Hello smile

I was just wondering - it's not a request, just a query - that if we get an exceptionally good question in a quiz on the daily Duel, whether some day when you're not busy (Oh ho ho ho), if there was some way to send a compliment to the author of that question?

I've just played one about a remarkable Japanese man, a diplomat in Europe, who issued visas to over 6,000 Jewish people fleeing persecution during WWII. He couldn't get his staff to do them so "wrote them all out feverishly by hand" himself, working up to 20 hours a day to so before the consulate was closed. "He was still writing visas while in transit from his hotel and after boarding the train at the Kaunas Railway Station, throwing visas into the crowd of desperate refugees out of the train's window even as the train pulled out. In final desperation, blank sheets of paper with only the consulate seal and his signature (that could be later written over into a visa) were hurriedly prepared and flung out from the train" to the desperate refugees".

It was a remarkable thing to do - and an excellent question.

His name was Chiune Sugihara and he said after the war that he had to after seeing "... refugees face to face, begging with tears in their eyes...among the refugees were the elderly and women. They were so desperate that they went so far as to kiss my shoes, Yes, I actually witnessed such scenes with my own eyes...I knew that somebody would surely complain about me in the future. But...this (was) the right thing to do"

One easy option, perhaps, would be to take the whole quiz later then to rate it and send a compliment.

Well...that wouldn't quite work for questions submitted as single questions, which I think this one is since it looks a little familiar...

Yes, it doesn't say who wrote it. Single question ie.

I'm pretty sure that the author's name is given at the end of the interesting info for all Duel questions, whether they come from a quiz or the single question pool. I've just played a couple of top level Duel categories (People and World), and while no quiz title appears (indicating single questions), the author's name is given in each case at the end of the info.

The author's name shows at the end of the Interesting Information for each *individual* question. It does not show after you've taken the entire Duel, when you click to see all the answers. It would be nice to be able to see who wrote the individual questions after taking all 10 questions. To stop in the middle, and write down a person's name, really stops the flow while taking a timed quiz.

You don't lose any time though, as the timer doesn't start until you hit Next and the next question appears. I found that out when my phone rang in the middle of a duel, and though I feared I'd lose the whole thing, only one question 'timed out' and I was able to continue playing the rest.

You don't lose any time, but you lose momentum. I'm just not inclined to grab a pen and a piece of paper in the middle of a quiz. The quiz bot mixed quizzes do show the authors of the individual questions at the end, so it seems to be possible.

There's nothing on the individual questions when playing a quiz in the Duel to indicate authorship - and there's nothing on the "Display Entire Quiz" page either.

There is on the answer page after each individual question, at the bottom inside brackets

There is a link to send a correction if you click Display entire quiz after you have finished your duel, but not to send a compliment. There is no indication at that point of where the question came from.

During play you can see the name of the question/quiz author, but not the quiz. (I just checked with a duel that had at least one question I know came from a quiz, and there is no information displayed about that.) If you want to send a compliment, you need to stop long enough to write down (or copy/paste) the author's name. Then at some point you need to try and explain which question it is that you are talking about, and all you really know is the category, not whether it was from a quiz or submitted as a single question.

I know that I might send compliments on questions if it were more straightforward, such as adding a link for Send a Compliment at the end, as well as I see an error - submit correction. Just as the error message is directed in the appropriate direction (to the author if the question came from a quiz, to the single-question editing area if it is a single question), this link could go straight to the author. If the question is from a quiz, the name of the quiz and its question number could be shown there as is done for corrections. If it's a single question, I'm not sure how the author could be informed about which question it was, though. That issue may be why it hasn't been implemented.

I checked this, and if the question is from a quiz, when you click on "send a correction" the Write a Note screen that pops up is of the type from which you can change "correction" to "compliment" and the note will go to the author.

The screen shows this:

Quote:

Message Type:

Submit a Correction
Send a Compliment
Direct Message or Followup

The name of the quiz is also shown when the question is given, above the question itself, but not with the info.

If the question is a single question only the top level subject shows above the question, and when send a correction is chosen this appears:

Quote:
Enter your correction and click submit. You will remain on this page.

Typo/spelling/grammar Disputing Answer

Clicking submit will NOT take you to a new page:

This note will NOT go to the author, but editors will see it.

To see that flexible pop-up message screen, you have to "send the correction" in the middle of play, which means the kind of interruption of rhythm to which postie was objecting. It is also not intuitive, so it had never occurred to me to use that mechanism.

If you wait until the end display, you only see the second type of message, even for questions that did come from a quiz.

I guess I'm not so bothered by the interruption of flow as others are. I stop to read the info sections in any case, most of the time, as I know it won't hurt my score to do so.

I'll come at this from a different direction, the view of the question writer. I was likely the author of the question Creedy originally posted about.

I think I have only once gotten a compliment on a single question, and in that scenario, the player had just played the New Question Game. The player then got to the answers screen, saw I had written the question, went to his mailbox, and then manually typed my name in to send me a compliment about the question.

It was much appreciated to get that encouragement for a single question! I think it would be a lovely idea to be able to easily send a compliment on a single question.
