Tipping Comp



The NBA season is under a month away. Come one, come all and tip your way through the NBA!

Rules:
  1. One point for a correct tip.
  2. Deadlines will be Friday midnight FT with a two hour grace period thereafter. The tipping comp organizer will determine if a post is late.
  3. Default is equal to the higher of six or Wooden Spoon score.
  4. Tips not in by the first game's tipoff (noted in US Eastern time) will receive default score.
  5. We will tip the opening day games, then 15 games each weekend (all Saturday and enough Sunday/Monday to equal 15).
  6. As per the last several years, the midpoints around the All-Star weekend will not be tipped.


Bonus points:
  1. One point for picking a result solo, or one of two, provided 12 tippers apply.
  2. One point for picking 13 or more of 15. There were enough weeks last year that earned a near miss bonus, and this year's comp will determine next year's eligibility.
  3. Tippers will be ineligible for bonus points if they tip all homes or all bar one.

Welcome to the 2017-18 NBA comp! What hangs in the balance for the Cavs? Will it be Cavs/Warriors IV in June? My senses say "yes"...ugh. Trash talking LeBum is all but required...as this tipper is not a "king James" fan. All he can do is flop...but he is so sneaky that the NBA doesn't fine him for it. mad

No new tippers this year, but Sypher is on here as he tipped in week 2.

In Oakland, the shock of the week happened...Durant's jumper didn't count, and Houston escaped with the win. No one picked this result.

Three players thought that eight Cavaliers could beat five Celtics on the floor? Oh wait, that's five Cavaliers and three officials against five Celtics...we mustn't touch king James or get assessed with a flagrant-2 and ejected from the game...ugh. mad

Four players start atop the standings...will one of them hold it all season? We shall see in the coming weeks. They were not the only bonus points, as George95 and N-Bomb both picked Orlando to win at home.

Two players (myself included) start at the bottom...I'm getting out of the cellar.

Two games were picked by no one, and the Warriors start out 1-2 on the season...Oklahoma City isn't faring much better, as we missed their loss to the Timberwolves.

Maybe we all ought to tip against king James a bit more...dg_dave did and picked up one of the three total bonus points (wwe84 and N-Bomb both picked Brooklyn).

On the flipside, three games were tipped by all or all bar one (Toronto over Philly - missed by ozzz2002, Houston over Dallas - missed by LeoDaVinci, and Los Angeles Clippers over Phoenix).

We went feast or famine on four games this week and missed on three: Detroit over the Clippers, and the two big shockers: both of last years' Finals participants losses. We went 3/30 for Cleveland, as three (gtho4, wwe84, and ElfTwinkle) all picked the Pelicans to win.

The bonus points went to the two that picked San Antonio to lose in Indianapolis...ozzz2002 and LeoDaVinci.

We dropped below 50% accuracy this week...can we get back above? Had the three we all missed been made, we would have been at 69.05% (a 20 %age point increase).

We have been a bouncy bunch the last four weeks...from 54 to 77 to 56 to 62.

Last week, the first person (outside the bottom three) picked up a Spoon...but it came back to the bottom of the table, giving LeoDaVinci his fifth in seven weeks. Nine of the ten Spoons going out are to the bottom three, and half of those are Leo's.

Toocool4u picked up his first bonus point this week, finishing off that column.

Five players miss double digits and take a Spoon in their efforts, and N-Bomb missed only the Nets losing at home.

Outside of a few red herrings, most games went as planned and we hit on 7 of 10 on average...as three games were picked by everyone, three more by all but one, and three further by all but two. That in itself will cause a high Spoon score!

As if N-Bomb needed any more bonus points or weekly wins...lol. He has taken an 11 point lead just 11 weeks in. On the flipside, ozzz2002 needed his weekly win to play catch up...which is what I've done in this comp getting results up.

We've been fairly consistent the last four weeks, staying between 65% and 70.5%...but we all missed the Warriors loss to the Nuggets...at home.

Four players hit paydirt with their "obscure" tips...however, mine for the Jazz wasn't, because I almost always tip against Cleveland because I want LeBum to lose.

A far fall from last week's nearly 84% to just under 57%.

As ozzz2002 said in his last post, he gets ten (which probably is one of his best weeks in this comp) and gets a Spoon, yet some weeks, ten is either the winning score or above the winning score (see Week 3 and Week 12).

As if N-Bomb needed another weekly win...combined with illiniman14's late tips, N-Bomb stands a full week clear of the pile below. With only eight weeks left, there is still a chance someone can catch him, but the task is tall.
