Is this page a slight sneak peak of what the home page will look like after the change over?

On another one of the changes:

The new pages seem to be squished inward -- the side margins are way wider than before.

I'm guessing that the new very wide margins are to accommodate hand-held devices? I've checked the settings on my profile regarding the wide/narrow appearance, but I'm not seeing that it changes anything.

I suppose that I'll get used to it in time, but just wondering if there's some setting somewhere that I should be adjusting?

Verbonica, I asked the same question a few weeks ago. Terry responded, but I was unable to make the margins 'appear' skinnier, unless I made the screen size skinnier... so it wasn't 'really' any better, and it affected the screen size of every other site I visited. I guess we just have to learn to live with it.

I get the same effect on two laptops and a desktop... running Windows XP, and Windows 7

Yes, the margins are completely different. It is based on the Bootstrap framework, which consists of having fixed size displays for different device widths.

So, mobile has a fixed size. Ipad has a fixed size. Then there are 3 fixed sizes for larger PC displays.

This is all part of the new responsive design paradigm, where one set of code and one single design works on all devices.

Try this (it's pretty cool):

Go to the following and make your screen as wide as possible:

http://www.funtrivia.com/quizzes/index.cfm

Then slowly make your screen narrower and narrower. You will see the display snap to different sizes as you shrink down and change certain elements to display them better on the smaller screen.

The huge advantage of this fixed-size-display stuff is that it is 100% predictable. Elements can be displayed at each cut-off with precision and you will never get weird or unexpected wrapping.

So yes, the margins are definitely bigger (at certain screen sizes -- smaller at others). That is by design.

Ok didnt get on as much as I'd hoped this weekend. I was hoping to have a big liet but it looks like I am just going to haveto piecemeal it as I can.

Here are two screens where old browsers ar still having the content pushed into the margins issue

http://www.funtrivia.com/quizzes/index.cfm
Just the icons for the quiz categories are pushed to the right.

http://www.funtrivia.com/html5/specificprocess.cfm
any results page for duel (with show recent results expanded out) or topic mashes only show the first 25 results in the box where the should be. From #26 up they are pushed into the margin

Oh also Team vs. Team does it as well on the entry screen. Where team scores shouod be displayed the bix is blank and all are pushed into the right margin

TvT is not doing it currently but it just may not have hit the threshold of teams listed that overflows that table.

I've noticed in Match quizzes the font has changed. I'm no expert but I believe the font is now some sort of serif (?), a bit smaller and lighter, which I think makes the choices more difficult to read.

Is this one of the changes or is it something on my computer?

Lately I have had terrible issues with FT seemingly related to site design changes.
Pages are sticking or freezing almost anytime I try to access a quiz or to submit answers, which requires refreshing, using back button, or even closing the browser and logging back in.
For example, this is the third time I have tried to submit this reply.
I can get over not being able to do crosswords, but the site navigation is getting so frustrating that I fear having to break off my daily trivia addiction.
Is anyone else have similar browsing/submitting issues?
Thank you!

answerman, can you please provide a screenshot of what it looks like on your system? The Heroes page looks absolutely right for me at various widths; same goes for the quizzes index.

When the Home Page changes, and "Me" disappears, where will it be possible to find "My quizzes - recent scores"? I can't seem to find it on the new pages.

The homepage will be much simplified and decluttered. I'm still working on the details and will ask for feedback as we go.

But the general idea is that it will have big prominent links to the major sections of the site at the very top:

- Quizzes
- Daily & Hourly Games
- Crosswords
- Challenges
- Ask FunTrivia
- etc.

All of the "games" will be removed from the homepage, which is why they will have their own page:

http://www.funtrivia.com/games/ pages

The rest of the homepage will be used to highlight new quizzes, quiz of the day, etc. I'd like to have a little condensed "buzz" at the bottom of the homepage perhaps.

I just added a link to it in Author's Central, where is really belongs in the first place:

Just took a Match quiz to check out the new font. On the results page I noticed this section:

But wait, there's more!
This quiz is part of the following Quiz Series / Lists

That's a good idea. Is that something new or is it one of those things that have been there for a while and I've just been overlooking it?

It's been there a month or two at least.

The reason I suggest this is that it is before the option to rate the quiz and I do not think that many players are not bothering to get that far.

Need to quit playing quizzes with my eyes closed then. grin

I play more of the hourly and daily games than stand alone quizzes, so it's possible that this is the first quiz I've played that is part of a series.

Terry, the places I don't have "part of this page is on the right side you can't see on your screen" is the homepage, the Global Challenge, and here. Any URL for the rest of the website will do. For the team games, all of the teams scores are on the right side.

Another recent problem is not having pages load completely. If it is to see what topics are in the Duels or my scores in the day's games reloading the page up to 3x doesn't matter. But when it is playing a timed game like the Daily Game, Knockout, Pot of Gold, World or either of the team games, it makes a bigger difference when I can only load up Q12 or 15. Since iPads make it impossible to see all the questions at once, I don't know all the questions haven't loaded until I'm at Q12-15, which is where the questions have been stopping during the past week. Reloading the page to get all the questions means a restart with blank questions. Yes, the questions are all the same but I keep losing time. If I've got to reload the questions a second time to see all of them, I usually abandon the game.

I think the Gold Members section of the new "Games" page might need rearranged. The top sections are balanced, but the Gold Members section has all the games and info on the left side and the right hand side is a big blank space.

Either Terry has already fixed that, DW, or there's a problem on your end because it looks fine on my computer.

I thought that might be the case when I posted. It's the only page that is doing that though and just in that one section. Tried the standard "refresh" remedy, but the Gold Member section is still showing with everything to the left. Like I said, the other sections are balanced left to right like they should be.

I should clarify, the display issue I'm having is on a desktop. When I view that page on my phone the games in all the sections show up as a single column.

Have you tried resizing your window? It may be that certain exact sizes cause issues - if you are getting an inconsistent arrangement, try adjusting your window width and see if a change (10 pixels one way or another should usually suffice) can help.

I always have it set on max, but I just tried messing around with it. When I make the window half screen size, all the games and info rearrange themselves into a single column just like the mobile version. Nothing I tried makes the Gold Member section display correctly. I'm wondering if this is just a desktop vs. mobile issue.

The top section has the Daily games on the left, Hourly games on the right. Middle section is Author Central and Author's Kitchen on the left, AiA and TRIC on the right. All as it should be. It's just the Gold Members section that has everything all on the left and blank space on the right.

This not a major issue for me. If it's something on my end, I'm not going to worry about it. The only reason I posted was to let Terry know in case the Gold Member section was not supposed to display that way.

It's not a desktop vs mobile issue - the screens look fine on my desktop at work and my laptop at home.
