Terry has said many times that he plans to revamp crosswords to run on something other than Flash. I don't think we need to worry about them disappearing.

It says it's "used for production of animations, rich Internet applications, desktop applications, mobile applications, mobile games and embedded web browser video players".

What are people using if they're not using this?

I haven't got a clue what I'm using, let alone anyone else. Adobe is updated periodically - I just click yes when it asks me to - so I presume it's that, but what are most other people using then if that has being pushed out for many years?

The above was in response to ShadowMyst2004 - but thanks anyway on the crossword info.

There was a thread devoted to the end of Flash not long ago where Terry explains what's happening:

Thank you so much, Samak.

I was actually wondering what will happen in the wider world though. I presume users will be contacted prior to 2020 about switching over to different programs and so on, and they're not supposed to grope about blindly in the dark when it's turned off.

I'll worry about that when it happens.

I hate computers - but I love them at the same time.

For the twin challenge, I usually try to play my duels to get to a multiple of 10 away from my target and then play things like Quick Quiz, Team Heroes, etc. to hit the match. If I get to close to continue playing duels then I'll switch to playing user created quizzes (often in the For Children category) and use Brian's method to hit either the exact amount or a multiple of 10 away (at least 30 so I can play Quick Quizzes).

That's the equivalent of playing two challenges in one.

Unless, of course, that's the actual challenge? Not playing scoring games to match a twin's score, but actually working out how to balance them?

If so, that was fine with the Instaquiz available - and fun - but when it goes, and we then have to estimate where a countdown arrow is going to stop, divide or multiply to reach required scores, keep a timer on hand, and turn somersaults (I'm joking Brm), that takes the challenge from something that can *definitely* be achieved to something that *possibly* can be achieved.

Obviously most of the quizzes on the site are based on the possibility of a perfect score, there's nothing definite about that. Unless they're a part of a challenge badge though that requires 100% results, you can enjoy a good score or shrug off a bad one. Doesn't matter one little bit, and there's always another game right around the corner.

It's just that the Twin challenge, in combination with the little Instaquiz, was pretty well a sure thing for a definite result and a satisfying green tick.

I'll miss that.

Actually andy's way is another valid approach without using either of "the easies*" (insta quiz or the mash method)

If you have a bit of time and a cooperating partner, you could agree to stagger play of regular hourly games such as the triathlon games...word wizard...fill me in and so forth. Without even trying for a specific time, or using a stopwatch, calculator slide rule, ouija board..etc., after a few rounds of playing one game at a time per person and comparing scores after each play, sooner or later just by chance you will stumble onto a score difference that is a multiple of ten and then it is all over (assuming you have reserved you quick quiz plays...team heroes...TvT brain twist..and other even scoring games. You could also use html mode quiz play to expand your options to multiples of 15 (obviously you'd ned to pick easy quizzes)

*I will amend that phrase to "the allegedly easies" in deference to those who are not on good terms with the mash method.

I apologize profusely for using the word "sabotage" or "sabotaging" -- I didn't mean anything quite so diabolical.

Just about the time I think I've seen it all, I now learn that someone potentially deliberately taunted Answerman and possibly others in a Twin Challenge! It boggles the mind, it truly does. (It also sounds like "sabotage," but maybe not. It definitely doesn't sound like fun.)

Just remember -- if you're ever matched with me, send me a note and I will quickly stop playing and let you do all the work! (Or, I'll work with you, whichever is preferable. I strive to please.)

I had the Twin Challenge today and decided to try the topic mash approach (I usually use instaquiz to tweak the 'ones position' of points). I found it MUCH more cumbersome to use the topic mash approach.

Different things work for different people. I truly hope a replacement/alternative for instaquiz is in the works.

Since this post I've had the Twin Challenge 4 times - including yesterday and today. If I were a paranoid person...lol Thankfully yesterday's twin nailed it while I slept, what a great thing to wake up to.

I used to think think the topic mash way was cumbersome too. I would flub it constantly. I would have to rely on luck or a wonderful Twin to complete the Twin challenge. But I've learned to ace the topic mash method. I've never been able to use InstaQuiz so I had no other choice.
