Apart from the letters still being rather thin it is a lot better now

I noticed too that when printing a puzzle to play offline the whole grid appears on one page, as do most or all of the clues.

It works perfectly for me on my iPad. I did a crossword in hard mode and it took me to the answer page immediately on completion. I was using Puffin as iPad couldn't have flash but this is much easier.
I like it. Thanks Terry.

For me, the background color (where the grid and clues are) is still too bright. Or maybe the problem is lack of contrast.

The background color for the title appears to be a very pale green. Can it be made a darker green? And then the background color for the grid could be the pale green.

My letters are still being cut off at the bottom. I'm using a PC with Windows 10 and Firefox.

Have you tried altering your brightness/contrast settings in Windows, Sandpiper? And perhaps changing your theme? The colour of the lettering in the crossword changes when you do that. Of course, it will affect everything else but it means we can all have the colours we prefer.

If I hold the shift key and use the arrow keys, the cursor moves up and down through the puzzle which is great but to actually show the clue for that word, I still have to mouse the cursor to that specific square on the puzzle. How difficult would it be to have your developer change it so that the clue is automatically shown at whatever word is highlighted? It's pretty commonplace in other puzzles I've played and for those of us who prefer to use the keyboard and not have to be interchanging keyboard and mouse, it would be a huge benefit. For those who don't want tabbing over, you wouldn't have to use it if you didn't want to.
Thanks Terry.

PS...tabbing at the end of the word now just deletes the last letter which doesn't really make sense.

I love it but I can’t figure out how to enter. I changed over to easy mode to see what I missed and all was correct. So how do I enter the finalized puzzle ?

It's supposed to automatically take you to a page that says "Congratulations! You finished the puzzle" as soon as all of the letters you've entered are correct.

It worked fine for me earlier on my desktop. When I just played from my phone a few minutes ago, it didn't take me to that page after I finished the puzzle.

I'd like to see a bolder font and, in Easy Mode, I'm having trouble with the red letters on an orange input square.

I agree. The red on orange is a difficult contrast. Perhaps a softer colour/shade would be easier to see the difference. I agree that a bolder font would be an improvement.

Also the size of the grids - in this new format all grids are the same size whether the crossword is small, medium or large. The print on the small puzzle when taking up the same room as the large one looks enormous. I think three sizes of grids would be better, as before.

It appears the only way to delete a letter is to use the backspace button which is a tad annoying. Shouldn't the delete button also be able to do this?

Is the scoring on the crosswords correct?

I thought that you got 100 points for a small crossword in hard mode and 50 points in easy mode. I just scored 100 points for a small crossword in easy.

Yes, this is one of Terry's test puzzles. However, when I completed it, I accessed this puzzle from the puzzle directory not from the link here in the Forums.

So. What is supposed to happen when a crossword puzzle is completed?

It takes you to the answer page the instant all letters are correct. At least it should!

What browser / version are you using?

Newer iPad: clues do not show up at all. Safari, version 9.3.4 (13G35)
Older iPad: clues appear, nothing after happens finishing crossword. Safari, version 5.1.1 (9B206)

I apologize for taking so long for replying. I wasn't online until now.

Ok, thanks. It appears the "puzzle not completing" is being reported by other people too on mobile, so definitely a problem there.

As far as nothing at all on a newer ipad, please try clearing the cache (settings / safari / delete temporary files / cache ) and giving it a go on another puzzle. It works perfectly on my iPad, which is about a year old.

I just played this puzzle

http://www.funtrivia.com/crossword/play.cfm?gid=5176

and had to finish in Easy mode, but I'm credited as playing in Difficult mode. I don't know what my numbers of easy and difficult puzzles played were before I played this one.

I just played a crossword and thought I had it right, but it did not submit so I turned the east mode on. It was all correct, but has not submitted.

This is the first time that this has happened to me. I am using a laptop, Windows 7 and Chrome.

^ With the old-style crosswords, sometimes if it didn't submit I clicked the cursor to random boxes and that seemed to prod it.

Thanks for replying, Flopsy, and Terry, please feel free to ignore my post #1184916. I was still looking at the test crossword puzzles, so that was the problem. (embarrassed)

I just now started playing A Christmas Carol Crossword, and everything looks beautiful and is easy on the eyes. The letters are NOT cut off at the bottom, so everything is fine at my end.

Thanks for the hard work!

Terry,
I've just played the Crossword of the Week and received this message:

Congratulations!

You have completed the crossword of the week.
You have earned 200 bonus points.
You have been scored for this puzzle in the past.

I believe the CotW awards 400 points in difficult mode regardless of whether it's been played before. I suspect something has gone amiss in the integration to the new system. Thanks!

Ok, a new version has been posted that hopefully addresses the problems encountered above.

Please give it a go.

Can those who had problems getting it to "submit" upon completion give it a go now. Make sure you clear your browser cache before playing so that it gets the new code.

Also please test "easy mode" to make sure it is now crediting easy mode properly.

Thanks

Still not working for me on my phone. Tried two different puzzles to be sure.

Can't tell you anything about Easy Mode points, since I never made it to the completion screen.

Forgot to add, I tried two different browsers and cleared the cache on both before I tried the puzzles.

It did work well when I was using my Ipad.

Today when I went to use it (my Ipad) the keyboard didn't appear. At the bottom of the crossword was QWERTY etc, but only the first line. You could only select letters in that line.

It happened on more than one crossword, and my keyboard appears in any other game.

Still doesn't work. Cleared cache. Reset iPad. Finished this crossword

Tapped all over grid. Put in last clue over again. Nothing happens except the finished puzzle sits there.

I just tried it in hard mode first. Wouldn't submit, so I switched to easy mode. I'd made an error. Once that was fixed it submitted automatically. But I played on a normal computer.
