I asked my daughter not to give me too much this year but what she did get for me was very welcome... a popcorn maker and a packet of popping corn.

So what did others get, nice or not so nice?

My pet cat thought it was fun to put a live mouse under the Christmas tree. This is not quite the present I'm fond of.

Well I would also pass on that, I used to have cats who did things like that.

Our first cat did something similar, JanIQ : came in the kitchen window with a tweeting robin just seconds after we had served the roast on the nearby dining table

The best part of this christmas was having all the family together, I've been missing my kids as all three of them flew the nest for their studies this year. Was nice to have a full house again

Besides chocolate, Santa brought me lots of useful stuff this year: a Google Home Mini....a watch....soap....a paper shredder....bed sheets....half a dozen calendars....coasters for the table....oh,and a new dinosaur. For my cat, he brought some food, colourful toy mice and a bright pink collar.

Lots of edible goodies (and yes, I'll be cutting down in 2018 ) and Harry Potter goodies from relations. The most important gift, of course, was spending time with all the immediate family

I got a cold snap temperature-wise that isn't going away anytime soon.

My fianceé and I drove down and spent the day with her sister and brother-in-law about three hours away. It was the first time since 2010 that the two of them spent Christmas Day together.

My little guy got me an 11 Funko pop, my older son got me an awesome heating pad for my migraines and my mum got me a three month subscription to movie pass, which means I can see any 2D movie I want once a day for three months.

But seriously the best part of Christmas this year was my kids put up the tree and decorated it themselves for the first time and this is the first year I've been happy with how it looked. Also, my older son got a job, so with his paycheck he got presents for people, he was most proud to help his best friend of 19 year get the PlayStation 4 that he's been saving for for the last two years.

Your son sounds like an excellent young man, well brought up.

I got a beautiful brown and orange tabby cat and everything needed to take care of her. Adopted her from a no-kill all-cat shelter near my parents’ house.

How lovely.

I wish, he's legally an adult. But, at least he will now be able to pay his own phone bill and for his part of the electric and internet. Woo!
