Tanzen, a very interesting collection. I’m surprised Betleguise didn’t include Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, given the reference (I preferred the original radio serial). Bertho, now I know for sure you’re as twisted as me. Mine, in no particular order:
1. River God – Wilbur Smith
2. The Power of One – Bryce Courtenay
3. Tandia – Bryce Courtenay
4. Lord of the Rings – JRR Tolkien.
5. Dune – Frank Herbert.
6. The Dune Prequels – Brian Herbert
7. Elephant Song - Wilbur Smith.
8. Anything by Isaac Asimov
9. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency – Douglas Adams
10. Most People I Know – Billy Thorpe.

My all-time favourite has to be "To Kill a Mockingbird". It's my favourite book, my favourite movie and Gregory Peck is my favourite actor!

However, since lots of members have created a top ten list, I'll jump on the bandwagon with my top ten (after To Kill a Mockingbird, that is). No particular order.

1. Captain Corelli's Mandolin (Louis de Bernieres).
2. The Grapes of Wrath (John Steinbeck).
3. Mother Tongue (Bill Bryson).
4. Jessica (Bryce Courtney).
5. The Screwtape Letters (C. S. Lewis)
6. The Firebrand (Marion Zimmer Bradley).
7. Song of Troy (Colleen McCullough).
8. The Robe (Lloyd C. Douglas).
9. I Claudius and Claudius The God (Robert Graves).
10. All the Harry Potter books.

How about -
"The King Must Die" and "Bull from the Sea", by Mary Renault
"The Shipping News" by Annie Proulx
Robertson Davies' "Cornish" trilogy
Davies' "Deptford" trilogy, too. Oh, what the heck, how about everything he's ever written?
"The Power and the Glory" by Graham Greene
"Possession" by AS Byatt
"A Summer Bird-Cage", and "The Millstone", by Margaret Drabble
Oh, oh, this is getting out of hand - I'm cruising the bookshelves, thinking "Can''t forget this one...oh, what about this.... haven't even touched on non - fiction....." Time to stop. It seems that there are a lot of good books out there!

I can relate to that! I did the same thing when I was compiling my list and afterwards I realised how many I'd left out (like my Rumpole collection, for example).

One of the wonderful things about being a Literature editor is that sometimes I edit quizzes about books I haven't read and the quiz, if well written with interesting supplementary information, will inspire me to read the book. I bought "The DaVinci Code" today because I edited a quiz on it over the weekend and the quiz, along with the reviews on the Amazon website, aroused my interest.

What did you think of "The DaVinci Code"? I thought it was exciting and educational. Dan Brown's "Angels and Demonds" is another very informative thriller.

I just finished "The Da Vinci Code" the day before yesterday. I thought it was an excellent blend of fact and fiction. I won't discuss the plot because I don't want to spoil it for others but I will say that it involves a quest for the Holy Grail theme. It also contains lots of interesting trivia. For those who have read it, check out the two quizzes that we have on it in the Literature section.

I loved Billy Bunter when I was young boy,the fat owl of the remove getting in to all sorts of trouble usually over food.I also liked John Dickson Carr's stories especially the ones with locked rooms scenarios.Biggest problem is now I can't find these books anywhere ,they seem to be out of print

'The Lord of the Rigs' by J.R.R. Tolkien.
I enjoy these books everytime I read them. It is amazing the depth to which Tolkien wrote in, and his detail to each character. Whenever I re-read these books, there's always something new to discover, which makes it so interesting and wonderful to read.
