After the return, I enjoy writing Match Quizzes.

But there is a problem with the Match Quiz Preview. As the preview in normal format, it shows answers for preview as well but that's not a facility for match quiz preview. It is creating problem in checking the typo mistakes and other things. It is easy to pick a mistake in preview than in a quiz. Moreover it is bit difficult to check for mistakes while writing on phone.

Terry, I have request to you to add answers preview as well for match quizzes. It will certainly help when you are writing on phone! Please!

Regards
Elai

Oh.. I certainly missed it but, looks like Terry has forgotten about it as he is busy with the new upgrades on badges. I had written 6 match quizzes, I was facing a lot of problems, so I pointed about it today. Sorry, I was not aware that Terry has already been notified about it!

It's all good. A reminder is probably overdue.

And at the risk of giving some unsolicited advice, unless you really can't avoid it, writing quizzes on your phone is not the best idea... It is really hard to notice errors and typos and you can't get a feel for the quiz as a whole, even if it is a "normal" one.

Paper and pen?

Since more people have started writing on their phones, I'm seeing a lot more silly errors than ever before. So, especially for those who have problems with English grammar, I would strongly recommend writing the quiz first in some format that makes it easier to spot problems, and then copying it onto your phone. Slowing down helps, too.

In normal quiz preview it is very easy to spot mistakes as the preview have quite enlarged/magnified letters.

For checking mistakes in Match quiz, since there is no preview for solution. I use the option DESKTOP SITE using CHROME, so that I can catch up mistakes a bit easy manner. But it would help a lot if quiz preview for solutions for match quiz also be there.

I think it's unavoidable with the direction of technology that we're going to get more and more authors writing on mobile devices, but those authors will need to understand that we are not expecting to bend our standards to accommodate. We will still need to expect proper spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation.

Writing on a mobile device is at the author's discretion, and if that means a tougher time in the queue, then that's the way it is.

Amazingly, physics and chemistry problems were solved for many, many years using the paper and pen or pencil method. Shockingly, when the astronauts had to figure out logarithms on how to get home aboard a crippled capsule, they had to use the pen and paper method. Then didn't even have the advantage of gravity to keep the paper in one place while they wrote.

The more you use the old fashioned method of a paper and pen or pencil, the faster and neater it will become. You also won't have to worry if your battery is charged. You can also use it any where, any time, at a very cheap cost. There is something very freeing about not relying on technology to write or to read a book.

Isaac Asimov wrote a lovely short story about someone in the future who had discovered that you could do division, take square roots, find logarithms, etc. by hand nd didn't need to rely on the computers - everyone was amazed!

NASA spent millions to invent a pen that can be used in space without any problem.

Amazing but Soviet Cosmonauts use PENCIL. Bit cleaver!

NASA didn't want bits of graphite floating around the space capsule getting into the machinery. It also didn't want to have to deal with the shavings that happen when a pencil gets sharpened. And when the earser is used? Think of all those little pieces of pink yuck added to the mix floating around and clogging up the instruments.

Now that I've read the story ....

It's obvious you did not. Another problem with the plain old pencil is that it was flammable. Since we had already lost astronauts to a fire, have a flammable object in an orbiting space craft needed to be avoided. As to the "millions" NASA spent ... You should have read the story.

Yup-- Russians using pencil is a bit of a myth. Even if they did, it was at pretty significant risk and wasn't really clever.

At one time, way back, I used to write out quizzes longhand, at least in the brainstorming stage, and it went a long way because it allowed for another stage of self-editing in transcription.

I don't edit on mobile or tend to anything in the Lounge on mobile out of concern for the issues I can cause by accident. I do, however, use the notes app on my iPhone to create notes for quizzes, especially on quizzes about books, that I flesh out in the template later on.

All my quizzes are planned on paper initially. I jot down ideas for questions on the topic and scraps of information which I may be able to use. Other authors do something similar in Word documents. I only fill in the quiz template when I have a clear idea of which question is going where.

Back on topic, having the preview mode for Match quizzes would be much appreciated.

I read it, but did not posted all, perhaps they could have worked on a better pencil. Who knows? Technology keep improving and get costlier!

We got out of the topic while discussion. Waiting for the new preview for match quiz, it would be very helpful.

I understand that it is difficult for some to gain access to a desktop or laptop, but as others have said, writing longhand is a good option, especially for those for whom English is not their native tongue.

Also, writing messages in all CAPS is considered screaming or yelling in some circles, and should be avoided if possible.

And lest I come off as not caring about the Match Quiz preview, I do agree that it would be a wonderful addition once it can be added.

Sue

Hmm there is a link "Quiz Preview: See how quiz question and answer screens will look" that appears when you save a quiz. Works for me for match quizzes.

Have you tried that?

The problem is that you can't see the information section in preview mode for match quizzes, Terry, and that's where typos and other errors tend to be. In the other formats, the info is available as well in preview mode, so that's what we're asking for.

Yup that's what we need as said by rossian. In other formats question may have errors as they are sentences while in match quizzes that does not seeem to be a problem. Mistakes in match quizzes are basically in info section, and preview for them will help to catch those mistakes, that would certainly help quiz writers and editors too as they would find less mistakes in quiz they are checking!

Elai, you can try writing your quizzes here in the Forums using the Messages system. If you're not sure of what I mean, I'll explain.

1. Look at the top of screen here in the Forums.

2. Look for My Stuff. The line you are looking for is shown below.

Forum List    My Stuff     User List     Active Topics    Search     FAQ     Who?

3. There is an arrow on the My Stuff link. Tap on My Stuff.

4. From the drop down menu, choose Messages.

5. On my iPad, New private message appears on the left. I don't where it will be on a phone screen. Tap on New private message.

6. You will see a message screen. For Add Recipient, put in your username. Yes, we can send messages to ourselves.

7. You must fill out a Subject.

8. The Message will be where you can write your quizzes, info sections and all.

9. Like these posts, there is an edit function for private messages. However, I do not know if there is a time after which you can no longer edit one of your messages. You would be able to copy/paste any info sections that do need editing into a new message.

10. When you have all your questions and information written and edited, you can copy it to the quiz template.

Just edited a message there that is almost two years old as a test (no I am not a pack rat...why do you ask? wink ). It changed it no problem.

However I have to say there would definitely be value to getting this fixed in the quiz editor feature.

I dont know why this is, probably sometjing psychological but I can pour over a quiz to proofread until I go cross-eyed in the entry format screen...but I will always spot somethng else to fix when using the "as it will appear" screen, even though it is all the same information. Often I will find several little issues I overlooked during even numerous passes of preliminary editing elsewhere.

The last time I did a match quiz I think the editor was about ready to strangle me for all the missed corrections. It was demoralizing too since I had spent a decent bit od time proofing. Pride foces me to insist I would have caught many of the mistakes if the II blurbs appeared in the "as the player will see it" screen like they do with a regular quiz.
