. We have a runaway. Sypher is this round's winner with 5/8 and has jumped into the lead (which is where he was way back in Round 1), with a 3 point margin back to the rest of us. Behind him the logjam continues; the next 11 players are covered by a 3 point spread.
Fifiona81 and gtho4 were the other winners. Howie72 and toocool4u collected a wooden spoon each with 1/8.

Brazil are out. They join Argentina, Spain and Germany on the early flights home. Four of the top five favourites to win the World Cup have failed to reach the semi-finals and, with the departure of Brazil, 9 of us (out of 17) have lost our advance pick for the winner! The four semi-finalist are:

England are playing in their third-ever semi-final (previous were 1966 and 1990), Belgium their second (1986), Croatia their second (1998) and France their 6th (1958, 1982, 1986, 1998 and 2006).
Only 8 of us have a live pick for the winner. Sypher will win this if England win their second ever World Cup (1966). He's the only one with England as his or her advance pick for the winner. On the other hand, if France win the final, we'll probably have a three-way photo-finish between Sypher/PaulE/N-Bomb.
The other solo pick for the winner is toocool4u with Croatia. He will fly up the table if Croatia win this .. and it may be enough to make it another photo for first .. and if Belgium win this it'll probably be a two-way photo between Sypher and ozz2002.
But all of this is mere speculation, as we have the semi-final round to be played mid-week plus four advance picks for the semi-finalists x4: FIFA World Cup [ 9 ] Tue 10th July.

. It's all over. France are world champions for the second time.
PaulE saved his best for last, ending the comp with a perfect 8/8 to win gold. N-Bomb & Sypher dead-heated for second place, with
N-Bomb winning silver on a countback +2 vs. +1 HoF vs. WS.
We didn't require the tie-breaker. For the record, France scored 1st in the 18th minute .. LeoDaVinci was closest (he picked the 14th) followed by Howie72 (24th) and PaulE (25th).
Only three players picked France as the winner with their advance pick: Lpez, N-Bomb and PaulE.
Everybody had a win during the comp except for FussBudget and Dizart. We had 7 of 18 runners occupy first place at some time during the ten rounds.
There were two wooden spoons in the final round: dg_dave and gtho4 finished with humungous picks of 0/8. Three players went through the compo spoonless: Sypher, N-Bomb and paper_aero.

The 21st FIFA World Cup final saw France collect their 2nd title. Didier Deschamps, their manager, became the third person to win the World Cup as a player and then as a manger (head coach). The first was Mario Zagallo (Brazil, 1958/1962 and 1970)) and Franz Beckenbauer (Germany, 1974 and 1990) was the second to achieve this feat.

The defending titleholder was illiniman14 (Dizart won silver medal at Brazil 2014 and Sypher won bronze).
That's it for another four years, until Qatar 2022. Congratulations to the three medallists and commiserations to the rest of us! France will defend their title at the next World Cup, which has been moved from June/July to November/December to avoid the stifling summer heat.
