Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai with Forrest Whittaker (I have a short << ooh watch out for the shameless plug!!>> reviewlette on my website for those who are interested). Ace film, very cool and paced and so worth a watch, if only for Mr Whittaker's splendid turn as a hit man who seeks to do his job in accordance with the Samurai code.

A couple movies I like that folks aren't too familar with include the movie pi (the number, not the pie you eat) about a mathmaticican who who slowly goes insane after finding an algorithm to predict the Stock market and uncovers the secret code of the Bible. It's an independant film and won at Caanes a few years back I think.
Another cool one is Reservoir Dogs written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. He made it prior to Pulp Fiction, and it has a similar feel, but I like this one a lot more. It's funny, gory, and violent. It's about a jewelry store heist that goes very wrong and how a bunch of mobsters deal with it.
Just my two cents.

Ever After was good.. I liked Anjelica Huston in it! I'd also like to add "The Paper" - although there *is* a little too much swearing, it's a funny movie. Also, "Tea With Mussolini" and "Chocolat" are GREAT 'chick flicks.'

There was this Swedish film about teenagers growing up and discovering their sexuality, which was only shown on one cinema in Ireland. It could have been crude, but it was very moving. It was called Show me Love. The Swedish singer Robin had a hit with the title track.

"Gattaca" with Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, and Jude Law was a great movie about life in the not too distant future, and how genetic profiling and engineering will most likely affect us. This movie is also a bit of a tearjerker.
"Red Sonja", one of Arnold Schwartzenegger's early movies, co-starred Brigitte Neilsen in what I believe is her first feature film. This movie is as good as, if not better than, any of Arnold's Conan movies. The costumes and the settings are very similar, and Brigitte Neilsen's acting is astonishingly good!

I agree with ette. The Professional was a very good movie that alot of so called movie buffs have never seen. Not only was the acting very good, but it also had its comical moments "Okay" Another one that alot of people never saw was The Usual Suspects. I thought this was an excellent movie. It was the first movie I ever seen with Kevin Spacey starring in it and I haven't missed one since. Plus it has a great twist at the end which is always a plus in my book! Cheers to all!!!!

Another good movie was "The Ref" with Dennis Leary and Kevin Spacey. Not the best movie just very entertaining. "The Adventures of Pricillia Queen of the Desert" is also very entertaining. Guy Pearce is excellent in the film. ciao ette

I just remembered another movie for this list - "Orlando" , starring Tilda Swinton, based on the Virginia Woolf novel. It's a great surreal story about a person born in the 1700's as a man, who lives 300 years, transforming into a woman in the process.

Clerks, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Kevin Smith is an awsome movie maker.

Are "The Professional" and "Leon" (which is the name I know it by) the same movie? If they are I must say I absolutely loved the film!

LadyHawke was a wonderful movie that came out as a big hit and faded back into oblivion. Although I believe it was made before I was born... (don't hold me to that,) it is one of my favorites, starring Matthew Broderick, Michelle Pfieffer and Rutger Hauer. I think that it deserves more credit this day in age.
NOTE: The movie LadyHawke was indeed made before I was born, released in 1985 whereas I was born in 1987.
