- It was a fairy tale ending for Angelique Kerber, who won her first Wimbledon title and avenged her loss in the 2016 finals. It was not to be a fairy tale ending however for one of the most valiant comebacks in women's sport. Serena Williams playing only her 4th tournament since returning from childbirth, and ranked at 153 (but seeded 25) pushed all the way to the finals but she came unstuck there. Grand Slam title #24 will probably still come....
- For the first time in the history of Open era (over 50 years), NONE of the top 10 seeds made it to the quarterfinals in one of the most unpredictable tournaments ever. Daria Kasatkina however shows promise, making it to her second Grand Slam quarterfinal in a row, after her last 8 at Roland Garros. Jelena Ostapenko made it to the semis this year after a quarterfinals last year. Julia Georges made the most of her vanquished quarter, riding all the way to the semis, the first time she's gone past round 4 in any slam.
- N-Bomb was the ONLY one of us here to have faith in Kerber making it the finals alongside Serena Williams, and he is rewarded for that with a title win, edging defending champion Howie72 to the second place. toocool4u takes home the bronze. N-Bomb is now 2/3 in 2018 in the women's section, after winning the Australian Open in January. He could have been 3/3, but Fifiona81 stopped him at Roland Garros, pipping him to silver!
- Tie-break was required to separate places 4 to 7, with 4 people finishing at the same score. gtho4 takes the spoon.
- Congrats then to N-Bomb, Howie72, and toocool4u and let's see what surprises are in store in the Men's section next

- Life has a strange way of coming back to bite us when we least expect it
We were all so very enamoured by the name "Roger Federer" (heck, the whole world was!), that other than Dizart (Cilic) and wwe84 (Raonic), the rest of us refused to look at any other possibility for the Wimbledon title this year. Federer probably thought it was another routine win too, when he was 2 sets to love up and 5-2 and on match point in his quarterfinals. 999 times out of a 1000, he would probably have won too. But this somehow happened to be that 1000th time and Kevin Anderson on the other side of the net refused to believe he was beaten. He staged one of the most remarkable comebacks in sports to stun one the "GOAT" claimants and the whole world, in a superb turnaround that will be talked about for years to come. - And as if that wasn't enough, Kevin Anderson went on to play the second longest match ever in Wimbledon's history, in the semifinals against John Isner. The final set alone lasted over 4 hours and in a match of gladiator proportions, Anderson won 26-24 in the final set. The efforts of the quarters and semis finally caught up with him the finals as he surrendered meekly in the first two sets to Novak Djokovic before a token fight in the third set.
- Heck, we haven't even spoken about the champion till now! Novak Djokovic is back as a champion, a good two years after he last won a slam. He had some fight on his hand too in the semifinals, beating Rafael Nadal in one of the finest matches played in recent times. A resurgent Djokovic is good for the men's game and his win breaks a 6 slam sequence of Federer and Nadal since January 2017.
- N-Bomb was the only one of us here to have Kevin Anderson in his line up (quarters), but that wasn't enough for the women's champion to pull through. LeoDaVinci put faith in his countryman Milos Raonic and that paid off for him. toocool4u had Isner in his line up and the one extra point was enough for him to pip N-Bomb to the silver. Most of us had predictable line-ups and it was again the one odd name here and there that made the difference. Congratulations then to LeoDavinci, toocool4u, and N-Bomb for finishing among the medals this year.
- The bold predictions of ozzz2002 did not come off, and he can spend the time in the cellar wondering what random names he can pick for the US Open when we all meet next in August
