I found myself unable to get back to sleep as it was so damn hot in the early hours of this morning. So, I jumped into the car and drove to Berry Head, a small promontory just to the east of the small fishing town of Brixham, in the hope of capturing a few images of the Milky Way and this is one of forty-eight long exposure images.

The small building in the foreground is the visible part of an underground complex, now disused, that was operated by the Royal Observer Corps from the period beginning in the inter-war years through until the ending of the Cold War.

This is actually a holiday camp west of Southampton. Don't ask me where the name came from, maybe the owner?

Who remembers these? They used to be on nearly every main road, now only a handful survive. I came across this one by chance in Hatch End.

Sandy Balls is an area near Godshill, in the New Forest. If you go to the western edge of Godshill, you can see some small round 'hills', or mounds, that were formed from sand and gravel left behind as the River Avon receded to a lower level. Those mounds are the Sandy Balls. They've been called that for centuries. The estate at Sandy Balls, now the holiday park, used to be the home of the Woodcraft movement, a sort of scouting without woggles, and it also used to let local schoolchildren go there in search of beasties and monster-eating plants! I encountered my first sundew near Godshill. smile

One of many 'pit lane' handovers between two of the teams participating in the Torbay Pedal Car Grand Prix which took place at Abbey Garden Meadows, Torquay last Sunday, the 15th July 2018.

This annual event, which celebrated it's 40th anniversary this year, is organised by the Rotary Club of Babbacombe and St Marychurch often draws huge crowds and raises much needed funds for local, national and international good causes.

Thanks Flopsy, if there's one thing you can rely on here is if you've got a mystery someone will solve it. I assumed it was a brand or even a family name.
