We had three winners this week: toocool4u, LeoDaVinci and Sypher. It's weekly win #8 for LeoDaVinci (who's three off the bottom), which is second-best for the season behind gtho4 with nine.

wwe84 collected this week's wooden spoon, his eleventh for the season. He's still the runaway leader in the wooden spoon stakes. He's now four clear of toocool4u and ozzz2002 who have seven apiece.

George95 again shaves the margin behind gtho4 (it's now down to 6 pts), and puts 5 pts between himself and the peloton (those seven are in turn covered by 5 pts).

Just the two bonus points this week: George95 for picking a draw QPR v Bolton (no-one picked relegation-threatened Bolton to win away) and dg_dave for having two draws in his 12 picks. There were no bonus points this week for solo picks.

Sheffield United (undefeated in ten) lost at home 2-3 to Bristol City (who were win-less in five). They went into that match on the back of a run of seven games without conceding a goal. This upset loss saw them slip out of the automatic promotion spot, replaced by Leeds United. Preston North End, who were undefeated in eleven, were beaten by relegation-threatened Reading. Middlesbrough lost their 4th straight match and slip out of a play-off spot.

Sypher scores back-to-back weekly wins (that's four wins in the last five weeks) and climbs up the table onto the podium. The last time he was there was back at the start of the season, in Week 3, when he was 2nd. From there he fell to 12th in week 18 and has been on a slow climb since. By Week 26 he'd climbed to 10th but was 17 pts behind the then-leader Dizart.

Five weeks ago he was 13 pts behind the leader. He's now a mere 6 pts behind and just 2 points behind George95 in 2nd; and a healthy 5 points in front of N-Bomb, the defending titleholder, in 4th place.

George95 continues to whittle away at the deficit behind gtho4. Three weeks ago the deficit was 9 points. It's now less than half that at a mere 4 pts.

Dizart is in 5th place, a point behind N-Bomb and Howie72 is a further point in arrears in 6th place (13 pts behind the leader). With just six rounds left, the winner should come from these six.

Sypher has won this twice (2009 and 2012), ditto N-Bomb (last year and the year before, 2018 and 2017) .. George95 and gtho4 have never won this. Dizart has one title (2013) and Howie72 has won twice (2010 and 2016).

The missing years from those ten seasons 2009 to last year are three: 2011, 2014 & 2015, which were all won by paper_aero (the only player to win this three times).

There were just the two bonus points awarded last week. This week saw 11 bonus points.

Will gtho4 continue to crumble, like Leeds United. All will be revealed in the run to the finish post, on Sunday 6th May (not Saturday). There are four games in the run home, between the top six:

R41 : Bristol City v West Bromwich Albion
R42 : Aston Villa v Bristol City
R45 : Leeds United v Aston Villa
R46 : Aston Villa v Norwich City

Birmingham City beat Leeds United to end their win-less streak of five straight losses. Leeds have now lost five of their last 13 games .. before that they'd lost five all season. On the other hand, Norwich City have lost just one of their last 13 games and, like Leeds, had lost five before that. PaulE received a bonus point for this game as he was the only one to pick a home win.

Ipswich beat Bolton, to end their win-less streak at 12 games. Sheffield Wednesday lost at home 1-3 to Aston Villa, which ended their undefeated run of 11 games. Villa have now won six straight. Norwich won again to make it eight straight.

We had three weekly winners and two wooden spoons .. gtho4 extends his lead out front to 8 pts and Sypher climbs up the ladder yet again, to join George95 in a tie for second place. The last time he was there was back at the start of the season in Week 3. From there he fell to 12th in week 18 and has been on a slow climb since. By Week 26 he'd climbed to 10th but was 17 pts behind the then-leader Dizart. Five weeks ago he was 13 pts behind the leader.

N-Bomb, the defending titleholder, is now a mere 2 pts off the podium in 4th place (down from 5 pts last week). Dizart retains 5th place, 3 pts in arrears, with Howie72 a further point in arrears in 6th place (14 points behind the leader). With just five rounds left in this marathon, the three podium-finishers should come from these six.

Norwich City came from behind to lead 2-1 with two goals in the last four minutes (0-1 30', 1-1 86', 2-1 88'), but their eight-game winning streak ended deep, deep into injury time when Reading salvaged a draw, with an equalizer in the 97th! Sheffield United were also held to a draw, which allowed Leeds United to jump back into 2nd place. Stoke lost at Swansea, which ended their nine-game undefeated run. Middlesbrough finally won a game, which ended their streak of five straight losses and win-less run at seven games. Villa have now won seven straight.

We had two weekly winners and two wooden spoons. Sypher scored his 5th win in 7 weeks to continue his rise up the table. He now occupies 2nd place solo, a mere 5 pts behind the leader. George95 has drifted back to 3rd place 4 pts in arrears, with N-Bomb just one point behind him. There are another 4 pts to the rest of the field.

With just four rounds left in this marathon, the three podium-finishers should come from these four.

Last week we had just two 2 bonus pts. This week it's four. No-one had the correct number of draws in their picks.

Leeds United retained 2nd place and, with Sheffield United again held to a draw, have put 3 points between themselves. Norwich City were also held to a draw, again, and their lead out front is now 4 pts (down from 7 points two weeks ago). Two wins from their last four matches will see Norwich promoted to the Premier League.

Leeds United now hold their destiny in their own hands: they have four cup finals .. aka four wins in their last four games will see them return to the Premier League, after 15 long years. The team were formed 100 years ago on 19th October 1919. In my completely unbiased opinion, a return upstairs is what Elland Road needs to celebrate its centenary.

Aston Villa are the form team in the run home to the finish post. They've now won 8 straight and will surely qualify for the play-offs, leaving one spot for either Bristol City, Middlesbrough or Derby County. The rest are just too far behind, with just four games left.

We had two weekly winners and three wooden spoons. ElfTwinkle scored her 2nd win in three weeks and wwe84 collected his 2nd spoon in three weeks. First to second has changed marginally from 5 pts to 6 pts and the gap between 2nd and third is unchanged at 5 pts. With just three rounds left in this marathon, the three podium-finishers should come from the first six.

The wheels may have fallen off the Leeds United train. They scored first and lost, for the first time this season. They were playing at home against a ten-man Wigan Athletic, who'd won just one game away all season, and lost. With that effort they, once gain, swap places with Sheffield United and drop out of the automatic promotion spot.

Whoever finishes third can kiss goodbye to promotion upstairs to the FAPL. The four-way play-offs between 3rd to 6th will be won by Aston Villa who, at the moment, are simply unstoppable. They've saved their best for the end of the season and are now undefeated in ten (and have won nine straight) .. and they play two of the first three in the run-home to the finish post. Sypher collected a spoon and gtho4 scored a win, which increased the gap between 1st and 2nd to 11 points. Dizart was the other winner and jumps up into 3rd place, 3 pts behind Sypher. A further 2 pts behind is a group of three separated by a mere point. With only two rounds left in this marathon, the three podium-finishers should come from these six.

Aston Villa's club record 10-game winning run in the Championship was ended by Leeds United in a controversial draw which saw Villa deliberately allowed to score. The game, which confirmed automatic promotion for Sheffield United, will be remembered for the 72nd-minute Mateusz Klich goal which sparked an already passionate encounter into a total loss of tempers at Elland Road.

Leeds initially opted to play on following a challenge by home defender Liam Cooper, which flattened Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia, before Tyler Roberts then appeared to be ready to sportingly put the ball out for a throw-in. But Roberts instead passed the ball forward to Klich and, with the Villa defence flat-footed, although offside, he was allowed to run on, cut inside and curl a low right-foot shot just inside the post. In the ensuing heated aftermath, Villa's Ahmed El Ghazi was wrongly red carded for an alleged elbow on Leeds striker Patrick Bamford, who was shown up by TV cameras to have simulated his fall to the turf.

But, in astonishing scenes, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa honourably ordered his players to allow Villa to equalise, and Albert Adomah was allowed to run through to score, almost unchallenged, into an unguarded net.

Having been held for the first time since the 1-1 draw at Stoke in February, although still unbeaten in 12 games, Villa's failure to win means that they now cannot catch fourth-placed West Bromwich Albion and look almost certain to finish fifth in the Championship. They could yet meet Leeds again in the play-offs, either in the semi-finals or the final. But it is more likely that they will play neighbours Albion, unless the Baggies win at Derby next Sunday and Leeds fail to win at relegated Ipswich.

... But it all kicked off when Leeds went ahead with Klich's goal, an episode that drew comparison with the famously replayed game that followed Nwanko Kanu's winner in similar circumstances in an FA Cup fifth-round tie for Arsenal against Sheffield United at Highbury in February 1999. This time, Klich's moment of thoughtlessness proved only a temporary glitch as, in the turmoil that followed, after a touchline exchange of words with Villa boss Dean Smith, Bielsa kept his cool and orchestrated Villa's equaliser. But not before Villa's Conor Hourihane and Bamford had both been booked, while the injured Kodjia followed El Ghazi down the tunnel to briefly leave Villa done to nine men. The incident was not quite over yet, either as Jansson, not quite in tune with his team-mates, even tried to prevent Adomah scoring.

The 46 lap marathon has ended. The podium was decided three wks ago (aka there was no change in the first three spots for the third straight week) .. gtho4 scores his first-ever gold medal, Sypher has won this twice (ten years ago in 2009 and again in 2012) and Dizart won this win 2013.

The defending titleholder was N-Bomb, who won this last year at the finish post when a two-horse race saw him run down ozzz2002 for a dead-heat, which N-Bomb won on a countback .. this year ozzz2002 finishes at the rear of the field and collects the end-of-season wooden spoon award. He didn't, however, collect the most weekly spoons. His nine were second place behind wwe84 with 13 weekly spoons.

wwe84 scored 37 bonus pts, which is remarkable as solo bonuses have been harder to come by for the last 2 seasons (previously one of two). He failed by one to get himself into The FLC Record Book.

Norwich City and Sheffield United were promoted to the FAPL
last week. The 3rd promotion spot will go to the winner of the
play-offs (3rd v 6th and 4th v 5th, over two legs, with final at Wembley on Mon 27th May).

Villa's loss at home ended their undefeated run at 12 games.

Ipswich Town, who were win-less in five and had lost their last three, beat Leeds United. They bid farewell to the FLC with just their 5th win of the season. Leeds finished the season win-less in four (of which they lost three). The table below shows the standings back in Week 23, the half-way mark.

That brings to a close this gut-wrenching 46-wk marathon, the longest tipping comp here at FT. Congratulations to the three
