Hello smilee

Would it be possible, after we have created a crossword, that we could play it before submitting it?

To make sure there any little errors haven't slipped in, ie?

My most recent crossword, published today, - Simply Movies 42, is missing an answer!

Whilst the clue for 26 down is correctly shown on my submitted grid as: "Joan Allen, Simon Abkarian and Samantha Bond starred in this 2004 film (3)" within the correct template, and with the correct answer, the on-line version does not provide the necessary square for row 14 column 7!

I have attempted to re-submit it but with no success!
Help!!

I've just had a go at fixing it as well, with no success. It looks fine in the editing screen but for some reason 26 down (row 13, column 7) just isn't showing up in the online version.

Yes Fi, it is row 13 (not 14) column 7, which I'm also unable to rectify!
I'll now be out for the next few hours and will have to leave it, hoping others may find a solution.

I've also had a go, but nothing I've thought of seems to work.

The crossword is playable without it, though, so I don't think we need take it offline, while we wait for Terry to solve this for us.

Thanks Liz, As you say the crossword is playable, but it's certainly puzzling!

There appears to be another problem, whilst at this time it shows 55 members having played the crossword, there are absolutely no scores shown on the relevant page. Surprisingly, I've not yet received any messages of complaint from these players.

To avoid any further confusion, I have completely removed the clue from the template as a temporary solution, until Terry is perhaps able to find a solution.

I wouldn't worry too much about the scores. Whenever I check these (infrequently), the number of 'plays' is always greater than the number of 'scores' shown.

I fully appreciate that, but my concern was directed towards the fact that it was impossible to complete the crossword in it's flawed form. At least by removing the clue in question from the template, completion is now possible, and already scores are beginning to appear!

The following changes have been added to FT Crossword Puzzles:

1. From now on, authors will receive 2000 points for each new crossword created. This is the same amount as awarded for quiz creation.

2. Authors will now receive notification in their inbox when a crossword is accepted.

3. Ingredient rewards have been added for crossword creation going forward, just like in quizzes.

4. Crossword preview now works: you can see how a puzzle looks as you are creating it and before you submit it.

[ Rewards will not be retroactive -- these are changes going forward ]

Long overdue and much appreciated I'm sure by our fantastic crossword authors. Now, while you're on a "crossword roll", if I could just bring up this little matter again....

Thanks Terry.

I definitely enjoyed getting points for my last couple of crossword puzzles and recipes/ingredients also. I look forward to seeing many new crosswords in the future. Perhaps we might even see in the future a mirroring of some other features associated with quizzes--crossword puzzle lists, a crossword puzzle amazing race, a crossword puzzle section to adventures in authoring, etc. One can only hope. smile

We're currently trying to work out what we can accomplish in the way of CW challenges. Currently, the stage games are not equipped to include CWs though we're discussing the possibilities. Monitoring and editing CWs isn't the same as quizzes, so a race is a bit ambitious for baby steps.

But rest assured we're talking about what we can do to expand the spotlight. I'm excited about it.

This is great and already there is an increase in puzzles submitted. Thanks you Terry, Kyle and whoever else was involved in the new rewards!

I've just accessed the page to edit my most recent draft crossword, and see the following message:

[renovate] Simply Movies! (43)

I can't recall ever seeing the instruction [renovate] previously, so is this something new, and what does it indicate please?

On the other hand it's possible that I've simply overlooked it in the past?

It's been on the listing of "works in progress" (quizzes and crosswords) since the last overhaul of that page, as far as I can remember. I don't think there is any deeper meaning than that it is "in progress".

I bought a daily challenge today that requires me to play Jeff's Number Crossword 1:

http://www.funtrivia.com/crossword/play.cfm?gid=2587

but the game is blacked out. I can see his other crosswords, just not this one.

Is there something wrong with this crossword? If so, can I have my daily challenge switched?
