The FIFA World Cup has been and gone and we now move to the FA Premier League tipping competition. This year's the 19th edition!
The defending titleholder is paper_aero, who last won in 2010-11. Silver went to N-Bomb, who's won three of the last five FAPL comps, and the bronze medal went to srini701.
The rules are as simple and are the same as last year. A correct pick gets you a point, and an incorrect pick does not. Failure to lodge picks results in a default, being the wooden spoon score for that week. There's a bonus point for tippers who get a solo weekly win.
After nine months across 38 rounds, we will crown a champion on Sunday 12th May 2019. Tiebreakers for medals are differential between weekly wins and wooden spoons, followed by weekly wins and then bonus points.
The season begins at the end of next week, on Saturday 11th August.

Welcome to the 19th edition of the FAPL competition here at Funtrivia  I will be your new host for the season, hoping to do half as good a job as gtho4...I am no football expert or fan, and this is my first stab at organizing football, so please do not expect insightful commentary, or game analysis, or statistics each week. If there's anything interesting or noteworthy, gtho4 will hopefully chime in and edit my write-ups to make them better
16 of us lined up at the starting block, 2 less than last year, with Fussbudget and illiniman14 absent. No newbies added. Hopefully we will add one or two more soon....
Defending champion paper_aero picked up from where he finished last year, extending his run on the leader board to 28 weeks now (see streak below). Joining him at the top at the beginning of the season are 5 others. Howie72 and ozzz2002 decided to start the long season by limbering up slowly.
Defending premier champions Manchester City also picked up from where they left off, winning comfortably at a new look Arsenal. Liverpool, who are expected to give the champions a run for their money this season, also started strong, as did other usual suspects Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho lost two of his opening three Premier League games for the first time in his career as Tottenham thumped Manchester United 3-0 on Monday. This is Man United's worst start to a league season since 1992-93. Oh Boy! there may well be more drama at Old Trafford this season as days go by. Manchester City faltered, drawing away against the Wolves, and that leaves us with 4 teams with a 100% win record after 3 games....Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, and.....Watford! Watford continued their stunning start to the season, shocking Tottenham at home this weekend, to maintain their 100% record...4 wins on the trot now....Liverpool and Chelsea are also at 100% wins after 4 rounds .... The 2 Manchester teams recorded wins over the weekend, as did Arsenal. Southampton and Wolves won too, as the roads teams did well this round...5 away teams won!
PaulE wins the first ever bonus point for the season in our comp, with a sole weekly win. ozzz2002 was the only one to pick Southampton to win, but as we don't have sole pick bonus points in this comp, we can only say "well done" to him
2 matches (Chelsea and Manchester City) were picked by all, 2 (draw at Everton and loss of Tottenham) were picked by none of us, 1 match (Arsenal) was missed by only wwe84, while another (Southamnpton) was picked by only ozzz2002....mixed and average round of 79/150.
wwe84 takes home a second successive spoon, with Howie72 joining him this round.

Liverpool continue their impressive start to the season...it's now 6/6 for them after they beat Southampton over the weekend. Chelsea has slipped, held to a draw by West Ham, who thus continue their recent good form (they beat Everton last week). Manchester City bounced back from the Champions League shock to thrash Cardiff and are now second on the table. Manchester United were not inspired by the return of Sir Alex Ferguson to the stadium, and were held to a draw by the Wolves. Burnley won for the first time this season, and we now have just 3 teams still looking for their first wins of the season (Newcastle, Cardiff, Huddersfield). Arsenal, Tottenham, Leicester City all had wins too this round.
2 matches were picked by everybody, another 2 had just 1 miss each, and a 5th match had 2 misses, accounting for 76 of the 88 points we won as a group this round. None of us saw the draw at Man United, while wwe84 stuck his neck out to pick the draw between Chelsea and West Ham! He doesn't get a sole pick bonus, but is nevertheless rewarded with a bonus point as the sole weekly winner....for the 3rd week in a row we have had only one person picking up a HoF! But for the 6th week in a row, our spoon score is 4/10, with George95 landing the dreaded 4 in his roll of dice, for his first spoon.

Liverpool did not lose, but their 100% win record came to a stop after they drew at Chelsea. Meanwhile, Arsenal continue to rise up the standings with a fifth successive win, while Manchester City are now back on top of the ladder. Things aren't going too well for their city rivals, Manchester United though, and this round it was the turn of West Ham to inflict more torture on Mourinho's beleaguered side.
PaulE almost picked the card, missing only the Man United upset, and with the resultant bonus point, flies to the top of our standings. he has opened up a 2 point lead over Dizart and ElfTwinkle. But for a 7th round in a row, we have a spoon score of 4/10, with Fifiona81 landing it this time. |

Liverpool and Manchester City played out a dull goalless draw, but there was finally some cheer for the Manchester United fans this weekend. Arsenal continued to win too, as did Chelsea. Tottenham has made it 3 in a row too and the Wolves are unbeaten in 5 games too. At the other end of the table, Cardiff, Huddersfield and Newcastle are still searching for their first wins of the season after 8 games.
We had a mixed round. Everybody picked Arsenal and Chelsea, Manchester United (toocool4u) and Tottenham (LeoDaVinci) had only one doubter each, while 3 other games had just 2 right picks each. wwe84 was smiling at the end of it all, as he snags a bonus point as a sole weekly winner...we have had a sole winner here for a 5th round in a row now.....and for the 8th consecutive round (aka EVERY round since the start of the season) our spoon score is 4/10...Howie72, Sypher and toocool4u fall for the dreaded 4 this round. Incidentally, 4 is considered an unlucky number for the Chinese.....just saying

Arsenal continue their silent win streak (10 on a row in all competitions now), Manchester City and Liverpool won in contrasting fashions to stay atop the ladder, while Mourinho was denied a much-needed win when Chelsea escaped with a goal and a draw in the 96th minute of the game.....Cardiff City won for the first time this season, leaving Huddersfield and Newcastle as the only winless teams in the league.
ozzz2002 was the only one who picked the draw between Manchester United and Chelsea. He doesn't get a sole pick bonus, but that pick ensured he stayed the sole winner for the week and gets a bonus point for that....6th round in a row we have had a sole weekly winner....meanwhile 4 continues to be the unlucky number for us as wwe84 and toocool4u take home spoons for the round with that dreaded score....4 has been our spoon score in 9/9 rounds to date!

The winning run of Arsenal came to an end after they were held to a draw by Crystal Palace, a result none of us saw coming here. Manchester City and Liverpool continue to win though, with the 26 points scored (w8 D2) in first 10 rounds being Liverpool's best start to a season since 2008-09. At the other end, Newcastle are still winless after grinding out a 0-0 draw against Southampton. Newcastle have failed to win any of their opening 10 matches of a season for just the second time - last doing so in the 1898-99 top-flight campaign, 120 years ago. And the past six sides who failed to win any of their first 10 Premier League games went on to be relegated - Norwich City in 2004-05, Watford in 2006-07, QPR in 2012-13, Reading in 2012-13, Burnley in 2014-15 and Sunderland in 2016-17 (stat courtesy: BBC).

Arsenal continued their unbeaten run after they drew at home with Liverpool. This dents the latter's title chances as the other big guns continued to pile on the goals and wins. Manchester City and Chelsea are both ahead of Liverpool now after thumping wins. There were wins for Manchester United and a very emotional win for Leicester City too, but the fans at Newcastle will be the most happy after their team finally got that monkey off their back, and moved past the relegation zone with their first win of the season.
We had our best round of the season with 108/160 correct picks (round 1 had 103). Three of us had a near perfect round, and all 3 are at the top of the ladder. Two of us took home spoons this week and yes, the spoon score for a 11th straight week was 4/10
