The biggest news of this week's FAPL matches is not the thrashing United received in the Manchester derby, but our wooden spoon score...after 11 rock steady rounds of 4/10 in a row, we all came crashing down to earth. 5 draws in 10 matches meant a bunch of us picked up our first spoons this week. Nobody saw Arsenal or Chelsea drawing their matches, and that took a big hit on our scores. Two other matches had just 2 picks each, as we crashed to our season lowest of just 61 right picks for the round (out of 160). Amidst all this, N-Bomb has serenely moved back to the top of the pile, with the lowest winner's score for the season...the icing on his cake being a sole winner's bonus point for getting 6/10 right!
Please see if 4/10 wooden spoon score for 11 rounds in a row can be mentioned somewhere in our records book.

Tottenham inflicted the first defeat of the season to Chelsea and leapfrogged them on the table. Liverpool and Manchester City won again, to remain the only unbeaten sides in the league after 13 games. Manchester United faltered again, much the disappointment of all of us here, while Fulham broke a winless streak with a home win.

Manchester City and Liverpool keep winning. They are still the only unbeaten sides after 14 rounds in the season. Liverpool extended their remarkable unbeaten run against Everton to 18 matches now in the PL, while Manchester City had a stroll in the park against Bournemouth. Tottenham are still the only team with 0 draws against their name after 14 rounds, after going down big time to Arsenal (5 of us still dared to pick a draw here). Seven home teams won this round, including a come from behind win for Cardiff over the Wolves, who now have a solitary draw in their last 5 matches against 4 losses. Manchester United has failed to win their last 3 matches too, held to a draw this time by Southampton.
Half of our field won either a HoF or a spoon. Howie72 won his first HoF to move past the cellar on differential. The new occupant toocool4u won their 5th spoon in just 14 rounds. ozzz2002 had back to back HoFs, while Fifiona81 takes home spoons in consecutive rounds. PaulE and George95 make it 2 spoons in last 3 rounds, hurting the former more as he slips further behind N-Bomb at the top.

Manchester City and Liverpool keep piling on the wins, but there was a mid-week shock for Chelsea, as the Wolves bounced back from a winless streak of 5 matches to shock the Blues at home. Manchester United failed to win again, drawing their match against Arsenal, but Tottenham bounced back from their weekend defeat to win at home. Bournemouth, West Ham and Brighton, all won too, as Bournemouth moved past Manchester United on the table.
We all missed 2 matches and Howie72 scored from the rest, to bag his second HoF in a row and rocket all the way up to....errrr, same spot...he's plugging away though...ozzz2002 forgot to lodge picks, our first default since week 4, and lost on his chance to add to his successive HoFs and he climbs a few rungs down the ladder as ElfTwinkle and paper_aero have good rounds. George95 slides down a few rungs with a second spoon in a row.

And then there was one....Manchester City LOST, leaving Liverpool the last unbeaten team in the Premier league this season. Chelsea pulled off the "upset" win over City at home and that allowed Liverpool to go top of the standings after thrashing Bournemouth on the road. Tottenham is yet to draw a match after 16 rounds, grinding out a road win at Leicester City. Some relief for the Reds fans as Manchester United finally won a premier league match, their first in over a month.
N-Bomb picked another HoF and is the first this season to the century mark. Our middle order all decided collectively to pick up spoons while our lower middle and the tail is fighting valiantly to catch up with them. George95 picked up his first HoF, leaving srini701 and toocool4u as the only ones still looking for their first wins. paper_aero and LeoDaVinci wre two of the 6 spooners this round, leaving gtho4 the lone warrior without a spoon after 16 rounds.

Liverpool continue to win, winning this time at home against Manchester United, but the biggest shock of the round must be Southampton's win at home over Arsenal...this was Arsenal's first loss since mid-August as they went 22 games in all comps without a loss! Southampton themselves broke a run of 10 matches without a win. The Wolves and Tottenham made it 3 wins in a row, while West Ham is on a 4-game winning streak.
Approaching the midway point of our season, N-Bomb is cruising along at the front, while the rest of us have neatly divided ourselves into groups...gtho4 wins his first bonus point for the season and is riding along with PaulE. Dizart has slipped a bit in recent times and is in the middle order pack with ElfTwinkle, paper_aero, ozzz2002 and LeoDaVinci. Another six of us are in the lower middle order, separated by a point, while toocool4u and Howie72 are bringing up the rear, struggling to play catch up.

LeoDaVinci was the happiest person in our comp this weekend. He had a song (or a prayer?  ) as he lodged his picks and the new Manchester United manager and his players answered his call in style. Manchester United put 5 past Cardiff to signal the end of the Mourinho era and will have a happy Christmas.
Sypher is another happy soul this weekend after Tottenham emerged from a "tricky" encounter by hammering 6 past a hapless Everton. Elsewhere, there were upsets of seismic proportions as both Chelsea and Manchester City lost, at home, to unheralded opponents. Liverpool will go into Christmas as the leaders...4 of the last 5 teams to take the lead into Christmas went on to win the title...the last team that failed to do so? Liverpool  There were goals galore this weekend as 7 road teams won...34 goals in 10 matches, despite a 0-0 draw at Newcastle.
srini701 helped plug one more hole in our column by bagging his first HoF, with 3 others. This leaves our spooner this week, toocool4ulooking for his first win.

Another routine win for Liverpool in this season's Premier League and they are now 6 points clear off their nearest rivals, after a 12th clean sheet in 19 games. The next 2 Liverpool matches will be interesting now. Meanwhile, defending champions Manchester City lost for the second time in five days. Just a few weeks ago City seemed unstoppable as they started their title defence with a 15-game unbeaten run. However, a 2-0 reverse at Chelsea has sparked a run of three defeats in 18 days as Crystal Palace and now Leicester both came from behind to hand Liverpool a huge advantage in the title race ahead of their trip to face City on January 3.
Meanwhile, Tottenham leapfrogged City into second after thrashing Bournemouth, while Manchester United’s perfect start under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continued with a win over Huddersfield. Tottenham have now scored 11 goals in their last 2 games!
toocool4 plugged the last spot in our winner's column in style, with a sole bonus win as well. There was a liberal dash of red to our table with 10 of us taking home spoons this round (which means gtho4's spoonless run has also ended). dg_dave missed the round but didn't lose too many points

The Liverpool juggernaut just keeps rolling on, and the poor victims this time was Arsenal, crushed 1-5, despite taking the lead. Liverpool are now 7 points ahead, after Tottenham were shocked by Wolves at home. Manchester City and Chelsea won, as did Manchester United, who continue their resurgence in the post-Mourinho era.
All of us got 3 right (Chelsea and the two Manchester teams) and those 3 unfortunately, were the only ones that ElfTwinkle and ozzz2002 picked, for the spoon score this round. None of us managed the Leicester or the Tottenham result and 5 of us took the winner's medal with 6/10. LeoDaVinci was on default this round.

Liverpool FINALLY LOST....after 20 rounds! Manchester City reignited their Premier League title challenge with a crucial 2-1 win over leaders Liverpool and moved the champions to within four points of Jurgen Klopp’s side. Elsewhere, Manchester United continued to win under their caretaker manager...their 4th win on the trot and they are 3 points behind Arsenal in 6th place. Chelsea were held to a goalless draw by 'lowly' Southampton, while Tottenham bounced back from their defeat last round, with a good win at Cardiff. At the other end, Huddersfield lost their 8th match in a row.
Howie72 made it 5 wins in the last 7 weeks to continue his slow and steady climb up our table here. After a spectacular start to us as a group this round (everybody picked 2 of the first 3 matches on the table), we tapered off brilliantly, with PaulE, Dizart and wwe84 taking spoons with a score of 3/10. Manchester United continued their revival under their new manager, much to the delight of our LeoDaVinci, who's now whistling and singing songs as he lodges his picks. The Reds got the better of Tottenham on road for their 6th win on the trot (5 in Premier league and 1 in the FA Cup).... They have caught up with Arsenal in 5th place after the Gunners lost away to West Ham. Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea all won too as the gap between the top 6 and the rest continues to widen.

It was a mixed round for the top 6. Manchester City and Chelsea slumped to shock defeats on the road, Liverpool and Manchester United were held to draws at home, while only Arsenal and Tottenham managed to win. Morale-boosting wins for Newcastle and Bournemouth, while the Wolves continue to blow hot and cold, this time, thrashing West Ham at home.
Dizart somehow missed picking the Arsenal game, but as it was a gimme, picked by everyone else, I let him have it. This meant he joined half the field in winning this round's honours, a poor 5/10. toocool4u and George95 take the spoons with just 2/10.

Liverpool faltered for a second match in a row, failing to beat West Ham on Monday. This allows Manchester City to cut the lead at the top to just 3 points after City won comfortably against Arsenal. Tottenham is also only 2 points behind City after they continued to win even without Harry Kane. Chelsea won too, but are now 7 points behind the Spurs in 4th place. Manchester United though is now only 2 points behind Chelsea and threaten to catch up for the final Champions League play-off spot before the season's over. Some interesting weeks ahead in the premier league.
PaulE takes sole honours for the round with a very good 8/10, the 3rd time he's doing it solo in his 6 HoFs to date. This moves him clear off the chasing Dizart and paper_aero for the 3rd spot. gtho4 cuts N-Bomb's lead at the top by a point. Sypher and dg_dave move into their highest positions this season, while ozzz2002 slips to his lowest after another spoon.

A rampant Manchester City destroyed Chelsea 6-0 to return to the top of the Premier League after Liverpool’s convincing win against Bournemouth. Tottenham stayed on the fringes of the title race by riding their luck to beat Leicester 3-1 while Manchester United clambered into the top four for the first time since August. Burnley and Cardiff won on the road too. With their 3rd loss in their last 5 games, Chelsea drop out of the top 5. At the other end, Huddersfield and Fulham look set to drop back at the end of the season.
We continue to get most of our points from the top 4-5 teams. 4 matches were picked by everybody and the spoon score was 5, scored by half the field! dg_dave continues his steady climb up the ladder, landing a bonus point this week for solo honours. He was at #15 just 3 rounds back!

Liverpool played out a goalless draw at Old Trafford to regain their lead at the top of the standings. Tottenham slumped to a shock defeat at Burnley though, to dent their own title chances. Arsenal won and are now a point ahead of Manchester United in 4th place. Leicester City sacked their manager after another poor show at home, while Cardiff also slumped to a big defeat in front of their home fans against Watford.
gtho4 is still keeping pace with leader N-Bomb and has cut his lead down to a single point now. These two have opened up a healthy 6 point lead at the top. 4 of us won the round's honours while another 5 of us added spoons to our collections.

All 10 matches played in mid-week produced outright results. 8 home teams won and these included leaders Liverpool and Manchester City. Tottenham lost a second game in a row, this time to Chelsea, and probably blew their title chances goodbye. At the other end of the table, Huddersfield got a shock win with a 91st minute goal against the Wolves, but look set to go down at the end of the season. Fulham will probably join them too, but Southampton won to move out of the relegation zone, while Cardiff lost a second game in a row to now fall back 2 points behind 17th place.
Our table here makes a similar reading. N-Bomb blitzed the round and with the resultant bonus, has again moved 4 points clear of gtho4 at the top. PaulE is slowly moving clear of Dizart and paper_aero for the final podium place but probably has too much to catch up for the silver medal. With 10 rounds remaining in the comp, the rest of us are so far behind that it will take a real miracle for anyone outside the top 5 from here on to get on to the podium.

Liverpool were frustrated by Everton in their Mersey-side derby, Tottenham were saved by Harry Kane in their London derby against Arsenal, but there were wins for both of the Manchester sides over the weekend. It's Manchester City back in the lead in the race now.
We had our second best round of the season as a group, but we are all running our own marathon here and currently all by ourselves, though toocool4u has pulled to within 2 points of Fifiona81 at the rear. |

Manchester United's superb run in the premier league under their caretaker manager finally hit a brake on Sunday after they lost to Arsenal on road, their first defeat since December 16th. Arsenal now pull to with a point of Tottenham, who crashed to their 3rd defeat in 4 league matches. Meanwhile, both Manchester City and Liverpool won, while Chelsea slipped after being held to a draw at home by the Wolves. Leicester City and Newcastle both won at home, while Brighton made it 2 wins in a row after beating Crystal Palace.

With the FA Cup laying waste to half the fixtures this weekend and with the upcoming internationals for the next 2 weeks, this round has been condensed to just 5 matches. 2 were picked by everybody and 1 by none. Liverpool used the absence of Manchester City to good effect and are back to a 2 point lead at the top. Fulham and Huddersfield have probably resigned themselves to a kick downstairs for the next season, but Chelsea lost again on the road to Everton this time.

Another action-packed weekend where there was an outright result in all 10 matches saw Huddersfield Town relegated with six games to play - the joint-earliest in terms of games in the Premier League era. They join Derby County (2007-08) and Ipswich Town (1994-95) in earning this dubious record. Fulham look set to join them down in the FLC too...give them a week or two more. At the top, Tottenham has lost 4 of its last 5 matches too, and have been overtaken by Arsenal for the 3rd spot. They are now just a point ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea for the last qualifying spot for next season's Champions League.

Fulham sparkled briefly after their relegation was ensured, and "surprised" Everton. Chelsea was no match for Liverpool. All 10 matches this weekend had outright results but the interest over the last 4 rounds would probably center around the top 6 positions. Guess two matches will stand out for the impact they can have over the final placings -- Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur in Round 35 on 20 April and Manchester United v Chelsea in round 36 on 27 April.
We all picked 3 matches here and missed 3. Dizart takes sole honours for the round for his first bonus point, while dg_dave and Elftwinkle add to their spoon collection as we all chug along towards our inevitable finish...no more dramatics or last-minute thrills left I guess
