This is an F-15C Eagle fighter, the single seat version of the only aircraft of its type in the world that has never been lost in combat. This aircraft belongs to the 493rd Fighter Squadron, the 'Grim Reapers' based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.
The 492nd, 493rd and 494th Fighter Squadrons, all of which operate the F-15C, D and E versions, are part of the 48th Fighter Wing. Also known as the 'Statue of Liberty Wing', or more briefly as the 'Liberty Wing' the 48th is one of the USAF's premier flying organisations and has been based in mainland Europe and the UK since its formation in July 1952.
