In answer to your question, Valois - do I have a choice?

Valois, Who the heck ARE those people!? Just kidding, it's just that I'm 25. Keep in mind your parents went through it too, and so will I! Truthfully though, I don't think I've actually seen any of those people "live" or "in person", but only on archive reels.

Betle, you are not that young that you don't know at least one of these people! Dr. Seuss died on September 24, 1991. So, he wasn't "before your time"! Valois, thanks for this thread (I think). (Actually, I'm a bit in the same boat as Betle in that most of them weren't around when I was born, but I still feel like I know them!)

I thought most people would have heard OF them, not personally remember them. Like having heard of Ed Sullivan because he introduced the Beatles and Elvis Presley to America (well, it really wasn't Ed who introduced Elvis, it was Jackie Gleason. I know...Who's he?). And then there's the Vietnam War and Lyndon Johnson. And how about the singer who fooled around with Burt Reynolds; I think it was this kinky 'mother fixation' kinda thing. And what's wrong with you people? Don't you buy the National Enquirer? If you did you'd know who Onassis, JFK and Marilyn Monroe are. See, there was this President who fooled around with with this actress, but then he got killed, and then his widow....oh, never mind. I'm gonna go take some Geritol and sit in my porch rocker for a while.

Well then, Valois! Make sure the chains on the porch swing are tightened for ME! I remember them all, and SAW them all, at one time or another! How about Mae West??? Is she still alive, cause I think she is! Have you an age for Bob Barker? or Dick Clark? God, they're still going strong! And how old is Twiggy? That would give me pause! And why are the Rolling Stones still touring???? I don't know the figure, but it must be their 40th year or something!!! I'm getting sad now....spike the Geritol!

Geritol, my friends Valois and Lefois, guess I'll keep them! They take care of themselves especially cultivating their minds. I don't really feel as chronologically challenged as all that and yet I knew all of those people on live TV. I don't think Marilyn would have withstood being older like that. Just read that Joyce Carol Oates version of her life and I don't think she'd have been a happy camper.
Mick's doing fine Lefois, it's the other guy who looks horrid. But then again he always did. Oh what's his name, Bill Wylie? Can you tell I preferred the Beatles? Look at how well McCartney's doing.
So I don't feel that old from having recognized everyone on that list, I just think that some of those folks wouldn't have wanted to live to that age. Marilyn in particular. Twiggy is doing well. I saw her recently.

Valois my sweetie, I am older than you so don't knock age! Life only began at 50 and it is really good, 50 was fun so 60 must be great and 70 fantastic. I will be able to do all those things which my daughter frowns at and if I can manage to drool a little I might just get away with it being an 'age thing'.
The one of those people where it really surprised me was JFK, he was such a young man when he was killed and as I can remember watching the funeral on TV it doesn't seem like so very long ago. He sadly shared funeral days with a friend of mine who also died that November but she was only 16. We came from her funeral to watch the JFK one on TV.

I shiver when I think of the day JFK died and of hearing about it at work.
Anyway, for those Ed Sullivan fans out there, a little trivia question: What was the name of the Ed Sullivan Show before it was called the Ed Sullivan Show?
And let's not forget the late Lucille Ball and Ricky Ricardo -- I Love Lucy!
Socks, what socks??? Oh no, I've lost my socks and can't find them. Oh well, my shoes are just as old.......

Linda, True, Dr. Seuss might not be before my time, but I was never into that as a kid. Had no idea it was so recent. Even so, of course I've heard of all these people. I actually prefer watching programs from (uh, oh) that era. The humor at least, is in my mind far superior to today's TV. Valois-sorry about your socks! Don't feel too bad, my aunt once put the TV remote to her ear when the cordless phone rang. Jackie Gleason and "The Honeymooners" never fail to entertain. Cheers also for the Ricardos! -They never get old.

I knew of all of them apart from Dr. Suess. I had to go to Google to find out who he was ...and I can't claim youth as an excuse!
I too remember when I heard the news about JFK. A friend (who I still see to this day) and I were strumming guitars and trying our hands at songwriting (not good).
I've still got our failed effort written on a piece of music paper up in the loft somewhere.
