IMPORTANT NOTE: This game is nowhere near ready yet -- most of the links / stats / badges etc are not in there.
It won't reset on the hour. It will reset whenever I want it to reset wink

ALSO: right now it lets anyone play. Eventually GMs will be able to play hourly, and non-GMs will be able to play it once a day.

Please go ahead and PLAY and SUBMIT the game though:

http://www.funtrivia.com/fifty/

This game gets rid of the old "level division" system and instead uses new experimental state-of-the-art performance-based divisions. So players who are always slow and score badly will forever remain in division 1. Players who score well will move up into the higher divisions.

Calculating your score..

Questions correct: 7 / 15
You took 18 seconds to complete this quiz.
Total score: 664
You have been awarded 66 points for your score. You may score extra points when this hour is over if you finish near the top of the division.

And scores shows up like-

Leaderboard for Division 1 ( last hour's scores)

Player Correct Time Award Score
1. Jennifer5 12 47 +260 (*) 1100
2. gme24 13 77 +205 (*) 1050
3. Terry 9 13 +162 (*) 874
4. Edu_sgrove 8 63 +117 (*) 674
5. LoveAnimals555 7 18 +116 (*) 664

Terry, there seems some problem, the game is not calculating score on its own.

7. postcards2go 15 59 +30 (*) 0
8. Picard25 13 85 +30 (*) 0

These two new players are showing to have 0 score. shocked

Ooh... nice!

Though it's a shame the system has remembered that Rossian is supposed to win everything, one day there'll be a game where that doesn't happen. wink

Interesting - you seem to have taken current questions and selected as options the correct answer and one of the incorrect ones. This works fine, but one of the questions I got specifically asked which of three answers was correct, then only offered two choices. Some players may find that confusing.

Do you remember the exact wording of the question? I've tried to filter out such questions, but it will need tweaking.

Next thing to test will be the division determination stuff... which should be a huge improvement over what we've got.

It places you in a division based on how you perform against other players. Not only that, but it anticipates who it thinks will likely play based on recent history, and adjusts your divisions based on that, so that all divisions have roughly the same projected number of people playing in them.

At night it reduces the number of divisions and recalculates the division you are in.

If this works out well I will roll it out slowly over time to the other hourly and daily games. It will prevent the issue of lopsided divisions, and poorly performing high-level players getting stuck with high-level experts, and low-level experts destroying the poorer performing players. Your player level will become irrelevant -- it will all be performance based.

Quote:
Is carbon dioxide (CO2) an element, a compound or a mixture?

Your answer: Compound

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a chemical compound. A compound is created by the combination of two or more elements, which are chemically bonded together. Mixtures are physical combinations of various substances that do not chemically interact with each other and, hence, they can, in principle, be easily separated to their constituents.

Hmmmmm interesting looney, nothing tell-tale in the question text to indicate the question is reliant on more than one answer!

The "Which of the following.." type questions are easy to filter out. This is trickier.

Terry, I imagine that you can filter most of them with the obvious steps such as eliminating questions where the answer is All of these, All of the above, None of these, Both A and B, Neither A nor B, etc. The question I happened to get was probably unusual in its format, and it shoudn't be a big problem if it happens once in a while. It just made me think, "That's odd" for a moment that slowed me down. But I'm not a speed demon, anyway.

Yep, I filter all of the obvious cases that I can think of. I added "Is*,*or*" as a filter too, which caught your question and a few others like it.

Ok, I have run the first Division Determination algorithm and reset the game.

Testers will have been placed in one of the 4 divisions based on how their first game went. The algorithm re-runs after every hour. Over time as more data is collected you will naturally move into the "fairest" division for you.

Go ahead and play, and in theory we should end up with division 1 having first time players + weaker players (like me lol) from the first round. Division 4 should have those who finished near the top.

Hmm, "Easier" and most good players get 9/15 which is not that far above pure guessing...

The label is wrong because we're not on an hrly schedule yet... this is actually on difficult qn sets right now.

I can tweak difficulty level easily though if even difficult is too difficult
