Agreed. Thanks for clarifying, Wes.

Regarding a question in the current (4-6 PM CST) intermediate round:

Which fictional pair are mysteriously out of their element here?

Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee

Hercule Poirot and Arthur Hastings

Not sure what the other 2 answers were, but I took the 'mysteriously' hint the wrong way and picked Hercule & Arthur.

Nope.

"The correct answer was Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee

Of course it didn't take you long to uncover that Frodo and Sam don't belong with the others. After all, the three other pairs are famous detectives and their respective sidekicks. If you got this question in a 50-50 game, then you might have worked out that these two are not mysterious at all!"

It probably already has been addressed, hence the last sentence.

But still, playing against the clock, one can't dwell too long on any question.

Only my opinion, of course, but this type of 'odd one out' question works better with all four answers, as opposed to two.

I agree, boon. I had that question, as well... picked the same answer as you, felt led astray by the 'mysteriously', and sent a correction note, so an editor can see it.

Editors cannot take questions out of just that game - it would need to be removed from all timed games. An editor in the category needs to make the call - and it seems that an effort has already been made to do so.

Thank you for the response, looney. I guess we can live with it smile

If I'm posting in the wrong place, please let me know, also let me know the correct place to address future comments.

Another 50/50 Q that probably don't belong, again in intermediate:

Q: Sci / Tech
6. Amino acids are important biochemical compounds. Which organic functional groups do amino acids contain?

neither
both

Your answer: both (got it right this time, but still, could only guess)

Amino acids are molecules which contain both a carboxylic acid and an amine group. Amino acids are used for building proteins and metabolism.

71% of FunTrivia players have answered this question correctly in the past.
Question by player workisboring.

Actually, any question with 2 options, neither, or both probably wouldn't work well when pared down to only 2 choices.

They are filtered out when the questions are drawn from quizzes, but seemingly not when they are from single questions. If you submit a correction saying it doesn't work in the 50/50 game, an editor can readily amend the answers to read "Both carboxylic acid and amine" and "Neither carboxylic acid nor amine", and it will be clear. A bit clunkier than the simple both/neither, but definitely playable.
