this sums it up:

Quote:

Leeds United fans are furious with the transfer are already demanding the resignations of the plc board after selling what they see as the 'soul' of the club. But Simon Jose, co-founder of the Leeds United Independent Fans' Association - formerly the Leeds Supporters' Forum - has conceded he will canvass opinion from the Association's members before deciding what action to take.
`
Jose said: 'I cannot believe they (the board) are this stupid. 'I don't think they really know just how angry we are because I've been receiving e-mails from members on this, and they are from all walks of life. Many talk about the gross incompetence of the board and expressing their disbelief at what is happening at our once great club. I think the bottom line is some of the directors now have to go. It's as simple as that. They cannot be allowed to continue, not after getting us in such a mess.'
`
Leeds problems have arisen as the club banked on the riches of Champions League football following their success in reaching the semi-finals of the competition in 2001, only to fail in the two subsequent seasons.

Yup. Agreed there George.

So what next for the club? First division obscurety? Obviously, as football fans, we do not want that, but if Ridsdale has his way...

The Man Utd list is going crazy with speculation at the mo, and you have to wonder how Ridsdale kept control.

Oceania get a kick in the teeth from FIFA, and now this:
Kewell close to sealing Liverpool switch

Harry Kewell is expected to complete a £7million move to Liverpool within the next 24 to 48 hours after snubbing last-ditch bids from Manchester United and Chelsea. A transfer saga which has dragged on longer than that of David Beckham looks set to reach a conclusion by Wednesday at the latest, with Leeds winger Kewell opting to join his boyhood heroes.

Kewell, who has turned his back on the offer of becoming Leeds' highest-paid player on £48,000-per-week, has apparently already agreed a £60,000-per-week package with the Reds. The two clubs, who held talks over the weekend, remain in negotiations regarding a fee and the structure of the payments, although it is unlikely there will be any last minute hitches.

Despite Liverpool's inability to offer Kewell Champions League football for next season, the chance to join the club he supported as a boy has proved too irresistible a lure. Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier will be delighted to have pipped Arsene Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson and Claudio Ranieri to Kewell's signature, underlining the Merseyside giants still have pulling power, regardless of the fact they are only in the UEFA Cup.

Arsenal initially missed out on signing Kewell as they were unable to find the cash, both in terms of transfer fee and wages, allowing Liverpool to jump in. Manchester United and Chelsea are both understood to have made late offers for the 24-year-old Australia international, but have also lost out to the Anfield club.

Kewell has long secretly voiced his concerns about moving across the Pennines to Leeds' bitter rivals in Manchester United, while he was also apparently unhappy at the way Beckham was treated in relation to his move to Real Madrid. Chelsea, despite being armed with the millions of multi-billionaire Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, were still a less attractive proposition for Kewell than Liverpool.

we don't need Fantasy Football .. it happens in real life:
He Stabbed Us in the Back
    by Michael Morgan

Harry Kewell was affectionately known as the "Wizard of Oz" during nine magical years with Leeds. But, as he left Elland Road for the last time yesterday, he had another and far less complimentary tag hanging around his neck. Kewell, 24, today begins life as a Liverpool player accused of being a back-stabber. That is how he will be remembered by the directors and the fans of the Yorkshire giants he has left behind in such controversial circumstances.

He was blasted by Elland Road chairman Professor John McKenzie, who is outraged by Kewell's revelation he had been speaking with Liverpool for more than SIX MONTHS before yesterday's £7million deal was finally concluded. McKenzie raged: "When I heard he had been speaking to Liverpool for six months, I was flabbergasted and irritated that somebody who has been playing for Leeds, has been developed by Leeds and paid an extraordinary wage would want to renege on the fans and stab them in the back in this way. I cannot comprehend why anyone would want to do that and it is certainly illegal."

In reality, Leeds will rake in just £3m, with Kewell and his agent Bernie Mandic getting the remaining £4m between them. The pair got £2m from Leeds after insisting Kewell would see out the remaining 12 months of his contract and leave for NOTHING on a Bosman free if they were not given that pay-off. Kewell and Mandic then negotiated another £2m pay-out from Liverpool. On top of that, the Aussie winger will earn £18.2m from the £70,000-a-week five-year deal he has signed with the Kop kings.

But his move leaves Leeds still struggling to shed a crippling debt of £78.9m. Leeds need every penny they can get and the bottom line is they had no choice other than to accept the terms laid down by the Aussie duo. Such is their situation, they took £3.3m from Roma for Olivier Dacourt when the fee initially agreed for the French midfielder last January was £4.25m. It is also the reason why they were ready to off-load their England goalkeeper Paul Robinson to Aston Villa last month for just £3m - less than half his true market value.

The incredible thing about the Kewell deal is the player refutes any accusation that he has been greedy. Kewell took an angry parting shot when he said: "I am really disappointed I have been portrayed as disloyal to Leeds. If the truth be known, all I needed to do was wait a few months and go on a Bosman. "I would have been able to pocket the entire fee and Leeds would have got nothing. So how does that make me greedy? I don't know why some people want to see me in that way." Leeds fans certainly will not take that view and Kewell can expect a hostile reception when he returns for the first time as a Liverpool player in next February's Premiership clash.

Kewell did turn down better offers to link up with Liverpool - the club he has supported since growing up as a kid in Sydney. Chelsea, who came in with an 11th-hour bid of £9m, would have given him £80,000 a week, while Barcelona would have handed him a weekly wage of over £70,000. Manchester United and Arsenal were also keen to sign him and Kewell admitted: "There were a lot of great teams in there, but Liverpool is where I'll be playing next season. They have got some great players and some exciting youngsters. There is something special about Liverpool and that is why I accepted their offer."

Kewell is certainly a superstar with the talent to transform Liverpool into Premiership title challengers. That is the belief of former Leeds boss Howard Wilkinson, who brought him to Elland Road eight years ago. Wilko, boss for eight years until his sacking in 1996, said: "If you are a Leeds supporter you will be disappointed because he is undoubtedly one of Europe's top players. Three years ago I thought Harry, potentially, and Zinedine Zidane were the best two players in Europe. Now Liverpool will be counting themselves lucky they have got a player of his quality for that kind of money. Providing he can get back the consistency he had two or three years ago, he will be a terrific addition to Gerard Houllier's squad."

Former Liverpool and England goalkeeper Ray Clemence said: "This is a very good signing because Harry is obviously an excellent player. He will give something which Liverpool have been missing for a while - they've been crying out for a wide player. He has already proved himself at Leeds, although last season, for some reason or another, he didn't perform as well as he can do."

The cynics among the Leeds supporters will say that is because he had more than one eye on swapping his white shirt for a Liverpool red one. But Kewell added: "Money wasn't the main factor. You can have all the money in the world, but you want to look back on your career and see the medals in the pot."

and this guy will continue living in Leeds?

Who'd of thought it?

A Leeds Utd team without any ex-cons in it?

(S'pose you've still got Varuka!), but with Kewell going to Scouse and Woodgate going to Newcastle (hasn't that famous died in the blood Hammers fan gone there as well?), you'll soon be a team devoid of 'Hard-Men'!

Ah, for the days of Jordan and McQueen...........oops! didn't they play better football for a team over the Pennines?

wez (wishing he'd studied better at 'Agents' School! )

Personally speaking, I'm a little angry about this situation. While as a Manchester United supporter, I shouldn't come to the aid of Leeds, but I feel that they've been hard done by here. Football should be a game, and not money orientated, which seems the case here.

The Premier League is well under way again. Man Utd carry on their way as if it'd never finished. van Nistelrooy scores again to set a new Premiership record. Arsenal have yet another player sent off. . What more could you ask for! (gtho, don't say a Leeds win )

Apart from the tea lady, the boot cleaning guy and the local takeaway dishwasher, Leeds don't have much of a team anymore

I just had a bit of a hunch that they wouldn't let the tea lady don the shirt, even for the dying minutes.

How I love these league tables after 1 game? Man City 3rd to Man Utd.'s 2nd.......mmmmm!

Leeds 9th? Fair enough, should have played Doris Enthwistle at centre forward. Why can't Northerners put more than a nanospoon of milk in thier tea? She won't last long, must be worth at least 11 million to somebody out there. Come on Reidy, apply your managerial knowledge in the same way that you applied your 'trying to get to grips with Diego Maradonna, whilst failing miserably and letting the cheating Argentian waltz past you in an embarrasing manner, to score!', defensive acumen

I'll never forgive him, don't know about the rest of you?

I seriously wish Leeds Utd. the best of luck. Cantona...... you'll need it!
