Didn't know you and Jerry had the same ego...and why would the Super Bowl play in Arlington, VA? There is no football stadium there...I would know, plus traffic is nasty because there are no frontage roads. I-395 is horrible when it comes to traffic.

Nah...Dan Snyder is just as bad, and my fiancée's brother-in-law is a Redskins fan. Oddly enough, there are more Cowboy fans in the DC area than Redskins fans.

.

  • No one got all four games, and three of us start with goose eggs, as some teams surprised and others went on as per the usual. Three of the Super Bowl picks are already crossed off, and two conference champions are no more. I'm not at all surprised that illiniman14 went with Chicago, since he's their fan, but why did Dizart follow suit?

  • As this is my first foray in scoring this comp, please bear with me as I think I've got this correct. As for the usual NFL season, that's never an issue scoring.

  • The postseason started us off with the Indianapolis Colts traveling to Houston to take on the Texans. Both teams started the season off on the wrong foot (Houston started 0-3 and Indianapolis 1-5), but both went on a tear to end the season. Whose momentum would carry over into the postseason? The answer to that is Luck, as Indianapolis raced to a 21-0 lead at the break. It didn't fare much better for Houston in the second half, but they did get on the board with a touchdown late in the game. Indianapolis moves on to face Kansas City at Arrowhead, defeating Houston 21-7.

  • The nightcap in Arlington, Texas, was a bit more of a surprise, as only five of our 16 got it correct. It was the third time that Dak Prescott and Russell Wilson had faced one another, and this one had more significance because it was January football. It was a back and forth affair, as both teams scored field goals, then Seattle got another, but Dallas answered with a touchdown. At the end of the first half, Sebastian Janikowski went for a 57 yard field goal to get the score within one. After the kick, he clutched his left leg and the kick sailed wide, leaving Dallas with a 10-6 lead at the break. In the second half, the teams traded touchdowns, and Dallas had a 17-14 lead with 12½ to go. After a couple of punts, Dallas got into the end zone once again, now holding a 24-14 lead. With the 2:00 warning still coming, Wilson had plenty of time, however, due to Janikowski's exit and no viable kicker otherwise, Seattle would be forced to go for two after a touchdown, which they got 50 seconds later. That pulled Seattle to a 24-22 deficit, but then they'd have to pull an onside kick, and their punter wasn't capable, so Dallas escaped at home to the chagrin of Dizart and will move on to the divisional round, 24-22. Dizart is now 6-11 picking the Cowboys this season. One thing still questions me...why is Roy Rogers "the singing cowgirl", "the singing ladyboy", "the singing rentboy", or "the singing cowdung"???

  • In Baltimore, the Chargers were looking for revenge after the Ravens beat them a couple of weeks ago. Michael Badgely did all the scoring in the first half, as the Chargers got several from him and a 12-0 lead. Baltimore answered with a field goal of their own in the third, now trailing 12-3. The Chargers would get a touchdown and a field goal before the Ravens were able to get into the end zone. Now trailing 23-10, the Ravens tried for an onside kick. The Chargers were flagged for an illegal formation, allowing Baltimore to attempt the onside again. Keenan Allen was waiting and grabbed the ball on a bounce, giving the Chargers the ball at midfield. The Chargers didn't get far, so punted away again. After a few completions, the Ravens were faced with a third down and long, and the Chargers pass rush ran Lamar Jackson well out of the pocket. How he made the completion to Kenneth Dixon is astounding, because he threw across his body plus threw with a Charger on him. A few plays later, right at the 2:00 warning (at 1:59 on the clock), Michael Crabtree grabbed a pass from Jackson on fourth down. The officials originally called Crabtree down at the 1 yard line. After review, as Crabtree was completely within the end zone then fell back onto the field, the ball was dead the moment he grabbed it, slicing the Chargers' lead to 23-17. The Chargers forced Baltimore to burn their remaining two timeouts, then an offensive lineman made a major error...holding on third down, after their running back had gotten enough for a first down to run out the clock. The Chargers missed the first down and had to punt again giving Lamar Jackson one last chance. He got to midfield again, but on second down, Jackson fumbled and the Chargers recovered, allowing Rivers to run out the clock and move on to face New England, 23-17.

  • The final game at Soldier Field knocked the stuffing out of a lot of us, as most of us were picking an easy win for Chicago. Philadelphia got help from the Bears in the final week of the season by virtue of the Bears win over Minnesota. The Eagles scored first on a field goal, but gave Chicago two of their own, trailing at the break 6-3. The Eagles were able to force the Bears to punt on their first possession of the second half, then made two key mistakes (an unnecessary roughness penalty of 15 yards and later, a pass interference penalty of 33 yards (NFL rules were changed a few years ago to a defensive pass interference moved the ball to the spot of the foul)). The Eagles capitalized and punched it in for a 10-6 lead. The Bears got another field goal to cut the lead to one, then was able to punch it in themselves, but missed on the two points, leading only 15-10, so a touchdown alone would give the Eagles the lead. They did just that, and with just under a minute and a one point lead, went for two themselves to stretch the lead to three. They failed as well. The Bears took the kickoff back to their own 42, so a short field and enough time to get their kicker up for the game winner. Trubisky did his part by marching the Bears to the Eagle 25, but with :05 left, Cody Parkey missed the biggest field goal of his career, from 43 yards, allowing the Eagles to win at Soldier Field, killing two of our Super Bowl picks, and move on to New Orleans, 16-15. Will the Saints repeat their effort against the Eagles next weekend? We shall see...

Now Roy Rogers is "the singing rentboy" again...what did he do to you personally, Dizart???

You must be a Patriots fan...you already root for cheaters in baseball, why not football too?

  • Several perfect picks this week, and ozzz2002 holds the lead halfway through. No advance picks were lost this week. If I've missed a point, please remember I'm doing this for the first time...I know, second week, but still first run.

  • In Kansas City, the Chiefs had yet to beat the Colts in the postseason, plus you had veteran Andrew Luck against rookie Patrick Mahomes. Luck's luck didn't hold well in the snowy conditions, and with Mahomes blowing all sorts of Chiefs franchise records (as well as a few NFL records) out of the water during the season, they showed no sign of slowing down, outgaining the Colts 185-12 through one quarter. At one point, the Chiefs' head coach was sent to stop fans from throwing snowballs to mess up the Colts' players. The Chiefs soundly beat the Colts, 31-13.

  • In Los Angeles, the Rams were going up against one of the stingiest run defenses in the Cowboys. By the time the game ended, no one would have thought so. The Cowboys played in their 63rd postseason game (an NFL record in itself), and for the first time since the merger, gave up 100 yards on the ground to two different running backs in their postseason history. It was the first time the Cowboys had given up 200 on the ground since the NFL's record holder Eric Dickerson (most yards from scrimmage on the ground in a season) did it in 1986. The Rams had a 20-7 lead at the break, but the Cowboys climbed back to trail 23-15 after three. The fourth quarter saw the Rams and Cowboys trade touchdowns, and to the delight of Dizart, the Rams prevailed, 30-22.

  • In Foxborough, this one was over before it began, as the Patriots stormed to a 35-7 halftime lead. Philip Rivers did try to make it interesting late, but for the Chargers, it was too little too late, and the Patriots are in their 8th straight conference championship, also to the delight of Dizart, defeating the Chargers, 41-28.

  • In New Orleans, this one started one way but quickly turned. The Eagles stormed out to a 14-0 lead behind Nick Foles. Would the Eagles do what they did last year and go all the way? Not if Drew Brees has anything to say about it. Brees led the Saints back into it with a pair of touchdowns and a pair of field goals, and the Saints made the home teams sweep the divisional round, knocking off the Eagles, 20-14.

  • The two games knocked the stuffing out of a lot of us...too many calls and non-calls caused a horrible round. Dizart was the only one with perfection this round, getting both correct.

  • In Kansas City, the Patriots looked like they were too much for Mahomes, especially with all Brady's postseason experience. They led 7-0 after 1, 14-0 at the break, and 17-7 after 3. Mahomes may be a rookie, but he was not going to get denied easily. Mahomes got a touchdown pass and another to take a 21-17 lead. Brady answered with one of his own via handoff, and the Patriots took a 24-21 lead. Mahomes took the Chiefs back down and held a 31-28 lead with 1:57 left, after the kickoff. Brady got the Patriots back in after 78 seconds, leaving the Patriots ahead, 31-28, with :39 to go. Mahomes had a chance, and in 31 seconds, got them back into field goal range, and Harrison Butker, who was 21/21 inside 40 yards at Arrowhead this season, booted one from 39 to send the game to overtime. The Patriots got the coin toss and elected to receive. Mahomes never got the ball again, and Brady went to 3-0 in overtime in the postseason, to the delight of Dizart, and the Patriots go on to their 11th Super Bowl (4th in the last five years), 37-31.

  • In New Orleans, the Saints started off well, but it was the end that caused a ruckus. With the Saints driving and inside the two minute warning, Drew Brees threw a pass to a receiver, who was hit helmet-to-helmet, and also interfered upon, and the official who watched it go down did not throw a flag. What could have been a chip shot game winner was kicked with 1:41 to go instead, and the Saints held a 23-20 advantage, but Jared Goff was able to get the Rams back down the field and allow Greg Zuerlein to kick one from 48 with :15 to go. The game went to overtime (this was the first weekend in NFL history that both conference championship games went to overtime), and the Saints had the ball first. They were not able to get anywhere, especially with Brees throwing an interception. Goff got the Rams just inside Saint territory and sent their kicker on, who nailed a game winner from 57, sending the Rams to the Super Bowl for the first time in over 15 years, 26-23. The pass interference and helmet hit will be talked about for a long time.

  • The biggest game of the stage, and it started out very slow, as the teams went nowhere in the first quarter, the Patriots' Gostkowski got a field goal in the second quarter, then Greg Zuerlein answered in the third, before Sony Michel finally broke the end zone for either team. Gostkowski hit one more from afar to end the scoring, which is the lowest scoring Super Bowl of all time (the old low was 21 points in Super Bowl VII). The Patriots also tied the lowest points allowed by any team in a single game, dating back to 1972, when the Dallas Cowboys first set that record against the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI (consequentally, it was the last game in 1972 that the Dolphins would lose, as they went 16-0 over the season and postseason, defeating the Redskins in Super Bowl VII by the score of 14-7 in that 1972 season). The Patriots, while they may not be liked by many, nor their quarterback liked by many, has to be considered the "greatest of all time", considering he has six championship rings. Yes, the Steelers have six as well, but four of theirs came in the 1970s. All six for Brady have come since 2001. It didn't come easy for either team, as the Patriots only had 195 yards at the half, while the Rams only had 57. Time of possession was almost 2 to 1 to the Patriots at that point (19:52 to 10:08).

  • Only three of the 16 of us nailed the winner, although Dizart had to change after he started off with the Bears, who lost in the wild card round.

  • Dizart came out of nowhere in the championship round to even out with ozzz2002, and took the lead, winning this by a point. Mustang's pick of the combined score was six better than ElfTwinkle's, giving him silver and her the bronze, as they both picked the Patriots to score first, as well as lead at halftime. If you notice, the three that picked the winner were the three on the podium. For wwe84/dg_dave/Sypher, it was all based upon tiebreakers - Sypher picked the Rams to score first, and both wwe84 and dg_dave picked the Pats. It came down to the leader at the half for them, and wwe84 correctly picked the Rams, while dg_dave picked a tie. George95 took the tiebreak over srini701 due to his Patriots pick for the first score.

  • A big shoutout to gtho4 to help me with the scoring in this final round, due to recuperating from doing a lot of baking yesterday and my brain was fried trying to add everything together.

  • I'll be back in September to start the next NFL season and see if the Patriots go to their fourth consecutive Super Bowl (tying them with Buffalo) or will two new teams emerge?
  • . .

A BIG shoutout to you too, for putting this all together smile Congrats to the 3 podium finishers.

I read a post somewhere that read "these teams are playing like they know whoever wins goes to the White House" ....maybe that explains the lowest score of all-time smile
