Sypher is no longer our leader. He steps aside and hands over front-running duties to dg_dave. The first three are now separated by a mere 4 pts!
There were no perfect picks on Day 5. Four players came close with just one wrong: dg_dave, Howie72, yoyoandcigs & illiniman14. George95 & ozzz2002 collected a wooden spoon each with just one correct pick.
dg_dave will win this if #1 Gonzaga beat #3 Purdue in the final, as no-one else has those two to play in the final.
The three behind him all have #1 Duke to beat #1 UNC: Sypher, LeoDaVinci and Howie72. Howie72 can't get past Sypher as all their remaining picks are identical. If Day 6 #3 Purdue win and #3 LSU beat #2 Michigan State, LeoDaVinci will pass Sypher.

Auburn's win against UNC saw everyone's mpt crumble, except for three players, whose mpt remained unchanged: dg_dave, N-Bomb and ElfTwinkle.
dg_dave scored a perfect 4/4 and extends his lead to a very healthy 15 pts, with just 7 games left to play .. and he has seven live picks remaining! ElfTwinkle also has seven live, but is too far back to either win or finish on the podium.
The simple conclusion is dg_dave will win this if #1 Gonzaga beat #3 Purdue in the final, as no-one else has those two to play in the final .. and he'll still win this even if both teams fail to make the final, as he has by far the best mpt at a mammoth 295 points.
A score of zero in the last three games (two finalists plus the winner), will see his mpt fall by 26 to 269 points, which is still 11 points ahead of next-best Sypher at 258 mpt (and he needs every one of his four remaining live picks to come home). Now, if those four do eventuate, dg_dave will also lose #3 Purdue and 7 points, but this simply reduces his winning margin from 11 points to 4 points, as long as #2 Kentucky make the Final Four!
LeoDaVinci is in the same boat as Sypher viz. they need all their four live picks to come home and dg_dave to miss 6/7 and only get #1 Duke correct. If that does eventuate they'll both pass dg_dave but LeoDaVinci will, again, finish second as his remaining picks are identical to Sypher's. That'll make it four second places for LeoDaVinci in five years!
The last permutation to consider is N-Bomb. He'll finish with 259 pts if all six of his remaining picks are correct .. which means dg_dave will need to find 14 pts from the maximum 49 pts still available to him to stay ahead of N-Bomb.
Another nine joined illiniman14, ozzz2002 and gtho4 in the grandstand as mere spectators. Their MPTs are now all below dg_dave's current points score. We're now down to a field of six who can win this.

Nine of us failed to score a point on Day 7 (that's half the field), including the leader dg_dave, who lost three live picks (both finalists plus the winner) .. yoyandcigs was perfect on Day 7.
If Duke and Kentucky progress to the Final Four he'll finish on 257 pts. Duke have to go all the way and win this for Sypher to snatch the gold medal, by one point .. and LeoDaVinci will finish 3rd behind dg_dave, as his remaining picks are identical to Sypher's. Although Howie72 also has Duke to win, he can't get past Sypher.
If Auburn knock out Kentucky (and Duke win this by beating Virginia in the final), N-Bomb gatecrashes the entire party and snatches gold from Sypher by a point .. and LeoDaVinci will again finish 3rd.
There are five games left, and ElfTwinkle has five live picks! Three players have three live picks for the semis and final: ElfTwinkle, illiniman14 and N-Bomb.
Day 7 confirmed one result .. gtho4 will finish last collect the wooden spoon. He can't catch anyone, not even ozzz2002 in second last place.
No-one joined the 12 in the grandstands on Day 7 .. we have the same field of six who can win this, or get on the podium.

Yesterday nine of us failed to score a point on Day 7. Today 14 of 18 failed to score a point including, again, the leader dg_dave.
Ten pins were falling everywhere after #1 Duke lost to #2 Michigan State and #2 Kentucky were beaten by #5 Auburn (and thus Auburn will make their first-ever appearance in the Final Four). These two results knocked out not only both of dg_dave's remaining live picks, but they (especially the loss by Duke) also knocked out the players who could still catch him.
Therefore, it's all over, dg_dave is the winner of the 18th edition of March Madness. It's his first-ever win; and he won it without a correct Final Four pick! This is an unprecedented achievement (doomed failed to pick any of the Final Four back in 2008 and finished on podium, but that was a bronze medal).
There's just one live pick for the winner .. linkan has #2 Michigan State to win the comp!
If Virginia win their next game and progress to the final, N-Bomb will jump up onto the podium and snatch silver off Sypher, by just one point! If that happens it will push LeoDaVinci off the podium. No-one else can finish on the podium behind dg_dave.

The national semi-finals saw Virginia and Texas Tech progress to the final on Monday .. but, as no-one has a live pick for the winner, this comp has been completed.. The last live pick for the winner was #2 Michigan State by linkan.
N-Bomb and illiniman14 scored the last points in this comp when Virginia won their semi-final and progressed to the final. With those points N-Bomb moved up from 5th into 2nd place .. he won silver by a point over Sypher. LeoDaVinci was pushed off the podium.
dg_dave has won the 18th edition of March Madness, which is a bit of an improvement on his 2018 finish, where he finished last. It's his first-ever win; and he won it without a correct Final Four pick; an unprecedented achievement .. doomed failed to pick any of the Final Four back in 2008 and finished on podium, but that was a bronze medal.
