Must admit to being somewhat annoyed at scoring 0 here (should have been 9). I only play the tc to battle my previous scores. Can anything be done here? This is the current set

To add fuel to your fire, I had that BT and scored nine correct, answering pretty much exactly the same as you - i.e. including the apostrophes. (Not that it matters, but I got #8 wrong as well, but with a different wrong answer). I had a private message from another player, too, who also had correct answers marked wrong.

I have no explanation regarding the reason.

If you look really closely at Mikemaster's copy/paste information, you will see that the symbol used for the apostrophe in the original and in the submitted response are not the same character - one is completely vertical , one has a slant. This is the reason that we no longer allow punctuation of any sort in FITB questions - what you mean to enter is read by the computer as a different symbol because of backstage ASCII (or whatever is the current equivalent of that) coding. Using SmartQuotes produces a different apostrophe from normal, and so do several other applications that you may have running in the background without realising it.

Great spot. I used this symbol: ' which is the standard apostrophe on my keyboard. Luckily for me, I have no idea how to create the other one.

It IS annoying - there was no mention of not using apostrophes in the quiz header and the example answer only had an apostrophe option. There is only one apostrophe on my iPad....

I do know and have for years that punctuation is no longer used in more recent quizzes

The apostrophes are the problem. This is the reason that answers with punctuation are not allowed in fill in the blank questions any longer. Now that that quiz is no longer the daily Brain Twist I'll be able to amend the header.

The iPad settings may be adjustable to use a different apostrophe, the one directly from the chosen font. The setting for it will be there somewhere, if you have the time and energy to find it. (I do not have an iPad, so cannot offer any more precise advice than that.)

The apostrophe issue also comes from copying quizzes from specific word processors. Working on a quiz in Microsoft Word, for instance, can create a different apostrophe from the one generated in your browser.

A similar issue comes up with hyphens/dashes, and some computers do the same with quotation marks.

Again, all reasons why we don't allow punctuation in FITB anymore.

With the original issue resolved - please don't paste complete quizzes like this while they are still active. You're giving people a freebie if they happen to pull the same one.

The Global Challenge page says the current Global Challenge began Tuesday, October 23, 2018. (#34)

Uh, no.

The date given was the date of the start of the last GC (#33). The current GC (#34) began on Monday, March 11, 2019.

This should be corrected.

I have a question regarding the Immortal badge upgrades - for example, on several badge pages for the upgrades it tells you how many you have already done and therefore you can tell how many more you would need for the next upgrade, i.e. on the Word Weaver badge page it says 'So far you have scored --- words of at least length 11' and on the Speed Demon badge page 'You have scored --- winner points so far'.

Would it be possible to have something like that for the Immortal badge page please, to know how near you are to the next upgrade? It is self-explanatory for Tiers 1,2 and 3 but after that there is a bigger gap between upgrades. It would be much easier to see how many times you have achieved Immortal on the badge page rather than trawling through the results of all the previous rounds and perhaps missing one. Thanks!

I love the new questions in the Global Challenge set. Adds some variety which is great and also reduces the number of questions everyone has memorized.

One request though. Is it possible to limit the number of words (or characters) in a question? I was pretty frustrated yesterday in the Science category which is usually my wheelhouse. I had 4 or 5 questions that were close to 100 words long. In these cases I end up having to just blindly guess and move on but ended up having to start skimming them after the first two and ended up over the 130 second time limit. Same thing happened in "Hobbies" which in previous challenges was a decent category for me through level 7. So I missed out scoring on two categories last night. Frustrating.

If the goal is to see what we know the questions that are between 10 and 40 words are about perfect to challenge the brain but be answerable in 8 seconds or less. I always prefer more succinct questions in general but especially on timed quizzes.

Any chance GC questions could be limited to 50 words for the question and less than 40 words for the total answer?

Below is an example from Music that is 98 words long. I just guessed and got lucky this time but I don't think skimming it would have helped too much in this case.

"The last song brings us back to the singer in the first song. However, this time, he is with 3 other band members that you may know as "The Beatles". In my opinion, there is only one true thing in the universe... and that is love. It is not the love that humans usually think of, as that kind of love is conditional. It often gets confused for need and expectations usually shatter dreams. Love relationships come and go, but unconditional love will always remain. What is the name of the Beatles song that embraces this exact philosophy?"

Thanks
