You could perhaps say this one is my fault, since I knew about the problem and didn’t investigate to see what, if anything, could be done on my end. But it’s worth pointing out that question 1 on the Brain Twist I had today, ASA Wordwise 7, had a fill in the blank answer that contained an apostrophe, and my answer was marked as incorrect even though it matched the answer on the results page.

Brain Twist has been modified to ignore apostrophes in both the answers and whatever you type in.

Please let me know if any other problems occur going forward. If so, please note the quiz name / number or copy/paste some questions so we can find the quiz for testing.

A similar issue happened to me just now. For today's Brain Twist, I got "This is kinda like the 'Wordwise by Minch' stuff. They're all song titles and they should be pretty easy. Good luck!" by PeachyPie. It states: "Please note: This quiz was written when punctuation was allowed in Fill in the Blank answers. Please use punctuation (apostrophes) if necessary."

So, I was careful to use punctuation, however on 2 answers I was marked wrong for using punctuation: Question 2, the answer is Walkin' on the Sun. I put the apostrophe but was marked wrong because the quiz writer has the song title wrong: Walking on the Sun. I did a Google search in case there is another song with the word walking but it only finds Walkin'. Similarly, Q.8, the answer is Mambo No. 5 - that is how it is written according to the Google search I did to check when I was marked wrong, the only reason I can think of for being marked wrong is I used the punctuation after the No. which was not one of the many acceptable answers.

This makes me really grumpy because I won't get the credit for the Global Challenge and I'm being penalized because the quiz writer had the answers wrong. Below are some of the questions so you can identify the quiz. I also have snaggits of the entire quiz and my responses but I couldn't post them here.

Please note: This quiz was written when punctuation was allowed in Fill in the Blank answers. Please use punctuation (apostrophes) if necessary.

I just played that one. Even if the song title is Walkin' on the sun, in a wordwise quiz you need to write what you see, which is walking on the sun. Then you submit a correction note to point out that the title is not correct. The Mambo No 5 one is nastier - since I didn't even consider the full stop, I got it right, and didn't see the range of accepted options.

I have sent in a correction note on the quiz registering your concerns.

The thing is, though, the answers are supposed to be song titles - the title of the song is not Walking..., it's Walkin'

That's an issue with that particular quiz, not punctuation in general.

Thank you, Agony. If I did it correctly, I've submitted the correction. If it goes to the quiz creator, it looks like they've not been on the site since 2001.

No worries! Editors see such correction notes and deal with them!
