the largest airport in the world (measured by total land area) is Saudi Arabia's King Khalid International Airport, which covers 87 square miles (225 square km). Located near Saudi Arabia's capitol, Riyadh, it was opened
in 1983 and like Riyadh it is surrounded by hundreds of miles of empty desert.
