I just released another book today! Can't wait to see when someone picks it up!
Are any of the rest of you still doing this?

How cool! I just checked out the site, and there was one released 4 miles from here! I've got some books I have been wanting to clear off my bookcase to make room for more that I have bought (I'm always scouting thrift shops and the library's used book store). I was going to donate the books I am through with to a thrift store, but this is a better idea! I will be going through my books in the next couple of days to decide which ones to set free, but I don't have a printer, so I will have to wait until the next time I go to my mom's to use hers to make the labels. How did I miss this thread? Thanks for the great idea!!

Well! I just saw that ONE book has been released in this northern burg! Geez! Now I'm all frustrated! It says it's still "Wild". It's bugging me, now. Wherever can it be? It was released last September.........hmmmmmmmmmm...

What a great idea indeed. It is nice that there is a "regulated" and traceable channel for this. I once tried to do something similar, though not through this site or anything. I left my book and walked away only to be chased down the street by a sweet lady with a walking stick screaming "Excuse me!!! You Forgot your book!!!" If I am to try again I will need to be more crafty. According to the site only one has been liberated in Waterford and that was last September. Think I may have to up the numbers a bit!!!

I told you above that my coworkers were getting into this, too. One of them was cleaning off her bookshelf the other day and brought me 5 books to release.
I've released 3 of them so far and have already had one picked up by someone. This person was so nice; he/she gave a descriptive account of where he/she found it, where he/she was headed next and what he/she was going to do the book next.
It's so exciting to get feedback that someone's picked your book up and is enjoying it!
I love that the site is free - I think that's important to a lot of people. And, it really makes it a way of readers getting to share their books with each other - like a world-wide library.
Is anyone else setting any books free these days? What kinds of experiences are you having with them?
Anyone "go hunting" for a book (see the website)? Have you actually found one in your area that was dropped off by someone?

I tried it many months ago but gave up on it as only one of my many books was ever "caught." It began to feel like littering...

Thanks a lot, Linda, for bringing this up again. I´ve never heard of this before and I´m absolutely excited. I actually saw that some books were released in a town close to where I live, and I´ll go there tomorrow anyways. So I´ll see if I can hunt one down That´s why I love FT. You hear about the coolest stuff here

If you happen to find one, let us know! It's fun to see someone actually find one of the books! And, also be sure you log it in if you do find one. The person before you will get a thrill out of seeing that someone's found it.

You'll have to report back when someone picks up your book(s)!

Ever since I told my sister about this, she's gone totally crazy and drops books everywhere. I don't think she has any books left! She told me not to leave them at the supermarket though, because they'll end up in the lost and found department. I bet one of these days I'll run into one of her books...

Tell her that that's ok, too. People are constantly going through lost and founds, and someone can still pick up your book. The only problem with leaving them at a store is not that but that anyone picking it up may not be able to leave the store without paying for the book, as the store won't know that it's not theirs.

That's one reason I've learned to check the sale tables and my library (they often have older books that they're trying to get rid of for 50 cents or so)! That way, I'm not setting my own free, but I'm still getting to participate in the fun!
