Does all this sound normal to you? I've never used PayPal before.

It looks like you have signed up for paypal but have not yet made payment. If you are paying by credit card and you're from the US, you dont need to explicitly create a paypal account. Just click on the paypal icon when it's presented and follow the instructions. If you are using eChecks, then yes, you need to create an account, verify your email address, and tie a checking account to your paypal account.

Terry, there are three of us in my family and we all like to access Funtrivia. (I finally got my husband hooked!). Is there a family rate for gold membership? I looked at the site you mentioned but I didn't see anything about it.

Unfortunately there is no such rate yet. I would have to create a new system to handle that, and if there's enough demand I will eventually do that. Until then we only have individual memberships.

how did I end up with a PayPal account? I really didn't want that, but only wanted to sign up for Gold membership. I stated from the link you mentioned:

If start over again, will I wind up with two PayPal accounts?

It automatically creates a paypal account for you if you dont have one already. It doesnt matter though, because the paypal account is free. Are you trying to pay by credit card, or eCheck?

That's odd - I've never heard of a 'membership' fee. Try contacting Paypal about this - there should be contact informaiton somewhere.

Before I can send FunTrivia any money, I apparently have to get my account "verified" by entering my bank info:

I already gave them my credit card number. Does all this sound normal?

That's really odd.. The only time I had to do that was to get my checking accoutn verified (which I never ended up verifying!)

Root 17, don't panic! I just created an account with this company to get gold membership. They take the money off but credit it back to your account once you confirm that you are who you are and the credit card is yours - it's just a formality and a way to check you out! Upon your first transaction, they tell you you will be credited the $1.95.

PS: I used a credit card that I can access the account of online, so that I could see my credit card statement online and therefore get membership details quickly.

Oh root, are you outside the US? The process is slightly more complicated for non-US people unfortunately.

Terry, I subscribed to Gold Membership last night using the PayPal system (my sister used her PayPal account if that is relevant - I don't have one myself - my sister btw is Flapjack44).

We have got a PayPal receipt by e-mail, saying a subscription has been purchased and it had your name on it so it was definitely related to FunTrivia, but when I logged back on to FunTrivia, it was still standard membership. I logged on and off a couple of times and it still isn't working.

What do I do?

After exploring around PayPal some more, I think the problem is I have to enter a four-digit member number to activate my credit card (which is on their records), but I won't get that number until my next credit card statement arrives in the mail (it'll be printed next to the $1.95 PayPal charge). I'm curious how the other people at FunTrivia got Gold membership so fast. Did they go through all this?

root: that sounds very odd. The process you are describing is required for people outside of the US. Im not sure why you are being told to follow it. US subscribers don't have to do any of that. Hmm.

Terry, when I access the PayPal "Send Money" screen to sign up for Gold membership, they want me to enter the e-mail address of the person I am sending to. Should I just enter: Gold@funtrivia.com or something else?

I see that you managed to get it sorted out. http://www.funtrivia.com/gold.cfm is where players should go to sign up. Sending from paypal directly bypasses the subscription system.
