I looked but...maybe not hard enough? Where's the thread where you list and describe recent music purchases?

Hi Wrenaz, I suppose you can start one here, no problem. We had a few. Just remember not to put in links to websites, but to tell us why you like them...we can Google it ourselves if we're interested. It's not really the occasional link we're bothered with, but encouraging people who do this sort of thing for a living and don't even wish to discuss music with us, but just stick links in sites all over the place for advertising.
I haven't bought anything forever....I'm thinking of increasing my celtic collection as I'm traveling through Scotland soon. My car was stolen two years ago and I had some tapes in there that I loved...
So what'd you get?

Funny you should mention that Heather, I'm a on a Celtic music frenzy right now. I have aout 15 different versions of Whiskey in the Jar, my husband could do without at least 12 of them The most recent Cd I bought is Counting Crows "Hard Candy" I have to let this one sink in gradually as I do with all Counting Crows albums, so it's too soon to tell how much I like it. I have a very odd approach to listening to Counting Crows. I just won the new Vines Cd from an internet radio station, it is pretty good too.

No problem about putting in links, I'm too lazy to get around to putting them in. I bought a cd last Sat. It's by Jerzee Monet "love & war". I'd never heard of her before, the cover looked cool and I felt adventerous. It's pretty good. I'd say she has elements of Jill Scott, Res, and Kelis in her music. My favorite songs are the ones where she sounds real and sings from her soul. I haven't decided if I'll forgive her yet for putting a duet with Ja Rule on the album. What's up with that? Man, he really gets around. It seems like every up and coming female singer has to sing with him. Is there some sort of initiation rite I'm not aware of?

This weekend I finally got Rasputina's "Cabin Fever". They're an amazing fusion of Victorian, neo-goth, cello-rock. Forget the labels, they have their own unique sound. I don't think it's even possible for trendy drones to copy their stylized sound. This album has more songs with a hard edge than the last two. While I love the music more on this one, I think Melora sings better on "How We Quit the Forest". Still, definitely worth having. I'm quite pleased. If you're open to new experiences and are into exploring musical boundaries, check out Rasputina.

Beth Orton --Daybreaker
The first time I just skimmed thru it and I was kinda dissapointed. It left me cold. A couple days later I put on my headphones and listened to it all the way thru. And then I listened to it again and I fall in love with it more each time I hear it. If somehwere out there Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell had a magical love child, Beth Orton would be the result. There were a few songs on Central Reservation that I absolutely loved but, it seemed like the album overall was one big blur where everything sounded the same. This album is a lot more sophisticated and subtle than the last. Some songs feel etheral and others have a lite bluesy vibe and the rest have folk-like roots. Emmylou Harris sings backup on one track. Ben Watt from Everything But the Girl helped produce and mix the album. The Chemical Brothers also worked on it. (hence etheral reality)

Um, should I be admititng this? I've been trying to keep up with the backlog of all the old cds I haven't got yet. At the moment my aim is to have the entire Elvis Costello catalogue by the end of the year. Not really liking my chances, but that's pretty much been what I've been listening to recently....

Injected Burn It Black I got this a couple weeks ago, kind of a compulsive buy. I'd only heard one song but, it put butterflies in my stomach. Really great rock. I love FUEL and Incubus, Injected is kinda from the same school of rock. I'm not gonna get on my soapbox about the state of rock right now. Ummm...maybe for one sec pure crap. I haven't heard a rock album that was consistantly good in a long time. Bravo Injected.

Just so you all don't think I think everything is great, amazing, awesome or kickass. Wouldn't want to nullify my opinions. It's not like I know anything about the technical aspects of music. Shoot, I can't even sing on key (that much I DO know, hehe) . I'm just your average schmoe who knows what she likes. Having said that...
Bonfire Madigan ...from the burnpile
Pure crap. What a mistake. I can't believe I spent money on this. Not what I was expecting at all. Ok, no more compulsive shopping for me. For the record, there can only be one PJ Harvey. Clones need not apply.
Hey, Cahyay, where are you? I was chomping at the bit over Jeff Ferrar but, I left him alone knowing you could do him more justice than lil' ol' me. lol
