What is this "GM Ranks" thing that appeared in my profile? cool Something new and wonderful? Is it a set of badges or is it something else? (I'm guessing not badges, or else it wouldn't be a separate tab). smile

I liked it too! Looks like a neat addition to my pile of FT factoids. wink

Then I looked at the profiles of two of my team mates and I'd rather be them. grin

Hey, when I made my original post, there was nothing under the tab but the words "Coming Soon" or something like that.

Very nice collection of stats in this beta stage. Looking forward to the final product!

Question: right now I am ranking vs all players over the past 25 years.

I was considering though ranking only against players who have been active over, say, the last year, or something like that. The idea would be to show ranks vs players who care enough to still play.

Thoughts? Should we rank vs historical, or more recently active users only?

How about just having both in two columns? Although, for many criteria, I doubt the difference will be significant once you're high enough. There won't be many inactive players in the top 500 or so for badges or upgrades for example simply because many of those were added recently.

If only one of the two can be shown, I definitely prefer all-time over a "recent" filter - it allows more opportunity to progress as you step over inactives.

Hm interesting thought on being able to step up over inactives. I'd like to keep it to just one ranking for simplicity and to have just one ladder to climb up.

I guess the one concern is that new players have no chance at the tops of the current rankings.. although Im going to add a set of "recent" rankings like "Highest score in X this month", etc, which new players have an equal chance at.

There could always be several selectable views, such as comparing to players from the same join year (we have that "only players after you" in an old points page for example). "Recently active" wouldn't really fix the plight as the new players would still be way behind currently active veterans - in fact, they'd have more trouble advancing in that scenario as there are few or no inactives they could hope to pass.

If not getting (decent) ranks as a newish player, is a concern, maybe the 2000 limit could be extended on a weekly basis, so that, for example, everything based on quizzes would be checked down to 25,000 on Mondays (but only to 2000 on the other days), everything related to hourlies on Tuesdays, etc. That way, newer players could see progress while still keeping the performance impact manageable.

I've increased all stats to top 4000 without much of a performance hit... let's see how that goes.

It's fun looking around for more stats to add smile

Ok, feel free to suggest any other "Rank" categories that you think we should add.

Some may not be possible if the data doesn't exist.

Wow, Kyle! You're #1!!!
Code:
Chat Board Activity 2883 chat credits	# 1
Top Rated Authors 1133 quizzes	# 1
Most Quizzes Authored 2335 quizzes	# 1

And now a question for Terry: How are chat credits determined? Is it one credit per post, or something more complicated.

You can find this info on the top of each relative GM stat page. For the Chat:
"A player earns a chat board activity credit for every day that a post of theirs appears on at least one chat board. Here are the biggest chatterboxes!"

It was done like that to avoid encouraging spamming. Kyle has posted on the chat boards on 2883 different days. And counting. Lol

How often are these stats supposed to update?

I notice that it says updated daily at the top of the page but a couple that I follow have not updated so wondering if it is actually less frequent or if there is a glitch. (The two I've noticed are Daily Challenges: Most Complete and Total FT Points.)

Kyle, you have an excuse as a very active admin person. I am embarrassed to find myself at #24 with no such excuse. (And I always thought I was the strong, silent type). I'm going to have to learn to zip the lip, house the mouse, etc.
