The game uses a specific dictionary that has a lot of unusual words, but not always words that you would expect from consulting other dictionaries. It probably has waistcoat listed as a noun, though. As the page where you submit words says, not all inflected/derived forms will be found - in this case, the derived adjective must not be included. I regularly have 8 or 9 letter words that aren't there, and have to settle for a 7.

I'm sure everyone who plays that game has encountered Blaster's problem because the dictionary used is garbage. I've largely stopped playing the game as a result.
Instead of endless badge upgrades, how about putting some time and effort into using a real dictionary? In my view it is the single most important improvement that could be done on this site.

Please don't twist my words; nowhere did I call Terry's efforts garbage, just the dictionary. Terry's efforts are great.

Samak, there are only a small handful of dictionaries that a site can use without needing to pay license fees.

Of course, you are cordially invited to find a "real dictionary" that is

(a) completely free to use without any restrictions or license fees
(b) free of objectionable words that would otherwise have to be manually curated away
and
(c) easily imported into the database to replace what you call the "garbage dictionary". This probably means a field-delimited format to separate the actual word from any additional information (such as inflected forms or the definition).

Once you find one, feel free to contact Terry and/or myself with a download link.

Edit: For your information, I have already done a very similar search a few years ago when Crystal Ball first premiered. The one dictionary I could find that would meet the above three criteria was, as far as I could ascertain with some cross-checking of words, either the exact same as the one used by FunTrivia or very similar. It definitely did yield the exact same hit/miss pattern on the maybe 20 inflected forms I checked.

Thanks for the explanation Wesley. I guess we'll just have to live with it.

I was trying to use that word in the word wizard game I know it doesn't make a difference I just see that the Crystal Ball game was mentioned just thought I would make it clear what game I was playing.

As far as I know, both games use the same word list.
