Liverpool continue to win, though the wins are no longer as fluent as they were sometime back. They got the better of Brighton this weekend for their 13th win of the season. Leicester City needed a stoppage-time goal to beat the luckless Everton and stay second, 8 points behind Liverpool. This was the 6th win in a row for Leicester City. Both the Manchester teams were held to frustrating draws this weekend. City away at Newcastle, and United at home against Aston Villa. Tottenham eked out a second consecutive 3-2 win, this time at home against Bournemouth, while Chelsea succumbed to a second loss in a row, losing at home to West Ham.
We have divided ourselves into three neat groups here. The top 2 are running away on their own, a good 5 points ahead of a bunch of us separated by 3 points. From there another 4 points separates a smaller group at the rear. KrivoyRog is so far behind, he's lost sight of the rest of us and probably decided to extend his holiday further.

Liverpool hammered Everton to keep their blistering pace on, but Leicester won too, and so did Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.....there were no draws in the mid-week round as seven home and three road teams won. Two of those road wins were "upsets" that none of us here saw coming....both Arsenal and Sheffield United lost, to continue a miserable run for the Gunners this season.
Despite those two misses, six of us here picked a winner's medal this round with a nice 7/10. Fifiona81 takes the spoon for the round and tumbles down the ladder.

Liverpool ensured they will go into Christmas as the leaders and 8 of the last 10 times a team went into Christmas as leaders, they won the premiership...the 2 exceptions? Liverpool themselves 
Leicester City stays eight points behind the leaders after winning their last eight Premier League games in a row - their best-ever winning run in their top-flight history. Elsewhere, Sheffield United are still unbeaten away from home this season (W2 D6), their longest run without defeat from the start of a top-flight season since 1899-1900 (10 games). Arsenal broke their nine-game winless streak with a come-from-behind win over West Ham, while Manchester United won the Old Trafford Derby, pushing the 2-time defending champions further behind the leaders....no team in the history of the English top flight has ever gone on to win the title after slipping as far as 14 points behind the league leaders at the end of a day's play.

The topsy-turvy form continues for most teams in this season of the Premier League. Chelsea lost at home to Bournemouth, Manchester United and Leicester City were both held to draws at home by Everton and Norwich respectively. These 3 "shockers" meant we were essentially fighting for 7 points this round. Liverpool continued to salvage our season by winning yet again. They are now 10 points clear of Leicester at the top and Manchester City is a further 4 points behind. After that there's a full 6 points gap to Chelsea in 4th place....guess nobody really wants that 4th place at this point in the season 
paper_aero, Howie72 and LeoDaVinci did well to score 6 from the 7 remaining games to take the round's honours, while srini701 had a disaster and takes his second spoon in a row. N-Bomb, gtho4 and PaulE are still spoonless, while ozzz2002, dg_dave and the now default KrivoyRig are still looking for their first medals of the season as we approach the half-way mark.

Thank you, Sypher and Howie72, for information about the postponed game...I would have waited...and waited...for that result without posting these So, Liverpool didn't win this weekend, robbing us all (other than ozz2002) of a point. Watford scored only their second win of the season, beating a frustrating Manchester United. Manchester City are doing their best to keep pace with Liverpool and Leicester, and moved to within a point of Leicester by beating them. Chelsea trumped Tottenham and brought Mourinho down to earth a bit. Everton and Arsenal continued their own horrible season, playing out a goalless draw, while Sheffield continued their own Cinderella run in the premier league...they are up to 5th spot now and are still unbeaten on the road...half way through the season!
It's half way through our comp and we are continuing our own frustrating, mediocre run...nobody has touched 100 points yet (at the same stage last season, N-Bomb had 113 points, gtho4 had 109, and 9 of us had scored 100 points).....ozzz2002 scores his first win for the season, leaving dg_dave the only active tipper looking for a win still. Three people are still going spoonless.

There is no stopping Liverpool this year. They hammered their nearest rivals Leicester City and are 13 points clear now, with a game in hand. Chelsea slumped to a shock defeat to Southamptom three days after beating Tottenham. Manchester United and Tottenham managed wins and there was a much-needed win for Everton too. Arsenal continue to be frustrated, held this time by Bournemouth.
We all chose Manchester City, so I have awarded a free gimme point to us all instead of waiting for that match to be played N-Bomb, Dizart and Fifiona81 take the round's honours (Dizart's 4th in last 6 rounds) while Sypher adds to his spoon collection. There were 3 defaults last round, probably due to mid-week, post-Christmas celebrations...

Liverpool finish the year with a 13-point lead at the top of the Premier League a narrow and controversial win over the Wolves. Liverpool are now unbeaten in 50 home league games, winning 40 and drawing 10 of those games at Anfield. It is only the third time any side has gone 50 or more home matches without defeat in English top-flight history, after Chelsea (86 between 2004 and 2008) and Liverpool (63 between 1978 and 1980) {stat courtesy BBC}.
Meanwhile, defending champions Manchester City will start the new year 14 points behind Liverpool after they put an end to the stirring road record of Sheffield United. Sheffield suffered their first away defeat in any competition since January 2019, ending a run of 18 consecutive games without a loss on the road. Elsewhere, Chelsea won at Arsenal, becoming the first side to win 5 consecutive games at Arsenal. Arsenal have now lost 4 in a row at home, the first time they have done so in all competitions since December 1959. Arsenal haven't won at home since 6 October.
Everton continued their silent climb up the ladder, winning at Newcastle. They are unbeaten in 5 games (W3, D2). Tottenham were frustrated in their draw at Norwich while Watford and Brighton had a successful weekend too.
N-Bomb stretches his lead here by another point after another medal winning round. He shares the round's honours with toocool4u (up to second spot now) and Fifiona81, who's made it 2 in a row too. Howie72 takes his fourth spoon of the season.

The New Year did not bring much joy to Manchester United or Tottenham as they both lost....Wasn't a great start to the year for Chelsea either after they were held. Leicester City and Manchester City both won, though, and Watford continue their new found resurgence.
I am a good guy I gave a free "gimme" point to us all a couple of weeks back for a Manchester City game (which they promptly lost the next day)....I decided to award us all another free point this time for the Liverpool game (to be played January 3)...let's see if I can stop/jinx them if teams on the field can't 
5 of us won the round's honours with a measly 4/9 (add a free point), and another 4 of us took the spoon with just 2/9. 3 people defaulted the round following their New Year celebrations...

Southampton got their "revenge" for the 9-0 tharshing at the hands of Leicester a few weeks ago, by beating them 2-1 in the reverse fixture. Manchester City hit Aston Villa for a six and are now back in second place. Liverpool meanwhile continue their relentless streak, and beat Tottenham this week. Chelsea and Manchester United won too, and so did Watford, which moves them out of the bottom 3 for the first time this season!
We all picked two games and missed two, and 4 of us got 7 right out of the remaining 8 to take the honours. wwe84 takes the spoon for the round.

Liverpool continues to save our woeful season. They are well on their way to win their first premiership title in 30 years after opening up a 16 point lead at the top. They comfortably outclassed Manchester United even as the other results all went all over the place... Manchester City have only themselves to blame for their draw against Crystal Palace at home, Newcastle stunned Chelsea, while Burnley shocked Leicester City. Arsenal and Tottenham were held too...
Three shockers (Man City, Chelsea and Leicester) meant we were all fighting for 7 points. N-Bomb and gtho4 scored 2/10 and STILL didn't get a spoon  LeoDaVinci, dg_dave and toocool4u ensured our leaders kept their spoonless season going one more round with their 1/10 horror round. Five of us take the round's honours with 4/10 as we hit a collective 28%, comfortably our worst for the season to date ... and Liverpool alone accounted for 28% of all our points this round

Manchester City played their first match since the shock ban from all European competitions for 2 years, and showed no signs of stress....yet...Liverpool continue to march on, and have already become the first team in Europe to qualify for the UEFA Champions League...for next year! Manchester United beat Chelsea away, while there were wins for Arsenal and Tottenham too, over this round spread over two weeks...
Three matches were picked by all of us here, and our roller-coaster of a season continues...from 54 last round, we almost doubled our score this round to 101! Five of us take the round's medals with a high of 8/10, while wwe84 takes the spoon with 4/10...Dizart, one of the round's winners, is already well double digits for the HOFs ...and we are only 2/3rd of our way into the season!

Home teams had a field day with 8 of them winning. Liverpool tied Manchester City's record of 18 consecutive wins beating West Ham. City themselves were the only road team to win over the weekend, beating Leicester City. Manchester United moved to fifth place after they won and Tottenham lost to Chelsea.
N-Bomb and Dizart almost made it a perfect round for themselves and take the round's honours as we collectively hit over 72% this round. dg_dave takes his spoon collection closer to double digits.

N-Bomb and gtho4 ended their spoonless runs in a spectacular manner, with a grand zero, and completed that column in the table. It was N-Bomb's first spoon in 33 rounds (last spoon in round 33 of last year's comp) and gtho4's first in 30 rounds (last one in round 36 of last year's comp). Things got a lot better for all of us here. We missed only one and picked 3 of the 10 correctly as a group. Manchester United's "double" in the Old Trafford derby was the trickiest to pick with only 2 getting it right. Fifiona81 takes sole honours and becomes the 9th person to win a bonus point this season. Howie72 and Sypher win their 6th spoon each.
Manchester United are now unbeaten in 10 games across all competitions, and are within striking distance of 4th place. Liverpool bounced back from their sudden slump and are now a win away from clinching their first premiership in god-knows-how many years...At the bottom of the table, Norwich have probably resigned themselves to going back to the Championship while at least 4 teams (West Ham, Watford, Bournemouth and Aston Villa) are in a scramble to avoid the other 2 relegation places.

Yes it is....and merits entry into the FT Hall of fame...George, can you help here please? Actually, as only eight games played, it wouldn't qualify for the Hall, unless anyone did it again the following week. Golden Woods are noted on 0/10 or higher.

All remaining FAPL games in March have been postponed. The FAPL is scheduled
to resume on Sat 3rd April. The postponed games will probably be played in May,
