Here is another image from a recent weekend trip to beautiful north Devon. This is one of the two carriages of the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway, the only purely water powered funicular railway in the world.

The company which runs the cliff railway was established by an Act of Parliament in 1888, work on the railway being completed in 1890 with its first operations taking place on Easter Monday of that year. Each car has a maximum capacity of forty passengers. The trip takes around three minutes to travel the 800 feet between the two towns.

Ohh How lovely! Thanks for that.
My parents spent their honeymoon in Lynton and Lynmouth!
That railway is a wonderful sight to see!

Just look at this beeeeautiful 1966 Volkswagen Type 3 1500cc 'Notchback'...

My other half caught me lusting after her at the 'Dubs on the Green' event in Paignton yesterday; she was for sale and fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your viewpoint), my partner came back with pizza slices before I could close the deal with her current owner! whistle

That's what cars should look like, similar to the Renault Floride of the same era.

Satguru: "Great Malvern. They were locked."
So those would be public inconveniences, then?

Yes, most public toilets not demolished or turned into shops are locked as the councils want to save money. I think people's health comes first but I'm old fashioned (I am nearly 60).

Countryside west of Reading.

Golders Green bus and tube station, where I got the bus and often train home from school from 1969-76 and met all my friends also doing the same thing for far longer.

Another remnnant from my childhood. This wasn't my first crossroads discovered, but the sign itself under the film of grime looked new, although it should be at least 55 years old. It's at the entrance to Batsford Arboretum in the Cotswolds.
