Back when I did Tom Petty's "You Got Lucky" I mentioned the post-apocalyptic theme of the video. Well, this next one *definitely* has a post-apocalyptic theme, both video *and* lyrics. Here's Tina Turner with "We Don't Need Another Hero": https://tinyurl.com/uywg9mwNow, if Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome isn't post-apocalyptic, nothing is. Just look at Tina Turner's outfit here.

Some time ago (when I was discussing the "psychedelic" nature of The Steve Miller Band's "Abracadabra" video, I mentioned that I hadn't even scratched the surface of 80s video weirdness: I hadn't done a Peter Gabriel video yet. Well, when looking at music videos, they range from the generic "band playing the song" up through various degrees of innovation and special effects all the way up to the extremely abstract. I prefer videos somewhere in the middle of that spectrum, but I have sampled some at numerous points within it. But there is still the Peter Gabriel end of the spectrum. Time to show it. If you suffer from video-induced epileptic seizures, you may want to steer clear of Peter Gabriel, especially this next one. Here's Peter Gabriel with "Sledgehammer": https://tinyurl.com/vso4mbmWhenever I feel the need to wake people up in the future, I have several more Peter Gabriel videos perfect for that purpose.

Time to introduce another group I haven't featured before. Here is Hall and Oates with their big hit "Maneater": https://tinyurl.com/wvz7qbhA little Cat People vibe to that one. I know the movie wasn't related to this song (a David Bowie song, actually), but it still gives me those vibes. Love the sax.

So I've featured some Phil Collins' work, but not the group he was most famous for being the drummer (and lead singer, after Peter Gabriel left) for: Genesis. Time to remedy that. Here's Genesis with "Land of Confusion": https://tinyurl.com/uay78tpMan! Those are some *ugly* puppets! Still a great video for a great song and reminds me of a lot of 80s history.

Although the Eagles did make it to the 80s, they weren't much for videos. Individual members of the Eagles did quite a few solo songs in the 80s, though. Next up is Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry". Too bad Henley didn't do an official video to go with his terrific song. Oh well, guess I'll have to go with an unofficial one. If there was ever a profession that deserves skewering, it's the media. I'm going to cover Weird Al's take on that in my thread in the Music section of the FT Boards pretty soon, but Don Henley beat him to it by years. https://tinyurl.com/tdp9c7vKick 'em when they're up Kick 'em when they're down Kick 'em when they're in Kick 'em all around

One of the problems with the late 80s was the emergence of alternative rock. Not all alternative rock is bad, but it seems like the strains of it that dominated as the 90s began were choking out the better strains. Grunge rock evolved, which I dislike. Anyway, there was *some* alternative rock that I liked. I enjoyed 10,000 Maniacs, for example. Here's 10,000 Maniacs with "Like the Weather": https://tinyurl.com/wenjvbs

10,000 Maniacs is a good band too. They did a cover of Peace Train.

Thanks for your comments, DireWolf. Been awhile. Yes, I had been aware that Spitting Image provided the puppets in "Land of Confusion". Apparently, it was British TV. I never saw any of it, but it probably was pretty funny.
I liked a lot of 10,000 Maniacs. Problem is, a lot of their stuff was early 90s. Not that I have any problem with that, but I have to try to stick within my own self-imposed bounds here, otherwise, things could get out of control. In particular, I liked their song "These Are Days", but as it was from 1992, I won't post it here.
Alternative Rock was not my thing. But, as it happened, 10,000 Maniacs was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live at some point and they performed "Like The Weather", which is how I became familiar with that song. I have looked for a YouTube link for that, but alas, as I have lamented previously, SNL's "Vintage" segments from the late 80s/early 90s era of Dana Carvey/Phil Hartman/Jon Lovitz et al era is sadly underrepresented. Those were the days. Yes, I remember the original 70s crew and the early 80s Eddie Murphy era also, but it was the late 80s/early 90s era where I was really tuned in to Saturday Night Live.

Yeah, I was watching Eddie do his stuff on there when I was a kid and would stay up as late as I could. But the Phil, Farley and Dana era was classic. Of course they used to show the original ones with Gilda and Belushi back then too. Loraine Newman was a favorite of mine. Let's not forget Father Guido Sarducci.

I never understood the whole "time" concept. I mean it's all relative. One day can feel like a month and a month can fly by in a blink of an eye.

More Berlin. Here's "Take My Breath Away": https://tinyurl.com/vfleslsAh, Top Gun! Which reminds me: I do need to find a place in the rotation for Kenny Loggins somewhere. Let's see ... no, not next time. But I'll get to it when I get a round tuit.

Kenny Loggins can have his own subsection of movie soundtrack songs.
Yeah, I knew Val Kilmer wasn't doing well. Still love him in "Top Secret".
