All right, if you absolutely *must* know the sort of music that started in the late 80s that I liked and continued to like into the 90s (though I have no intention of showing any of their 90s stuff in this thread), then consider REM. More specifically, consider REM's "Stand": https://tinyurl.com/t97buljNow, admittedly, my actual favorite REM songs come from the 90s or even the early 2000s, but I'm not going to break my own rules. Maybe somewhere else I'll have the occasion to get into that.

This is off of Reckoning which is a great record. So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry) https://youtu.be/msWi0c4tHV8

That is one of my favorite bands. Here's an 1980s Talking Heads connection for you. This is the side band of husband-and-wife team Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, both also known for being members of Talking Heads. https://youtu.be/aCWCF19nUhAThis video is better than half of the television shows out there right now. I'd rather watch it!

See, I wouldn't even consider that country music. The song is great though and so is the original video.
She reminds me of some of the artists that came later but have that same feel. Like KT Tunstall or Kacey Musgraves. Country but not country. Some rock and roll thrown in there too.

And still another group I haven't yet featured, Bow Wow Wow doing a cover version of "I Want Candy": https://tinyurl.com/y8xtecs2Yeah, it's a cover. OK, OK, all right! Even though it's not an 80s song, I'll go ahead and provide a link to the original, from The Strangeloves: https://tinyurl.com/yckwoj7bI tried to find one with clearer audio, but they all sounded similar to me. Sorry, gotta go with the 80s cover over the original for this one.

Time for another artist I've not featured here before, this time David Bowie with "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)", from the soundtrack to the "Cat People" movie: https://tinyurl.com/y94tdfqtNormally I don't comment on people behind the scenes on music (usually because I don't pay attention to it), but here I note that Giorgio Moroder is listed as composer and producer for this song. I *did* pay attention to Moroder's score for "Scarface" (which is largely featured on the fake radio station Flashback FM in Grand Theft Auto III) and I have to say I believe Moroder is a very talented guy who hasn't gotten the recognition he deserves. And then there's Nastassja Kinski https://tinyurl.com/ydhyk5hkRowrrrrr!

Let's return for more of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, this time with "Runnin' Down a Dream": https://tinyurl.com/y9wkcdhmThis song was featured in the soundtrack for the fake radio station K-DST in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Another great song to fly around San Andreas in a jet to.

Some time ago when I posted "Take My Breath Away" from Berlin and mentioned it was on the soundtrack to "Top Gun", I also mentioned Kenny Loggins. Time for Kenny Loggins, but not from "Top Gun". No, I'm thinking more "Caddyshack": Here's "I'm Alright": https://tinyurl.com/ycrx2qdgAh, the eternal battle between Bill Murray's "Carl Spackler" and the Gopher. And the Gopher always wins. Like Wile E Coyote vs the Roadrunner. Absolutely hilarious movie, and so well-cast. The sequel? Not so much.
