Hello smilee

This enquiry is in relation to the Twin Challenge requirements in our Individual Daily Challenges:

Could someone please explain to me in VERY simple terms how to get a score for the required number of points by playing timed games?

If the difference in my score and my twin's score needs to be 478, for example, getting multiples of 10 or 5 is easily done by either playing the Quick Quiz or playing so many questions in any quiz (each correct answer worth 15 points).

However, no matter how many times I play a timed quiz and end up with a score ending in 8, when I look at the score awarded for playing that quiz, the final number is 6 or 4 or any number BUT 8.

So, what's the solution to this? I get that Twin Challenge quite a lot (again yesterday) and simply can't match the scores up as required. There has to be an easier way than dividing a score by 12 and turning a somersault etc.

The easiest way is using a mash (or timed mode quiz) and getting exactly one question right.

You get a FunTrivia point for every six points of raw score and the result is rounded. So if you need an 8, you want 48 (6 x 8). Answer wrong (or time out) nine times, then wait until the timer is at the right number to strike. You can afford to be off by 2 either way, so 46, 47, 48, 49 or 50 all work.

If that's still too complex for you, the other - not 100% reliable but usually successful - way is to simply adjust the last digit early by playing timed mode quizzes until the number of points missing is divisible by 5. Then switch to HTML / untimed and quick questions so you won't touch the last digit again. That can of course take a few tries if you're unlucky.

The way Wes describes it is how I play. However I try to get the difference to be a multiple of 5 or 10 early in the matching process by playing a series of timed games to get to somewhere between 100 to 500 points shy of the target score. If I get down to the difference being a multiple of 5, I then play a FC game abd deliberately get one wrong to give me 135 points. I am now a multiple of 10 away. I use the Brain Twist and Bus Ride to get me 200 points or Heroes and TvT ( the latter soon RIP) to give me 100 points to get within a hundred. I then use the quick quiz to get down the last 30-90 points (NB you need to get three quick quiz qs correct to bank the minimum 30 points)

If I have to use timed quizzes, here are plenty of 5q mixed quizzes in general where I try to get the required score in the first question. having only 5q means you have decreased chance of NOT picking the wrong answers for the remaining questions

It was much easier when we had Instaquiz

Then the next logical question is, is there a way to bring back Instaquiz that does not involve Flash but rather some other technology?

I think it has already been stated before in previous discussions on this matter that bringing back Instaquiz just to grease the wheels on this one daily challenge is not going to happen.

the topic mash method Wesley describes is really no harder. It is far harder to describe in few words than to perform and if if is simply practiced a few times (even when not tied to the challenge...just to et a feel for the scoring it generates.) I think you would find it about as easy as instaquiz was.

Even if you have qualms about purposely missing answers to doctor a score....there are other ways to get there. It is afterall, a difficult challenge. We just found a shortcut which turns it easy.
