I see a slightly odd issue on the horizon in Crystal. We are rapidly approaching the point where HurricaneBill is going to drop out of the top 10 and thus his name will not be visible on the front page anymore.

I feel his memorial is worthy of preservation, but it has been over five years since his passing and it may be slightly confusing for new players who see the icon for his retired mini badge with no conspicuous explanation. I suggest either making the hurricane image a clickable link...or put in a drop down expansion akin to the "game details" section that is available on most games. Either one could feed to the hurricane badgelet page or to a brief tribute explaining Bill was the earliest champion of the game, both in terms of successful play and his friendly and helpful disposition toward other players.

I do like making the hurricane image a clickable link. Even now, there is no explanation on the Crystal page, as to what it signifies. He was so very supportive of others, and embodied the essence of good sportsmanship. It would be unfortunate if his legacy was inadvertently hidden.

I totally agree. It would be a fitting tribute to Bill, who was a true champion and always supportive of others, it would be good for his legacy to live on.

I think this is a good idea, and would probably not be hard to do? Wes?

I can't do anything on the game pages itself. Those can only be edited by Terry.

Editing the game page to explain the Crystal Pyramid is nice. But that mini badge isn't Hurricane Bill's legacy. His legacy was his politeness. His legacy was sending congratulatory notes to winners new to the game. His legacy was never leaping to "They must be cheating!" when another player also did well.

If we want to preserve Bill's legacy, we need to behave as Bill did.

Hmm. I thought maybe bringing up the Hurricane badge page would be an easy way to do it instead of building it from scratch. Looking at the challenge text it does talk exclusively about game accomplishments and not Bill's character. Still, a slight edit to the text of that page might do the trick.

I agree that emulating Bill's way would be the best way to honor his memory. You can't force people to be nice though. All you can do is show them the path. It is their choice whether to walk it or not.

If someone who knew Bill well wants to write a proper memorial text for him, I will put it into the challenge page. Please PM the text to me. I never had contact with him myself, so I wouldn't be a qualified speaker.

(Note: Please don't post any draft texts on the forum - it wouldn't be dignified if a wording were possibly to be subjected to a debate.)
