I had this quiz on Brain Twist today and I am recommending that it be removed. The quiz presumed use of Alta Vista Babel Fish which has been defunct for several years. Alta Vista was at one time a popular search engine before Google had locked up search engine hegemony by winning the search engine wars. Therefore, it should no longer be included in Brain Twist.

I disagree. The quiz is perfectly playable without the use or even knowledge of Babelfish - it is a viable Brain Twist. The introduction could use a bit of rewording to state that Babelfish is defunct but that's all. The idea that the sentences were mangled by multiple layers of machine translation is quite clear.

Next time, please send something like this as a correction note on the quiz, that way editors can check it directly.

Oh, I forgot about that. I will send a note next time. I agree it's playable, but as far as getting all 10, that's another story.

I got 8 replaying it today, missed the first and the last one. On the last, I had the right hunch but couldn't think of a mistranslation that would give that result, first one was simply not thinking of the correct name.

I got 7, and one of those was just a typo on my part. And I never play Brain Twist, am not too good at them.

It would certainly be a better quiz with some follow-up in the info as to what the reasoning might have been behind the translations, but we have plenty of old sub-standard quizzes online, this is just another. It's playable, and some people might even like it.

I'd say give it a "poor" rating, if you want, and that's enough.

If we could actually rate the Brain Twist... if you want to rate, you have to find the quiz the next day and replay it.

"Sub-standard" sounds a little harsh to me to describe this quiz. I have played it before (a long time ago I think), and I enjoyed it. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but some folks do like it, as agony pointed out!

I saw this topic yesterday and out of curiosity played the quiz, getting 8 right. I liked it and rated it well, in my opinion it was clever, imaginative and amusing. It's only natural that not everyone will like every quiz and opinions will differ, but I personally enjoyed it very much

Hmm, I don't understand the original request. The playing of this quiz requires no knowledge of altavista at all, that is simply the backdrop. So why would it be removed?
