I understand what you are saying. Would the recommendation be to stop guests from playing the quizzes and have them create accounts to do so (and submit the score to win it anyways)?

In your first message you made if clear that as a paying member this is an issue. The vast majority of our players are not paying. We aim to bring our guests in to become members. If you're recommending that our guest players sign up upon completion of a daily/hourly to get the score to count, then that's a bit of a different ask...but it would mean being bumped down by them all the same.

What about a separate tier for unregistered users so they are not competing against the regular users?

Imagine if someone like Ken Jennings or Brad Rutter (two of the top all time Jeopardy contestants) decided to play here as a guest and demolished everyone in Division 1 in some of the hourly games because they really belonged in Division 5 or 6 but got put into Division 1 with no chance of moving to a more appropriate division until they were no longer a guest?

That being said, why haven't we recruited Ken or Brad or Jeopardy James Holzhauer to participate on this site? :-)

There must be some way as Andy suggested to separate these players who are not playing for badges or upgrades so players that are can receive points.

Blaster.
We understand what a Guest player is. To win an hourly game that Guest players can play, you need to score higher than them. You need to oobtain the highest score in the game. End of story.

Who are you to say that it's the end of the story when I played got second to a guest I wasn't a winner nobody was but this got second and his score was lower then the guest and got declared the winner so I think TERRY needs to do something about this. But thanks for your comments no matter how wrong I think they are have a nice night.

By "End of story" I meant there really is no more to explain it. In no way did it mean "stop posting about this issue you care so much about".

Blaster, the person with the highest score wins the game. If it is a Guest, then a registered FunTrivia player cannot be listed as winner or earn win points. The registered player did not win.

Some hourly games and all Duel topics are open to Guest players. People wander over to this corner as the Internet, play some games as a Guest, maybe they win a few of those games. They decide "Hey, I like this website!". Then they decide to become a registered player.

Keep playing the best you are able. That way you will beat a Guest's scores. Playing better will also put you in a higher level. You won't encounter those Guest players in the higher levels.

Did I just read that Duels are open to Guests, those that are Just Visiting?

Blaster's point is that it does not seem to be consistent across all games - an example was provided of a game for which a Guest had the best score, but a member was subsequently listed as the winner. Yet in another game the member who came second was NOT listed as the winner.

Without seeing all the intricacies of the games from backstage, none of us can explain why it seems to be so. There may be some explanation of the seeming discrepancy that we don't know about. What we can all do is just play the various games and accept that they score the way they do. It doesn't even matter if different games apply different rules (there are already significant differences in, for example, time penalties), as long as each individual game is applying its rules consistently.

All the games have had different rules than the others at one point in time. It's been like that since the beginning. smile

That's right and I am the player who didn't get credit for the win or the points when the other player did so I thank you all for your comments and I know the powers to be won't do nothing so I'm getting tired of this subject as you all are of hearing about it so let's hope they do something about it instead just ignoring it.

I agree with blaster. Guest scores should not be part of regular or gold member play, or show up in our duels score tallies. They should be in a completely separate category and not be intermingled with registered players' scores.

Nothing has changed about the Duels. You, terraorca, know that the Duel topics are merely topic mashes. Any Guest player can play a topic mash at any time during the day. One of Friday's Duel topics was The Unexplained. A Guest could have played that game any time on Friday.

As you, terraorca, know Guest players have never been paired up with Duel players. After player a Duel, the player has the option of seeing all the Duel scores for that topic. However, if you look up the same topic in the category directory and look at the topic mash scores for the day, you will see Guest player scores listed, providing a Guest has played that topic during the day. For reasons I wasn't able to understand, a vocal group of Duel players thought having
Guests play Duel topics and having the Guests scores listed was unfair somehow.

By the way, in games where guests can score they'll always be in division 1. So once you run up some good results (they don't have to be wins), you'll go to 2 or higher and not have the problem again.

Will it be possible to sort an author's quizzes by category?

Filter might be more useful than sort (since you'd still be searching for a long time for Kyle's Literature quizzes for example - somewhere in the middle of the list)

Unless it's a Stephen King quiz-- those are highly-rated. wink

To add though-- I love the idea.

If it were sorted by category, the rating wouldn't help. It would be somewhere between a lot of Entertainment and an even bigger LOT of TV and VG smile

I second the suggestion to install a filter/sort routine for quizzes by a (prolific or epic) author).

Technically it would be probably easier to program it for any author, but the use of this sort or filter routine would be quite limited for someone who has not authored more than say a dozen quizzes yet.

If I had the access to code anything, it would be a feature for years smile

It's one of the things (along with per-category stats for an author so I can more easily pick someone to be a fan of) that would really be at the very top of the "quality of life" list for me.
