NEW CHALLENGES ADDED!

*** All Thumbs Challenge

For Gold Members. Normal people would probably take offense at being called "all thumbs", after all who wants to be clumsy? But if you're a quiz author at FunTrivia, being "all thumbs" would be the highest possible measure of skill - every single quiz an Editor's Choice. But that would be really, really unlikely.

So we'll settle for this collection of "Editor's Choice" winning quizzes brought to you by the best of FunTrivia's authors between 2014 and early 2021. There's something for everyone and your journey will take you across the best all 20 of our categories have to offer. Enjoy the trip - it's the journey, not the destination.

Thank you to all the editors who regularly work quizzes and highlight the best of the best and extra special thanks to LeoDaVinci for picking this collection from a list of works where it's painful to cut even one.

*** Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Challenge
Open to all members. Did you know that FunTrivia has specially selected quizzes highlighted for use in schools and home education? We hand-picked over 1500 entries to fit all subjects and grade levels from 1 to 12.

You can check them all here or filter them by grade.

To get an idea of what you can find there, let's try out a sampling of our fifth grade offerings. Those should hardly be difficult and you only need to complete 10 out of 12 to pass the exam.

Thanks to editor 1nn1 for selecting the quizzes for this challenge!

*** Water and Oil Challenge
For Gold Members. A new Gold Member scavenger hunt / quiz playing mini-challenge has been added!

Thanks to editor rossian for curating this liquid quiz list!

Not sure what the issue is. I did the first 3 quizzes listed in "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" and the check still says I have 0 complete.

It's probably using the standard check code for scavengers which relies on GM quiz play data instead of the one that works with standard memberships. Terry will need to have a look.

I guess the Quiz-O-Meter challenge isn’t working yet? It said I met the requirements, yet awarded no badge. There are no winners listed either.

A minor point for the Quiz-o-Meter challenge - the closing text on completion refers to a mini badge but it's listed as a full badge.

ADDED: "Winningest" Challenge

Tier 1 - get 1000 win points combined over all hourly games (203 players)
Tier 2 - get 2500 win points combined over all hourly games (92 players)
Tier 3 - get 6000 win points combined over all hourly games (33 players)
Tier 4 - get 12500 win points combined over all hourly games (14 players)
Tier 5 - get 25000 win points combined over all hourly games (6 players)
Tier 6 - get 50000 win points combined over all hourly games (0 players)
Tier 7 - get 100000 win points combined over all hourly games (0 players)

ADDED: "Cool Zooms" Challenge

Team Phoenix Rising was busy during that pandemic! (speaking in past tense out of a sense of optimism, mind you!!). The end esult of their efforts is an impressive list of 52 twenty-question mixed quizzes.

Now it's your turn: Play all of these quizzes, get at least half of the questions right in each one (don't worry, they're mostly easy) and you'll be presented with a special badge commemorating this authoring effort. Oh, it would also be nice if you were to rate all those quizzes as well - they put in a lot of work!

(Oh yeah, since we know you might not always get those 10 right, we're giving you two free shots. So you only need 50 out of the 52. But once you have used those freebies, pay attention or you'll be replaying stuff instead of exploring brand new cool zooms!)

And there's more:

THE GRILL

is a limited edition authoring challenge running until August 31. To claim it (and get one step closer to that evil "20 retired badges" task in "20/20"), you need to write 17 single questions in that time - one for each category.

Oh yeah, it's tiered, so don't stop at one per category.

Tier 1 = 1 question per category
Tier 2 = 2 questions per category
Tier 3 = 3 questions per category
Tier 4 = 4 questions per category
Tier 5 = 6 questions per category
Tier 6 = 8 questions per category
Tier 7 = 10 questions per category

No substitutions allowed - sixteen categories with 50 questions each and one with nine won't get you the crown. So make sure things stay where you want them to be.

Oh, yeah, Video Games questions can be submitted as singles, even though that category does not exist there...

BUT THEY GO INTO ENTERTAINMENT, NOT HOBBIES!!!!

Ahem, sorry. Just had to say that for everyone's benefit. You don't want to miss out on this just because you submitted your brilliant Fortnite mod question to Hobbies.

Missed it before you received the award? Do not fret.
Click to reveal..

So you're the smartest speed word demon wizard to ever fill in the obscurest block in an above average way? Or maybe you are just one of those, but spectacularly so?

Either way, if this description applies to you, you are probably winning games on FunTrivia. And not one or two of them, but at a rate that will make you exhaust the scale of those nifty little "win point" badges and you'd wish for a tier 10, 12 or 14 of those. In fact, that's just what some players did.

Fear not, because here is just what you asked for. Get a thousand win points - twice the tier 7 limit on the highest scaling games and we'll declare you more than just winning. It doesn't even matter if you use one game to get all those points or if you nicely spread them out. It just needs to be a thousand.

Deal? Great.

Not if you were awarded before you could see it... a "See incomplete" button might actually be a good idea, not everyone renmembers what that first half of the story was...

Do the questions need to just be submitted or actually accepted (and if the latter, do they need to be accepted by August 31)? Not that I plan to write bad questions, but one of my more recent submissions was rejected with the comment that it was a good question but would take too long for a timed game.

They have to be accepted by the deadline but editors will know they should check closely on the last few days.

There hasn't been an outright disallowance of VG questions-- they've always gone to Entertainment-- but questions that are about severe minutiae will be sent back and they will likely be unanswerable for a general audience.

I had already played most of these, and wanted to post how much this challenge reflects the best aspects of this site - not only did the team provide much-needed contacts with each other during a trying time, but they also turned it into trivia fun (and learning - I hope everyone takes the time to read all the amazing information) for everyone. Well done Phoenix Rising, and well done Terry.

Credit should also go to Wes for coordinating with Team Phoenix on this one. The quizzes are fantastic!

I encourage other teams to come up with their own challenges or special quiz sets, or whatnot... I am totally open to adding new official challenges based on things teams come up with.

Hello, Interesting challenge movement, so what is going to be the tier 8 reward for the Diamond Dome? I see some challenges have been moved around but the You Graduated tier 8 upgrade has not been added yet? Any update on what is coming? Thanks for any info...

Tier 8 for You Graduated! would be for the Obsidian Tunnels, since tier 7 requires 26 completed Ruby Dungeon challenges. Just adding a tier 8 with the requirement "complete 28 Obsidian Tunnels challenges" wouldn't work with the way the tier layout is now though, since that would force players to complete every single Obsidian challenge, including "Crossword Super Author" and "El Dorado". The same goes for the Diamond Dome (pretty much), with us having to do almost everything besides challenges such as "Ascension" to complete it.

Tier 8? Someone seems to be knowing more than I do here. (And yes, if such a thing as T8 existed, it would be 28 Obsidian challenges for You Graduated. Almost all challenges are designed they can handle a possible future expansion of the tier system.)

If you are referring to the fact that we have eight halls... that's been changed from six a long time, in fact before tiers as such were added.

Also, what movement? I didn't move any challenges around, but the list now defaults to incomplete, so it may be shorter than you're used to.

I'm a little confused with the new challenge "The Grill".

It states "Video Games questions should be submitted under Entertainment, not Hobbies".

Does this mean Hobbies are excluded altogether, or can questions still be submitted there? And if Video Games are to go to Humanities, can a straight Humanities question be submitted as well - or does that then exclude further Humanities?

Because there are 20 categories in quizzes all up, and with Children and Brainteasers excluded (sob), that leaves 18 categories left. If we excluded video games altogether, leaving 17 categories to submit to, is that OK?

(Not that I'm picking on VG, but I'd prefer another Humanities question and a straight Hobbies question to them)

Pat.

Hobbies go to Hobbies. Humanities go to Humanities. You do not have to write a question about Video Games. However, if you wish to write a Video Games question submit it to Entertainment. A more general Video Games question is recommended rather than a very detailed question referring to a specific game.

Yes, you have to write a question for each of the remaining 17 categories. All 17 questions must be accepted by the deadline to win the badge.
