Fantastic Odyssey. The Odyssey took ten years - seems about right.

ADDED: Tiers for Duel's "All Tied Up"
Tier 1 - scored 1 ties in FunTrivia Duel (8324 players) Tier 2 - scored 5 ties in FunTrivia Duel (0 players) Tier 3 - scored 20 ties in FunTrivia Duel (0 players) Tier 4 - scored 60 ties in FunTrivia Duel (0 players) Tier 5 - scored 150 ties in FunTrivia Duel (0 players) Tier 6 - scored 300 ties in FunTrivia Duel (0 players) Tier 7 - scored 500 ties in FunTrivia Duel (0 players)
** We weren't keeping count over 1 tie, so this cannot be retroactive. All previous winners of the badge have credit for 1 tie as of 10/8/2020. This is one of my pet hates because it is unfair to both players. Hope that I don't advance very far!

There is an advantage to playing late as it is right now. If you know the winning score is 15 in 41 seconds, you know you need to be faster than that, so you can adjust your pace accordingly while with a current top of 76 seconds, you might play more cautiously to ensure you get all of them right.
However, in the 20+ years FunTrivia has been around, I haven't seen this as a major factor. Most good players play at any time during the hour, whenever they come online and can catch a game. It may seem that late plays dominate, but that's a rather different effect. If I come on, I will usually check the games first. Now if, at that time, I notice a favorable category in Expert, Smartest or Piece of Cake with just a few minutes to go, I will obviously play that one first in order not to miss it. So, over all my good scores in those games, a higher proportion will be in late minutes than in early ones. But that has nothing to do with sniping / pouncing - it's coming online and being forced to play that game NOW or miss a good category.
Personally, the only game I regularly check scores for before playing is Heroes - but for that one, I don't look at the overall scores but rather at those of my team. Do we have a good run already? In that case I can go all in and try for a massive point haul - a cautious game would not help us any. If my teammates had a lousy run and no one managed a decent score, I'll play more cautiously and try to get at least *something* on the board instead of another dud. But that's only looking at my teammates, not the opposition.
By the way, if "Leader of the Pack" is to be a thing, I would like to make it more pronounced, but not limit it to any particular game. The criteria would be "Be the first player to submit an hourly game and have that score win the hour". First on the board, never beaten. This also makes it less about clock watching - you get a chance or two every 15 minutes. I really like the idea of Leader of the Pack. I do think that sniping in the last few minutes of the Expert game in particular is prevalent and benefits those that wait. I've done it as a strategy mechanism before. The only real benefit of playing early as of now is that you win in the event of a tied score. I've recommended before hiding player scores on hourly games until after the game is finished to discourage sniping. With a Leader of the Pack type badge I'd like to see it upgradable and have it implemented where it'll go to any winning player that submits their hourly game within the first minute the game is available. That way it guarantees a sub-60 second time and doesn't punish someone for submitting their game 2 seconds after someone else with a 1 second better time.

Go check out the new "Challenge Tower". The old one was a little claustrophobic and disorganized. The new one will allow you to sort and filter challenges on a heap of different criteria. Hope you like it... I certainly can't go back to the old one myself! Thanks to Wes for tagging challenges with attributes. https://www.funtrivia.com/mychallenges.cfm

Quick note - those tags were added at quite a quick speed, so there are probably a handful of oversights or misclicks across those 300+ challenges. Please PM me if you notice something that you think is amiss and I'll look at it. Please do NOT make a public post - some assignments are inherently borderline and could trigger endless discussions with neither option really better. So let's avoid that ) If you have a suggestion for a new and useful tag that I missed, please DO reply in this thread however. If it's not immediately obvious, I would appreciate a few examples of what would be in and maybe one or two "just doesn't qualify" so I get a better idea what you are aiming at!

There's a slight bug with the new Challenge Tower and pinned challenges. When you pin a challenge, and then go to the pinned challenge in the regular list and try to expand the tiers, it doesn't expand there, but at the top where it's pinned. Fixed

Added "The Biggest Slice"
McDubb wins the first one! Congrats, McDubb. Terry, the info for the badge needs to be added to Piece of Cake Game Details. I doubt I'll ever win this badge but it is one that has been missing from the hourlies.

The description on Author Rainbow: Sleuth has a typo (unless you're trying to play games with us since that one is for Brain Teasers): "But that alone won't be enough to qualify you as a Seluth." (s/b Sleuth) The links in the mail messages about winning new badges and/or minis go to the list with the old formatting: https://www.funtrivia.com/challenges.cfm, not to the new tower: https://www.funtrivia.com/mychallenges.cfmIs that on purpose, or just something that hasn't been updated yet?

I presume we get all our other author type new badges when there's time to check who's done what? I must have done 30 in the majority of them, but certainly 2 at least. So I'll check again tomorrow. I've been given just the one so far - 30 + in the World. Didn't realise I'd done that many so it was a nice surprise

I've done the data crunch and the tiers from 2nd to 7th will all be shifted upwards a bit. Some of you (myself included ) will wind up a tier lower on Emissary than you have now. However, for all but the 6th and 7th, you'll be able to make it up with just one or two quizzes.

I can't figure out if this is where I should post this. Why can't I put the challenges into alphabetical order anymore? I found that made it easy to see which badges I needed to go for in specific areas. Now, it appears that the only way to get the list is to go through each difficulty level. Is there a way to put them into alphabetical order that I am not seeing? And if there isn't, would you please consider putting it back? Thank you.
