That is true that going with more precision will lead to fewer ties, but it still doesn't mean there will be no ties so some method of tiebreaking is necessary, especially in KO's.
But don’t you all see that if the KO game scored to hundredths of a second like the easy game then the number of ties would then become infinitesimal? So the system for resolving the tie would not require changing.
In the easy game ties are now rare enough and that’s with dozens of players playing a ten question game over the course of an hour. In KO only TWO players play the same game so there would be practically no ties and no overhaul required.
In fact the display could be the same. Look at easy game. The score is still shown as the whole number but the time is shown to 2 d.p. So you would see the tie as, say, 1800-1800 but you would know that the winner had scored more when timed to the hundredth of a second.
As usual, I don’t see the reticence of some to discuss improving a game. In this case just because ties are rare. Ok, so it’s rare! But that doesn’t mean finding a way to either make them even less rare or tiebreak them more fairly isn’t a good thing to do! If Terry says, “you know what, it would be real hard to implement a timer change my time is better spent on more visible site improvements this is way down the priority list”, then that would be fine.
