Brain Teasers are generally discluded from daily/hourly game not just because of their tendency to have specified rules (in their intros) or or be linked to other questions, but because, by and large, they're FITB.

How about using the same category pool as are used for the ** categories in the Global Challenge? Some of those (for example "Colors") end up being pure speed while others (i.e. "Role Playing Games") end up really testing how much you know about the sublect.

Any chance of revisiting this?

The way I think it currently works is heroes cycles through the 14 main categories picking a topic that is reasonably broad every day. It would be lovely to have a 15th day of rotation where it selects from Expert specific topics instead. That would make it suitably infrequent for those that don’t like it and it would not be a multiple of seven in the rotation so it doesn’t mess up anybody’s favourite day to go for other challenges.

Thanks

Bumping this up.

I also forgot in my post a week ago to reiterate my desire to see ‘Sports’ as a category in the rotation for Team Heroes. So adding Sports one day of the rotation and the whole Who’s the Expert specific topic catalogue on the other day would be brilliant in my view.

Wait, do you mean the top-level category 'Sports' in Team Heroes? Don't T.H. games have to be a subcat?

Team Heroes cycles through a topic for selection each day.

So today is from Religion, yesterday was from People, the day before was from Music and so on. Currently Sports is not part of this cycle. I would like it to be and I’d also like a ‘mixed’ day when selection is made from any of the Expert ‘specific’ topics.

Not sure how to make it clearer than that. As long as Terry and Wesley understand I guess that’s all that counts! Haha!

My initial thoughts after reading to this point:

1. I am against adding a new game. The site is rather "thinned out" due to a large number of games as is. I am at the point right now that if a new game is to be added, an existing game needs to be removed. I don't want us diluting player counts so that we end up with 60 hourly/daily games that get played by a tiny number of people each. I actually think we have too many as it is.

2. There doesn't seem to be a compelling reason to change Heroes... I think it's clear that it's not perfect, but any game that caters to "everyone in the world" is of course going to have to make sacrifices in order to cater to as many of those people as possible.

I wouldn't mind adding generic "sports around the world" as a category or something, which asks very general questions about the Olympics, high-level rules questions of cricket, baseball, etc. Frankly though I don't want a single question about college basketball player jersey numbers or 1996 Nascar Sponsors and car numbers in any hourly or daily game. The answers to these things just aren't known by a large enough chunk of the playing population.

The Wide World of Sports category works well in GC. I'm not a huge sports fan and have only a superficial knowledge of American sports, but normally find the questions which come up from that sub-category are accessible.

I was just thinking Wide World of Sports would probably work OK.

I’d be lying if I said this doesn’t disappoint me but I am really glad that you took the time to look at it and give it some thought because I know that tinkering with an existing game must be very low priority compared to developing new challenges and so on for site members to play.

I guess I’ll just have to keep my mouth shut in future because I think I was one of the ones who pointed out some of the original problems with Heroes that you fixed but that also led to the change away from Expert style topics and a more streamlined topic selection being in place..... so I have only myself to blame hahaha.

Now Terry has commented I will put this to bed. To use a commonly used and annoying phrase, “it is what it is”.
