AARGH! I am stumped:

LITERATURE - Name the novel that features Theodore Roosevelt as a main character
trying to solve a series of grisly murders? Bonus for the author?

SPORTS - What is the angle at which a baseball should leave a bat to ensure the
greatest distance? I will accept both ideally without air resistance or
realistically, factoring in air resistance.

The book is The Alienist, and I think the author is Caleb Carr.

Yep, I double-checked and Caleb Carr was the author. By the way, there was a sequel to the Alienist, too.
