Here in the U.S., the CDC has said that everyone who is fully vaccinated can go maskless. But there's no way to tell who is who.

We were issued vaccine cards and places were offering free laminating, giving the impression that we might need to carry these things around and present them as proof. So far, the best I can tell, the only time I ever might need to present this card is to get a free donut at Krispy Kreme and for international travel.

Since becoming fully vaccinated, I go into many more places than I was willing to go before, but I am still wearing a mask ~ because I know there are many maskless, unvaccinated people out there.

Meanwhile, I will sit here and ponder over what cooking for yourself could possibly have to do with getting a vaccine in Hong Kong.

We are in the same boat here in Northern Virginia. This morning, when I went to the grocery store, I saw at least a couple of employees (young people) not wearing masks. They had also changed the notice at the entrance, which now says that masks are "strongly recommended" for the unvaccinated. Here compliance with mask-wearing has been very high in the past year or so, but still this "free for all" is more than a bit concerning for those who are still vulnerable. BTW, today I did not wear my mask while walking to the store, as there was hardly anyone around, but promptly put it on as soon as I reached the store.

Same thing. I think most people are still wearing masks - and the biggest mall is still requiring them (and half the stores I went to had you use their hand sanitizer before they allowed you into the store).

If there's a place not requiring masks, my kids can't go because they're not vaccinated and as the science says, the masks mostly stops you from spreading to others, not as much preventing you from catching it.

Me too, been pondering ever since. I am wondering if it is some sort secret code....

Most stores here still have the "masks required" signs up, but people just ignore them. I'd say maybe 20-25% of the people here are wearing masks now. It seems hasty to start encouraging people to ditch the masks when only 40% of the population is vaccinated, and none of the children.

Mostly masks are worn here, particularly in shops. A couple of times I have forgotten to put one on before leaving my car and walked into the supermarket only to be nabbed by a staff member who handed me a mask to wear, free of charge. Signs in shops tend to say 'No mask, no service'.

The past few days I have worn a face shield instead of a mask, so much easier to breath in this heat (stop laughing Sara) which has been a bit too warm for me.

Here, most people still wear masks in the shops. We also are at 77% of everyone 18 and over have had at least one dose and 48% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

Grrr.

Statistics update:

Since Friday 4 June, 3 individuals have recovered and 10 new cases have been identified. 1 case has been identified through seeking healthcare, 8 cases have been identified through inbound travel and 1 case has been identified through contact tracing.

The number of active cases in the Island is 10.

7 cases are symptomatic and 3 cases are asymptomatic.

Known direct contacts of active cases 131

................................

So of those 7 symptomatic, how many of them travelled - so travelled with symptoms!

I am disgusted that people would travel with symptoms. I would also like to know how many of the people travelling here with Covid had been vaccinated.

Congratulations, agony. I want all Canadians to be vaccinated. My family is planning a gathering for American Thanksgiving and we want our new found (shortly before covid) Canadian cousins to join us and meet more relatives.

Sue, I'm sorry the island's economy has taken precedence over the island being covid free.

My dad's funeral is this summer - he has family just over the border and the latest news is we could go visit them (since we're vaccinated), but they are still unable to come for the funeral (despite they being vaccinated as well).

Thanks - my dad's siblings and kids were able to get together as everyone either had had at least one shot or had had Covid, except my husband and kids. So that was good. But the one this summer will be with the community as well. My dad was a Shriner and a Mason, so they will do a Masonic ceremony as well.

Also, today my Peloton bike came - with Covid, all we could do was take walks but here it gets hot during the summer so it's hard to do much of anything. I have been using my old elliptical but finally decided I wanted to bike as well.

For such a tiny place and bearing in mind that two weeks ago we had 2 active cases, this is scary.

Statistics update:

Since Friday 11 June, 13 new cases have been identified. 1 case has been identified through seeking healthcare, 8 cases have been identified through inbound travel and 4 cases have been identified through contact tracing.

Our Contact Tracing team has been able to identify each positive case back to a known source.

The number of active cases in the Island is 43.

29 cases are symptomatic and 14 cases are asymptomatic.

718 known contacts.

Stand by for a leap in cases here next week, tonight there is a dinner for 500 people. To put it into perspective, the total population is about 110,000. Unbelievable.

That is shocking.

As for me, I am still staying home as much as I can. There are too many people in my part of NY who refuse to get vaccinated.

A news item yesterday rather shocked me. The British and Irish Lions rugby team are in the island for a training session prior to their South African tour (the dinner last night was for them), it was announced that some of them will be having their second vaccination here in Jersey. Their first match in South Africa is on 3rd July. Now with the vaccine not being fully protective for two to three weeks then they are cutting it very fine.

On a lighter note about these players, lots of schoolchildren greeted them as they arrived at their hotel the other day and when asked what he thought, one small boy said "They are BIG!".

Ugh - that's crazy. My area is now at .9% positive cases for the last 7 days and fewer than 10 cases a day. We also have one area nearby that is no longer considered pandemic spread. Most people are no longer wearing masks - but we also have most of our adult population fully vaccinated.

Ren - I wish you were here with us in the US! You could have been done by now. I wish more people would get vaccinated who are able to - they're begging people to do so. Hopefully other countries can ramp up their production and we can send some of the surplus to ones who cannot.

Thanks LadyM! It seems that the main reason they are refusing the vaccine here, although there is plenty available, is the origin of the supply! I am past caring where the damn stuff comes from , am getting vaccinated early July, its even on the noticeboard.

Vaccines are being offered to all aged 21+ in the UK now and there have been long queues of people taking them up.

Looking back at your posts, ren, I'm wondering if you have to cook a meal for the person who vaccinates you!
