And I have no idea where you get the idea that the only Beatles song with any staying power is Yesterday? Anytime I hear any Beatles song, I change the channel! The only one of their songs I'll even remotely listen to is Let It Be.

Do we have anything good for July 18 at this time? 7/18/1955 was the opening day of the original Disneyland (yes, the 18th, even though Disney now celebrate on the 17th).
The Disneyland category is #2565.
And while we're on my favorite topic, Coasters and Theme Parks (#233) would fit June 26 - the Coney Island Cyclone opened on that date in 1927. At the moment, we are not evaluating whether suggestions are "better" than the current allocations, just gathering in new ideas from the FT community. Then the game of trying to replace appropriately will come into play. At the moment, Coasters and Theme Parks is on 16 August, which is officially (somewhere, according to someone) Roller Coaster Day. It could certainly be moved to another date, if a suitable replacement for 16 August came into play. June 26, however, is also the anniversary of the UK release of the first Harry Potter book.

Also if I get a vote, I vote no on John Lennon's death on Dec. 8th. Sorry, boomers, but he's just not that important. It's been 40 years, let it go.
Feb. 6th - Ronald Reagan's birthday; eight quizzes on him (cat. #13738). Uhm...wasn't Reagan first elected 40 years ago? And his birthday was over 100 years ago. By your logic he's just not that important. Besides, Feb 6 is Babe Ruth's birthday and an argument can be made that Babe Ruth was more important to a lot of people than Ronald Reagan. (After all, when told that he was asking for a salary increase and was told that was more than the president was making, he replied that he had a better year than the president.) Babe Ruth is category 9607. Babe Ruth is currently featured on 11 July, the anniversary of his major league debut. Could, of course, move to his birthday, but it's also sort of nice to use a variety of milestones for people, not just birth and death. It adds to the trivia component of the activity. (My opinion, not necessarily shared by everyone.)

A century ago, no one would have called Gustav Mahler classical.
Mozart, at his time, was as much of a pop musician as was possible in the 18th century.
By 2070 or 2100, I am pretty sure that John Lennon will be listed under some sort of "classical" header. Exactly this...in 50 or 100 years, we won't be around to tell the people what they should deem important. The Beatles might be the most important band in the world 100 years from now. Who is to say what will happen.

To each his own.

June 26, however, is also the anniversary of the UK release of the first Harry Potter book. June 26 is World Refrigeration Day ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Refrigeration_Day) so you could use cat=5502 Ice Cream which has 26 quizzes

We could probably use Ice Cream a dozen times - it is currently used on June 7 for National Chocolate Ice Cream Day, which I assume is an American "day". I like the lateral thinking of the changed date. So now that's two suggestions to replace poor old Harry Potter.

June 12 (1967) was the US Supreme Court ruling on Loving v Virginia which struck down all laws banning interracial marriage.
This was the basis of the June 26 (2015) US Supreme Court decision that laws restricting same sex marriage were also unconstitutional.
History--not sure what the category is for tolerance.
Thanks for the opportunity to give input.

There is usually at least one question in the Duel asking "When was Famous Person born?"

Babe Ruth is category 9607. You aren't following my logic if that's what you think. Musicians aren't important, major political figures are. Reagan will still be relevant 100 years from now, Lennon isn't even relevant now.
As for Marty Stauffer, my goal was recognition of Wild America as a significant nature program, not of Stauffer in particular, but I couldn't find the inaugural start date for the show, so I substituted Stauffer's birthday. For those unfamiliar with it, it was the first major TV program focused specifically on US wildlife and was one of PBS's most popular programs ever, running for 12 years. Stauffer himself was a "Grizzly Adams" kind of character, even raising a bear like Adams did.
I have no objection to a "Babe Ruth" day, but considering Reagan brought down the evil empire and freed approximately 500 million people from the bondage of communism, I don't think Babe Ruth was "more important" than Reagan.

As this is a site devoted to trivia, the relative importance of the people chosen for the Topic of the Day is hardly going to change the world or anyone's beliefs. I enjoy the quirkiness of some of the choices, particularly when I learn about a day devoted to something I've never heard of.
This thread is for players to make suggestions to add some variety to the game now it's been running for a while, not to criticise other people's choices.
Right now, I'd welcome as much frivolity as is available.

Now I love classical music myself. Used to listen to Mozart when I was reading or studying for something. That kind of music is the only kind that I can listen to and not lose my concentration. And I'm getting in to Debussy more lately.
I wish my piano were in tune. I would stream you some Debussy.

According to Wikipedia, December 15 is: Bill of Rights Day (US) - (Subcategory #10214 - Constitution of the USA) International Tea Day - (Subcategory #15887 - Tea) Zamenhof Day - (Subcategory #15136 - Esperanto) Then a couple of relevant birthdays: Nero - (Subcategory #8806 - Roman Emperors) Gustave Eiffel - (Subcategory #5860 - Skyscrapers and Towers)
