Zamenhof Day - (Subcategory #15136 - Esperanto)

Then a couple of relevant birthdays:

Nero - (Subcategory #8806 - Roman Emperors)
Gustave Eiffel - (Subcategory #5860 - Skyscrapers and Towers)

Some interesting options here. I am particularly inclined towards Zamenhof Day, since I learned something new from the suggestion. Even if the topic is pretty obscure, the blurb would be fun to write.

It is, but there are currently only 2 quizzes on Debussy. What category would you suggest we use on that date?

24 June is the final day of the Battle of Bannockburn. You could use Scottish History, category 21172.

Jack Benny's radio debut was on Mar 29, 1932. There aren't enough Jack Benny quizzes, but Old Time Radio would work, 17824.

Funny how today's Topic of the Day (May 7) is Beethoven when it's the birthday of two other major composers: Johannes Brahms and Piotr Tchaikovsky. Suggest that next year, make "Classical Music" the topic of the day and mention these facts in the description.

I think Classical Music is used at another point. Neither Brahms nor Tchaikovsky has enough quizzes on their own to be used. Perhaps the blurb can be reworded to acknowledge them, as is done on a couple of other days with multiple birthdays.

Topic of the Day always needs to use a single (complete) subcategory as its source - we can't mix and match or pick specific quizzes.

Those categories have now been sorted so that there is an Elephants subcategory, and either of them can be used.

It is helpful to get more than a single day's notice - August 12 is only a few hours away, so if the message hadn't been see, in time, there would have been a whole year's wait!

Sorry - I only realised late last night (UK time) and fully expected it to have to go on a list for another year. Thanks for doing it so quickly. :-) I'll have to go and play a duel now.
