Many people are stuck at home because of the worldwide virus, so we have put in place a couple of perks to hopefully make your stay at home even the tiniest bit more enjoyable.

This is what we are doing through April:

1. The Gold Member games "The World Quiz", "Obscurity", and "Gold Madness" are open to all players. Non Gold Members can play in these games and have something else to look forward to throughout the day.

Some but possibly not all challenges in these games (it depends how each badge was programmed) can be won.

2. Gold members get far more than just these games, and so we'd like to encourage players to become gold members! Since you're at home, now is the best time to fully dive into our world of fun trivia.

So for the first time in our 25 year history, we have slashed 25% off the price for 6 month Gold Membership GIFT CERTIFICATES through April:

https://www.funtrivia.com/gift/

For just $15 you can gain access to our huge variety of things that gold membership gives you, as explained here:

https://www.funtrivia.com/upgrade_features.cfm

You may purchase more than one of these gift certificates to gift to other people, but only one discount certificate may be applied to any single player.

*** This special applies only to gift certificates, which you can either apply to your own account or another player. We are leaving the "subscription" system as is due to the complications of changing prices in paypal subscriptions. Please buy and apply a gift certificate if you'd like a 6 month membership ***

I hope everyone is holding up well and making the best of a frustrating and unfortunate situation!

That is very great news Terry. Good thinking on the players all being at home with nothing to do.

Consider playing here stress relief. laugh

Guess there is no excuse for me not to at least get a 6 month membership. Perfect timing!

That two badges in one shot thing is really cool. cool

Thinking of the #7s on Obscurity? That was actually one of the inspirations for the upgrade system. Way back in 2014 or '15, I managed a perfect Obscurity game (15 in 120) and thought this should be a separate achievement given the chances to actually hit that one.

Combined with a few other games where I kept beating my scores, this gradually evolved into the idea of having not further and further badges (with levels soon skyrocketing into the quadruple digits) but rather a way to keep upgrading the ones you had.

My first draft was a rather clumsy 15-tier setup with 4 each bronze, silver and gold levels and then 3 crowns, effectively workable only for the achievement badges. This gradually evolved into the system we have today smile

Of course one day, I'd still like to see a special recognition for an inverted GC championship - winning a Hardcore GC with a score higher than the top normal player. THAT is a rare one smile

Blaster, you can buy a gift certificate, and apply it to your own membership. I also think it's a good thing for the overall health of FT, if there are more Gold Members. It benefits all of us smile

No, I was talking about playing Obscurity for the very first time and getting the Obscure Knowledge and Achievement: Obscure for the same played game.

That HC one is crazy but doable for some of us. Not me...but there are some out there who can and have done that.

I can only speak for myself here. But I would hope that we all looked at things differently.

Ever hear of the exercise they do to demonstrate that an eye witness is not as reliable as one would think?

They did it with us in High School. The city police department had a cop dressed in street clothes run into the classroom, grab something off of the teachers desk and run back out.

Guess how many different answers we had for every question?

Hair color, some said brown some blonde. Nobody could agree on if they had facial hair. The type and color of his clothes were different from student to student...

What they took off of the desk.

So yeah, we all think about and even see things differently.

But that don't mean we have to disagree on everything either. laugh

You can purchase a "sale" gift certificate and then apply it when your current membership expires, even if that occurs later this year.

I'm guessing what blaster2014 means is that whereas Regular Members are getting access to a few things that are normally for Gold Members, it would be nice if Gold Members got something a little extra during these months that isn't available to Regular Members. I don't know what that might be, but it would be nice if that could happen.

I'm worried about what Terry may think up as an extra for Gold members. He is the one that thought up the
"El Dorado" mini badge.

The catch here is that the only thing GMs don't have on the site in terms of access is editorial/mod access. Developing something completely new for GMs takes a fair bit more time-- those who have been paying for years and years have already been getting first access to new games, enhanced options, and bonuses and will continue to do so.

Not to mention current GMs can also take advantage of the low price; it's available for everyone.

I thought there was someplace that stated when Gold Membership expires, but I can't find it. I looked in Gold Member Central and also on the Buy/Renew link from the menu.

gracious... on your profile page, to the far right of 'Scores and Ranks', click 'Edit My Profile'. There, you can see when your membership expires.

Bubbles's avatar is hosted by Photobucket, who has all but restricted access to third party sites. That's why Captain (to the left - my wife's green cheek conure) is hosted elsewhere.

Another coronavirus perk: Image quiz authoring is now open to all players, at least for the next couple of months.

Please keep in mind that images used must be YOURS, or you must have explicit permission from their source to use them in a quiz.

Hmmmm, very interesting to somebody like me who just started writing questions and happens to be a chronic photo taker.

What to do...what to do? laugh

Terry, I like the link to the 'Education Page' on the home page, but I don't see it listed in any of the drop-downs at the top of the page?

While you are moving things around, can you add a copy of the "Help/Contact Us" button somewhere at the top or middle of the page?

I'm a nosy busybody that looks at a page from top to bottom, but some people might not make it down far enough to see the link for that. smile
