LONDON (Reuters) - A book of condolence set up in memory of murdered 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman has been stolen from a cathedral.
The book, filled with thousands of messages of sympathy, was taken from Birmingham cathedral on Saturday afternoon, staff said.
"This mindless theft is a terrible insult both to the people of Birmingham and to the families to whom it was going to be sent," Gordon Mursell, dean of the cathedral, said.
Staff said they saw a man acting strangely near the altar set aside for five books of condolence, and shortly afterwards discovered one was missing.
What sort of low life would do something like this

I for one cannot see the point of stealing such an item, a sick individual.
On the other hand what sort of person has been visiting Soham? We are hearing tales of people eating fish and chips in the churchyard, posing their children in front of the photos of the dead girls so they all appear in a photo together - very sad people, not at all nice.
It is time for people to let the parents and the people of Soham get on with their lives.

You are so right Sue. It really saddens me when people go to these places just to say they were there
I have heard rumours that reps from Man Utd may be attending the funeral when it eventually takes place, but David Beckham has said he does not think it a good idea for him to attend because it would attract people who would be there to see him and not for the solemn occasion. A lot of people call Beckham stupid, but I think he has made a really sensible decision.

It is a sad, sad world we live in. It is almost as though some people thrive on the misfortune of others. Maybe they feel they are meaning well in some cases, but they go about it the wrong way and end up making things worse for the ones who are hurting. Then again, some people are just mean, and want a moment in the spotlight at the same time, so they will do whatever it takes to get themselves noticed.
