I have done the crossword "Nightmare's Baseball #4" and it didn’t show as completed, so I changed to the easy option. I now have all the squares shown as correct, in blue letters, no red letters showing. The puzzle still won’t leave the screen and show as complete.

This has happened several times before, and I have tried to re-enter letters, delete and then replace letters, and nothing happens. I have to remove the puzzle from the screen and start all over again, which is a colossal loss of time.

Is this happening to anyone else?

I've just played that particular crossword, and as soon as I finished was whisked away, as expected.

That's on a desktop PC. Because someone who might know how to fix your problem is going to ask, what device are you using?

This is on my iPad. I have done thousands of other crosswords on my iPad with no problem, and half a dozen times this has happened.

Barbara, this has happened to me on my iPad. I it doesn't correct itself after I put in the letters a second time, I give up.

What I find most annoying is when I finish a puzzle without using the Easy mode and it won't register as complete. Then I do as you have done, I switch to Easy to look for errors. I remove a few correct letters and ... Whoosh! It registers as complete in the Easy mode. I usually don't even have to enter the deleted letters again. I don't want Easy wins when I haven't done the puzzle that way!

I'm having this problem now on my desktop. Three or four wouldn't register, even after clicking from hard to easy and back. I'm working on the third purple flag epic so it's very frustrating.

This happens to me fairly often. Today I played a CW, Hard mode of course, but it wouldn't "finish".

I tried retyping every character, using alternate spellings (e.g., gray vs grey). Eventually, not wanting to go "Easy", I screenshot the page, reloaded the CW and re-entered the answers and I was whisked away.

Because of this type of experience, I virtually gave up doing CW a while ago, but recent activities by my team to create CWs got me to retry.

I've learned issues like this can often be attributed to cookie-confusion. I usually open multiple tabs looking up answers, and maybe I even opened an additional FT page or two in order to do an hourly or even to look at a 2nd CW.

I'm going to keep this in mind when doing CWs.

Does anyone know if there is anything in common with these incidents? It is hard to fix because Im not sure what the problem is and cannot duplicate it. Is it only happening in one specific browser type?

Any chance to add an explicit "check" button? This error seems to be quite inconsistent, sometimes I was able to get a puzzle to submit by changing a letter back and forth. I suppose this is normally triggered on an OnChange event of some sort, so if event triggering is not consistent, it would not always catch a correct solution.

I am myself getting it very infrequently by the way - happened just two or three times.

Good idea... Ok, I just hacked in a "Completion Check" button which may or may not work wink I'd love to hear what happens if someone gets stuck and presses that button. I hope it triggers completion........

Has anyone used the "check crossword complete" button yet to force a completion?

I did, and it told me I had an error smile It was right, one square was not filled in.

I accidentally hit the button on my iPad. I was told I had an incorrect entry. Since my fat fingers were trying for the backspace key to fix the incorrect letter, the new system worked perfectly for me.

There's one minor issue that's related to crosswords. This seemed like a good thread to request a fix. If I've inadvertently put this message in the wrong place, please forgive me and point me in the right direction.

Whenever I go to an author's page and look at a listing of the crosswords they've written, the title is repeated twice. I'd really appreciate seeing the title followed by the description, as it is when you look at a listing of quizzes.

Possibly this just needs a small fix to put the description field into the listing of crosswords.

Thanks for any help on this.

I have used it. But it turned out, the reason it didn't auto-complete was because I got something wrong. I've never had to use it to force completion when everything was filled in correctly. (I always use a home computer running Windows or Mac OS X, never a phone or tablet, if that matters).
